David Starr Brings Experience, Enthusiasm to Daytona

MOORESVILLE, NC – February 14, 2011 – After several months away from the track, David Starr and the SS Green Light Racing team are set to kick off the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series 2011 season at the World Center of Speed; the Daytona International Speedway on Friday night.

The Texas native will make his 12th career start in the NCWTS at Daytona in the Zachry No. 81 Toyota Tundra. David’s best finish at Daytona came in 2008 with a fourth place, and is one of only three drivers, along with Dennis Setzer and Rick Crawford, who have run all of the eleven previous races at Daytona.

Starr is eager to return to Daytona and start the 2011 campaign. “I’m super excited to get the season started, and we are looking for a great finish to start the year. It’s going to be wonderful to get out to the track and see all the new teams and new drivers in the Truck Series.”

With crew chief Jason Miller, engineer Matt Faulkner and sponsor Zachry holdings, Inc., Starr is looking forward to the year with the full support of team owners Ken Smith and Bobby Dotter.

“I’ve got a lot of confidence to start the year with all the new and exciting things happening at SS Green Light Racing. Toyota brings so much to us with their support and engineering,” Starr said, “This week we’re looking for a good start and a great finish in our Toyota Tundra; my expectations are high.”

With Daytona recently being resurfaced Starr says the racing will be more exciting than ever.

“We’ve got to be smart with close side-by-side racing; Daytona can be a gamble. If we can avoid trouble, we’ll position ourselves to have a top-ten finish. I’m excited to see the new surface. The  racing will be more like Talladega without all the dips and bumps,” Starr said. “In order to compete for championships you need to finish good every race.

“With the new points system, we need to run good every week and the points will take care of themselves. NASCAR wouldn’t make the change unless they believed that it will make things better. It’s simple: Run good and let the points take care of themselves.”

Bobby Dotter, co-owner of SS Green Light Racing is ready to get the 2011 season started. “We are coming off our best year in the NCWTS and we’ve made significant changes in the offseason to better ourselves. Ken and I are very excited to have David and Zachry along with Toyota as partners for this season and we’re looking forward to a great start at Daytona.”

The NextEra Energy Resources 250 is the 246th consecutive NCWTS start for the SS Green Light Racing team and the 266th career start for Starr in the Truck Series.

Practice for the NextEra Energy Resources 250 will be Wednesday, February 16th from 4:40 to 8:00 p.m., with final practice Thursday, February 17th from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m. followed by qualifying at 6:05 p.m. The green flag will fly Friday, November 18th at 7:30 p.m..
