LOUDON, N.H. (Sept. 27, 2015) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, improved 17 positions throughout the course of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon to earn a 16th-place finish.
“This was a pretty good run for the AdvoCare Ford,” said Bayne after the race. “We were really able to make gains during each run and were able to get our car to handle pretty well. I’m happy it was a solid finish and we’ll look to gain on this going into next weekend in Dover.”
Bayne took the green flag for the 300-lap event from the 33rd position and steadily began to move forward, improving up to the 25th position in the early portion of the race. Bayne maintained his track position until a Lap 43 caution gave crew chief Bob Osborne the opportunity to call the AdvoCare Ford to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment to rectify a loose handling condition on entry and a tight handling condition through the center of the corner.
Osborne then utilized a quick caution on Lap 59 to make a strategy call to keep Bayne on the race track for track position. The call worked as Bayne took the ensuing restart from the 20th position. However, as the green flag run wore on the fresher tires prevailed and Bayne was shuffled back to 27th.
Once given the opportunity to hit pit road again for fresh tires during a Lap 119 caution, the Knoxville, Tenn. native again began to work his way forward, joining the top-20 on Lap 165. Bayne would maneuver his way up to as high as 18th before coming to pit road again under the Lap 191 caution period.
The Roush Fenway Racing driver returned to the track in 21st and maintained his top-20 track position until a caution on Lap 210 allowed the AdvoCare team to once again use strategy to gain track position as Bayne stayed on the race track as some of the race leaders came to pit road.
Taking the Lap 214 restart from seventh, Bayne raced for position with several cars that had pitted for fresh tires, which ultimately led to Bayne getting shuffled back to 15th.
In the closing stages, Bayne raced with Roush Fenway teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for position in the top 15 before crossing the finish line for the final time in the 16th position.
Next up for the NSCS is Dover International Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 4.
