Roush Fenway Racing and Trevor Bayne Unveil Darlington Throwback Paint Scheme

Scheme Pays Tribute to Longtime Roush Fenway Racing Driver Mark Martin

CONCORD, N.C. (April 26, 2016) – Roush Fenway Racing and Trevor Bayne today unveiled the paint scheme the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion will run this September at Darlington Raceway for the second season of the track’s The Tradition Continues throwback celebration.

The No. 6 AdvoCare Ford will carry the same red, white and blue design as Mark Martin’s No. 6 Ford did during the 1996 and 1997 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) seasons.

“It’s an honor any time you are mentioned alongside Mark Martin,” said Bayne.  “He obviously contributed a lot to Roush Fenway and this organization, so to carry a paint scheme that he ran for the second year in a row is really cool.  Our team has been working really hard and running well this season, so I’m hopeful that we can make Mark proud.”

Last season Bayne paid homage to another successful Martin paint scheme, sporting the colors Martin donned in 1998, on his way to seven wins.

“It’s going to be really cool to see that car on the track again at Darlington,” said Martin. “It’s always been one of my favorite paint schemes and we had a lot of good times taking that car to victory lane and leading a lot of laps during that time. I look at it as a tribute to all the guys that put the hard work in on those cars and gave us the opportunity to go out and compete each week.”

Bayne and Jack Roush will ‘officially’ unveil the car on NASCAR America on NBC Sports Network tonight, April 26 at 5 p.m. ET.

In 47 starts at Darlington Raceway, Martin earned two wins (1993, 2009), 17 top-fives and 26 top-10s, while leading 801 laps.

So far this season through the first nine races, Bayne has two top-15 finishes, including his best finish of fifth two weekends ago at his home track of Bristol Motor Speedway.  This weekend, the NSCS travels to Talladega Superspeedway, a track that Martin won at in 1997, carrying this scheme.

In total, Martin scored four victories with this paint scheme, all of which came in 1997.  Martin scored his first victory of the season from the pole in Sonoma, leading all but five laps that day.

The following weekend, Martin worked his way up from an 18th-place starting position to lead 47 laps and capture the victory at Talladega.  Later that season, Martin pulled out dominating performances at Michigan International Speedway and Dover International Speedway, scoring two more victories that year.

Darlington Raceway’s award-winning throwback event celebrates the history and heritage of NASCAR racing at one of the sport’s most iconic tracks.  The campaign focuses on specific eras, plus the historic moments and drivers that made impacts at the track Too Tough to Tame. The Tradition Continues throwback celebration will take place on Labor Day weekend as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500® is set for Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, airing on NBC.
