BROOKLYN, Mich. – Garrett Smithley continued his recent streak of great races Saturday, finishing 17th on the lead lap in the Menards 250 Xfinity Series race at Michigan International Speedway.

Smithley has had top-20 finishes in four of the past six Xfinity events. Saturday he drove the Operating Engineers 324 Chevrolet for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller.

“This was one of the best weekends from practice all the way through the race,” Smithley said. “Michigan has been one of my favorites since I raced there last year in the truck, and this weekend did not disappoint. We were racing some really good cars and passing them.

“The whole JD Motorsports team has stepped it up this year, and we’re hoping to keep riding this momentum.”
It was a fine day all around for JD Motorsports. In addition to Smithley’s 17th-place run, Ross Chastain was 16th and Ryan Preece 19th.

Series point leader Daniel Suarez won the race.

The series moves on to Iowa Speedway for a June 19 race.
