ADVANCE NOTES
Reed at Iowa Speedway
Ryan Reed has competed at Iowa Speedway four times in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In this race last year, Reed finished 12th after starting 16th. Reed made his way into the top 10 in the closing laps, before an untimely caution left him with old tires on the final restart. In his last appearance at the track, he finished 19th after starting 21st.
Reed also has one start in the ARCA Racing Series at Iowa, which came in July 2012. Reed finished in the ninth position after starting third.
Riding with Ryan
American Diabetes Association® representative and diabetes advocate Peter Kiernan will ‘ride’ along with Roush Fenway Racing driver Ryan Reed during this weekend’s race. The Des Moines, Iowa resident will have his name featured on a decal above the passenger-side window of the No. 16 Ford Mustang.
Like Reed, Kiernan lives with diabetes and knows the importance of staying healthy to manage his diabetes. He was diagnosed 11 years ago and has a long family history of diabetes. His favorite way to manage his health is through cycling. Kiernan raises awareness and funds for the American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure® cycling event. He was recently appointed to the Central Iowa American Diabetes Association board to oversee the Central Iowa area, which is comprised of 35 counties, with focus on the Des Moines metro.
Reed in 2016
Reed is scored 10th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series Championship standings after 13 races. He has led eight laps for the season and has recorded an average finish of 17.9.
Michigan Recap
Reed and the No. 16 team finished 14th at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday after starting 11th and showing speed all weekend.
Reed on Iowa
“I always enjoy going to Iowa Speedway because it is one of the few short tracks we visit. Most of us grew up racing on short tracks so we feel more comfortable here and it really shows in the way we race. I’m excited to get on track on Friday to see what kind of speed we have and hopefully have a clean race to bring home a top 10.”
Tune-in
Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag from Iowa Speedway on Sunday, June 19th at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1 and MRN.
