DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Palm Coast, Fla. native Ray Black Jr. (@RayBlackJr) is poised to make his fourth career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) start in Saturday night’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway aboard Rick Ware Racing’s No. 51 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
The World Center of Racing is Black’s hometown track and expected to be surrounded by family and friends for his first Cup Series start of the year – Black is hoping for a solid performance at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
In 91 career NASCAR national series races, superspeedway racing has proved to best type of racing for the Floridan. Daytona is home to his career-best finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) with a fifth-place performance in 2015 and a career-best 12th place run in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last February.
On Saturday night, Black is hoping to record his career-best Cup Series result.
“I’m very thankful for this chance to compete in a Cup race at Daytona,” said Black. “This will be the biggest race of my NASCAR career and I can’t thank Rick Ware and our partners enough for their support. We just need to have a trouble-free night and hope when the checkered flag is near, we’re in position to have a solid result.”
