Team Chevy Takes Three of Top Five in Qualifying

LOUDON, NH – (September 25, 2015) – Kevin Harvick ran a fast lap of 27.631 seconds, 137.845 mph in his No. 4 Ditech Chevrolet SS around the 1.58-mile oval, to earn the runner-up starting position for Sunday’s Sylvania 300 NASCAR Sprint Cup (NSCS) race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS).  It marks the 20th top-10 start of the 2015 season for the defending NSCS champion, and his 12thin 30 races at the track known as the ‘Magic Mile’.

Harvick’s Stewart-Haas Racing teammate, Kurt Busch, was the third quickest in today’s three-round knock-out-style qualifying format in his No. 41 Haas Automation Chevy SS. It will be his 17th top-10 start at NHMS and 14th in 25 races thus far this year. Jimmie Johnson qualified his No. 48 Lowe’s Pro Services Chevrolet SS in fifth place, giving Team Chevy three of the top five in the starting grid.

Carl Edwards (Toyota) was the pole winner and Brad Keselowski (Ford) was fourth to round out the top five.

In this, the second of 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, there are nine Team Chevy drivers in contention for the eventual championship title.  They qualified as follows:

 

2nd: Kevin Harvick, No. 4 Ditech Chevrolet SS

3rd: Kurt Busch, No. 41 Haas Automation Chevy SS

5th: Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Pro Services Chevy SS

9th: Ryan Newman, No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS

10th: Jeff Gordon, No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevy SS

11th: Dale Earnhardt Jr., No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS

20th: Paul Menard, No. 27 Sylvania/Menards Chevy SS

21st: Martin Truex Jr., No. 78 Furniture Row/Visser Precision Chevy SS

27th: Jamie McMurray, No. 1 FLIR Chevrolet SS

 

The 300-lap/317.4-mile Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday September 27. Live coverage will be available on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), PRN, Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and NASCAR.com.
