Bayne Finishes 23rd in New Hampshire

LOUDON, N.H. (July 17, 2016) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, recorded a 23rd-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event on Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“This wasn’t the finish we were looking for,” said Bayne after the race. “We fought hard all race long but just got shuffled out there on that last restart. I’m proud of the effort my guys on this AdvoCare Ford gave this weekend and we’ll look ahead to Indy and see what we can do there.”

Bayne took the green flag for the 301-Lap event from the 31st position and immediately reported to crew chief Matt Puccia that the AdvoCare Ford was struggling to turn through the center of the corner. Puccia then utilized a Lap 35 competition caution to bring the Roush Fenway Racing driver to pit road for four tires and a chassis adjustment.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native took the ensuing restart from the 32nd position but steadily worked his way forward throughout the green flag run that followed, racing into 28th before the caution came out once again on Lap 101. When the race restarted Bayne maintained his track position despite reporting that the tight-handling condition persisted.

This handling condition ultimately cost Bayne a lap to the race leaders but an opportune caution on Lap 277 gave the driver of the AdvoCare Ford the free pass back onto the lead lap. Once back on the lead lap Bayne again moved forward, dodging several incidents and moving into the top 20 and up to the 18th position before the final caution of the afternoon came out on Lap 284.

In the closing stages, Bayne would fight hard for real estate on the track before taking the checkered flag in the 23rd position.

With the result, Bayne now trails the 16th and final position in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship grid by 14 points.

Next up for the NSCS is Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, July 24.
