Armstrong Looks to Find Road Course Rhythm at Watkins Glen

Armstrong Will Pilot Ambrose’ Race Winning Chassis for 2nd Start at Track

Last week in Iowa, Armstrong avoided all the late wrecks in the caution heavy race and found himself five points closer to 11th place in the Point Standings. Currently, Armstrong sits 12th in the XFINITY Series Championship Point Standings, just 16 points outside of 11th place. Armstrong brings that momentum to Watkins Glen International (WGI) looking to gain valuable track time and improve on last year’s performance. The month of August features the season’s worth of road course races for the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

While Armstrong doesn’t have a strong road racing background, the No. 43 WinField team holds a secret weapon in crew chief Frankie Kerr, whose suspension expertise helped Marcos Ambrose drive to victory in the XFINITY Series at The Glen in 2009 and 2010. To help with the effort, the No. 43 WinField team has brought 2014 XFINITY race winning car driven by Ambrose back to WGI to give Armstrong the best chance possible.

Armstrong has one prior starts at Watkins Glen International in the XFINITY Series. As an organization, RPM has four starts at The Glen, with one win coming during the 2014 season by driver Marcos Ambrose.

“This place is the superspeedway of road courses. It’s fast all the way around. I really enjoyed racing here last year. I learned a lot and had a good car. I haven’t done much road racing at all, with the bulk of it when I was seven years old racing go carts. We’ll see what happens. I have to get into a rhythm and remember all the turn-in and braking points. Admittedly, I’m not very familiar with all the technical aspects of a fast setup for road courses. I’m still in the learning phase. Luckily, Frankie has a ton of success at this track, and I’m driving the car Marcos won with last year. We’ll be ok.”

No. 43 WinField Ford

With a history of over 200 wins and business partnerships with national and global leaders, today the race operation fields two teams in competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Aric Almirola pilots the famous No. 43 Ford Fusion with primary partners Smithfield Foods, U.S. Air Force, STP and Fresh From Florida, and Sam Hornish Jr. drives the No. 9 machine with primary partners Medallion Bank and Twisted Tea. In addition, Dakoda Armstrong wheels the No. 43 WinField Ford Mustang full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The team is headquartered in Mooresville, N.C.
