Weekend Rewind: Charlotte I – After coming off of a season-best finish at Iowa Speedway, Justin Allgaier and the No. 31 BRANDT team were hoping to continue their momentum with another solid finish. Even though the team battled temperatures in the 90s and a temperamental handling race car, Allgaier took the checkered flag in the eighth spot for his second top-10 finish in as many weeks. The finish was also enough to move Allgaier up one spot in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) point standings to sixth, 94 points behind the leader.
Allgaier at Dover International Speedway – Allgaier will make his seventh series start this weekend at the “Monster Mile”. In six previous attempts, he has notched three top-10 finishes, with an average start of 16.8 and average finish of 16.5. His track-best finish is a ninth-place effort which came back in 2010. In his last trip to Dover, Allgaier scored a 10th-place finish.
Hitting the Links to Support Autism Awareness – Before hitting the track on Friday morning, Allgaier will join Turner Motorsports crew chief Trent Owens at the 11th annual Drive for Autism Celebrity-Am Golf Outing at DuPont Country Club. Outfitted with a new set of Nike golf clubs, Allgaier is thrilled at the opportunity to support and raise awareness for a cause like Autism Awareness.
Playing in the Dirt – On Memorial Day, Allgaier headed home once more to Illinois to race his dirt modified car alongside fellow drivers Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader for NASCAR Night 1 at Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois. Allgaier is no stranger to the track having won his first ever feature event at Macon Speedway at the ripe old age of 12. After winning his heat race, Allgaier started the main fifth and finished sixth.
This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will pilot TMS-322 in the 5-hour Energy 200 at Dover International Speedway. This chassis last saw action at Darlington Raceway three weeks ago where Allgaier finished 13th after starting 10th.
Allgaier on returning to the ‘Monster Mile’:
“I’ve always kind of viewed Dover as a short track on steroids. It’s almost a bigger, faster Bristol, as the speeds we carry into the corners are so much greater. I’ve really been encouraged by our finishes over the last few weeks and I think our breakout performance is just around the corner. I’m hopeful we can make it happen this weekend. It would be awesome to hold up one of those cool trophies in victory lane with my team and the folks from BRANDT. I’m thrilled too to have the chance to join Trent [Owens, No. 30 crew chief] at the Drive for Autism Celebrity-Am event on Thursday before we get to the track. Autism is something that hits pretty close to home for Trent and I’m excited to help out in raising awareness and funds for this great cause.”
