ADVANCE NOTES
Reed at Homestead Miami Speedway
Reed has competed at Homestead Miami Speedway (HMS) twice in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In 2013, Reed finished 13th after starting 19th. In 2014, Reed finished 27th after starting 11th and suffering a flat tire in the closing laps of the race while running in the top 10.
Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassador Brigid McDonald will ‘ride’ along with Reed during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at HMS. The Hollywood, Fla. native will have her name featured on a decal above the passenger-side door on the No. 16 Ford Mustang. McDonald was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of six. The now 16-year-old high school junior has remained active in athletics and awareness since her diagnosis. The dancer, gymnast and cheerleader aspires to become a diabetes educator and work with children who have been diagnosed. She also helps raise awareness through her participation and fundraising in the yearly local American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®.
On the crew
Reed’s No. 16 pit crew members will feature names of the Lilly Diabetes My Diabetes Pit Crew Sweepstakes winners on the back of their firesuits this weekend. To emphasize the importance of a support system in diabetes management, Lilly Diabetes and Reed launched the My Diabetes Pit Crew Sweepstakes in July to encourage people with diabetes to acknowledge the people who have supported them throughout their diabetes journey.
Winners were chosen at random to be honorary members of Reed’s pit crew during the three NASCAR XFINITY Series races in November during American Diabetes Month. In addition to having their names displayed on the firesuits, winners also had the chance to submit a photo to appear on the team’s pit wall banner. This weekend, Jenn Shilale of Oxford, Mass.; Sara Falconer of Tucson, Ariz.; Larry Curtis of Westminster, Md.; Jeff Munden of Speedway, Ind.; and Katie Anderson of Sacramento, Calif. will be featured as honorary pit crew members for the No. 16 team.
American Diabetes Month
November is American Diabetes Association’s American Diabetes Month (ADM). ADM is part of an effort by the American Diabetes Association to spread awareness of the disease, featuring programs designed to focus the nation’s attention on the issues surrounding diabetes and the many people who are impacted by the disease. Reed, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011, will run an ADM decal on the C-post of his No. 16 Ford Mustang to help in spreading awareness throughout the month of November.
Phoenix Recap
Reed finished 23rd at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday after starting 20th and suffering a blown right-front tire halfway through the 200-lap event. The damage to the right-side of the No. 16 Ford Mustang was significant, forcing Reed to pit for repairs and putting him three laps down in the process.
2015 Season
Reed is currently 10th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and 17 top-15 finishes.
Reed on Homestead
“Homestead is one of my favorite race tracks and we have brought really good race cars here in the past. I really wish we raced here twice a year. The line we run here is so unique – you can’t get any closer to the wall and there’s a ton of room for passing. All drivers talk about how great this place is and I think we have the chance to rebound this weekend and close out the season strong. It’s been such an up-and-down year with the win at Daytona and then some bad luck since then. Hopefully we can turn that around this weekend as we support our teammate Chris Buescher in his fight for the Championship.”
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series regulars will take the green flag from HMS for the final race of the season on Saturday, November 21st at 2:45 p.m. ET on NBC and MRN.
