Hall-Of-Famer Junior Johnson Honorary Pace Car Driver For Goody’s 500

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 23, 2014) – One of the most successful and iconic drivers in the history of NASCAR will be back behind the wheel for Sunday’s Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 at Martinsville Speedway. And, as he was most of his career, he will be leading the pack.

Junior Johnson, a charter member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and winner of 50 Sprint Cup races, will be the honorary pace car driver for Sunday’s Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500.

“Junior Johnson is one of the true legends of our sport and we are thrilled to get him back out front here at Martinsville again,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “He helped make this sport what it is today and this hall-of-famer is still a most recognizable figure to our fans.”

Johnson recorded two wins and eight top-five finishes in just 19 starts at Martinsville Speedway. In a short career Johnson had 50 Sprint Cup wins and 121 top-five finishes. He retired suddenly in 1966 when he was just 35 years old and turned his efforts to fielding cars for other drivers. In 31 years as a car owner, he notched 139 wins and picked up six NASCAR Sprint Cup championships.

The Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 race weekend kicks off on Friday with the Virginia Lottery Pole Day.

Ticket prices for the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 begin at just $45.

Tickets to the Goody’s® Headache Relief Shot® 500 on Oct. 26, the Kroger 200 on Oct. 25 and the Virginia Lottery Pole Day on Oct. 24 can be purchased by calling 1.877.RACE.TIX. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.martinsvillespeedway.com.
