TEAM CHEVY QUALIFYING NOTES AND QUOTES
OCTOBER 28, 2016

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 3rd
ON QUALIFYING:
“Yeah it’s such a tricky little place.  I just seemed to get better as the day went on kind of finding my rhythm.  I didn’t do much to the car it was really about me finding a half a tenth.  It was really the smallest of margins that made the difference.  That is the speed we ran in practice, which had us 11th or 13th or something and now it has us good enough for third.  Just a very difficult feel and everybody is so stinking tight.  So, glad that it worked out that is a great starting spot, great pit road pick.  Definitely doing things and headed in the right direction.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER/CLOROX CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 4th
ON QUALIFYING:
“Just a solid session.  The first session was a little bit crazy with all the cautions and red flags and trying to get out.  I didn’t get a really good feel of the car the first run just trying to get it in.  The second run we were kind of just a little bit off.  I was happy to get in to the last group because I didn’t feel like the lap was good enough.  The last run made the right adjustments and I thought I got everything I could out of it.  The good thing is I feel good that we can go fastest on our last run.  We did the same thing in practice.  Hopefully, that bodes well for the car in race trim as well.  We will keep working on it, but same deal, good starting spot here at Martinsville is critical.  We will go to work and see if we can make the car just as good as the first race.”

TONY STEWART, NO. 14 HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 6th
GOOD QUALIFYING RUN:
“Yeah, I would have liked to have been up there closer to where I was the first two rounds, but to just get in the final round and get in the top six here, we are pretty happy with that.  If that thing will run as good Sunday as it did today we’ve got a shot at this.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 32ND
WAS THE WHEEL HOP A PRODUCT OF THE HEAT OR BEING MORE AGGRESSIVE IN QUALIFYING TRIM?

“I don’t really know.  We had a really good car in practice and have been learning a lot and getting better.  I felt like this was going to be our day to finally make a third round here qualifying at Martinsville.  The second lap the car came in good, I was tracking where I needed to be to run a good lap and I got too much of it in (Turn) 1 and the brake pedal and it just wheel hopped.  Bummer for our Dow team, but hopefully we can get it all fixed.  It is a fast racecar.  We started from the back and finished fourth here earlier this year, so we will be alright.”
