ADVANCE NOTES

Bayne at Daytona

Trevor Bayne returns to the sight of his first career NASCAR victory and one of the biggest upset wins in sports history; Daytona International Speedway (DIS). Bayne scored one of the biggest upsets in professional sports history in the 2011 running of the Daytona 500. Running up front for virtually the entire race, the young driver held off the field in a feverish green-white-checkered finish to earn his place in the annals of NASCAR history. Bayne capped off a dominant Speedweeks effort by becoming the youngest winner in the history of the “Great American Race” at 20 years and one day old.

Bayne makes his 12th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at Daytona this weekend. In 11 previous starts at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, Bayne has recorded one win, one top-five and two top-10 finishes.

In nine starts in the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Daytona, Bayne earned one top-five and four top-10s, with a best finish of third in the Feb. 2014 event.

Bayne led 22 laps in the most recent restrictor-plate event in the NSCS at Talladega Superspeedway in May 2016.

In the combined 31 starts at restrictor-plate tracks in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and the NSCS, Bayne has recorded one win, two top-five finishes, nine top-10 finishes and has led for 94 laps.

Matt Puccia at Daytona

Puccia will call his 10th NSCS race at Daytona on Saturday night. In nine previous starts, Puccia recorded one top-five and four top-10 finishes as the crew chief for Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle.

Recapping Sonoma

Bayne recorded a 25th-place finish on Sunday afternoon at Sonoma Raceway after running inside the top 25 for much of the afternoon.

Chase Standings

Bayne trails the 16th and final position in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship standings by 24 points

QUOTE WORTHY

Bayne on racing at Daytona:

“Daytona will probably be wild like it normally is. We will be running three and four-wide for much of the night, but hopefully our AdvoCare Ford will be just as strong as it was in Talladega earlier this year and we can be up front when it counts. It would be really special to win the 400 here. This place means a lot to me and will always be special to me since our 500 win in 2011. I’m just ready to go.”
