Recap: Joey Logano started 10th and finished seventh in the Coca-Cola Firecracker 250, a race which started on Friday night and finished Saturday afternoon after multiple rain delays. At the drop of the green flag on Friday night, Logano found little success moving forward in the No. 22 Discount Tire Mustang as most of the front runners remained in pace lap formation for the opening seven laps.
JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang (Finished 7th) TALK ABOUT YOUR RUN TODAY: “Yeah, it’s crazy out there, right? Elliott (Sadler) and the 48 did a great job pushing me all day. I was able to push the 3 a lot to get us some positions. The 9 hit me in the left-rear on the back straightaway and that just sent me through the infield. We were lucky the nose stayed on it. I thought I was going for a hell of a ride. The front-tire was coming off the ground when I went through the grass. I actually just scooped it up and made a couple of nice plows through the grass.”
The Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 has been postponed until Saturday at noon, after rain halted the NASCAR XFINITY Series event Friday night at Daytona International Speedway after 11 laps of the scheduled 100-lap distance.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. scored his 14th career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) pole by posting the fastest lap at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) in his No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS during qualifying for the Coke Zero 400 on Friday afternoon. The lap of 47.127 seconds and 190.973 mph gave Earnhardt his second career pole at DIS and first since 2013.
Furniture Row Racing’s Erik Jones qualified 17th and teammate Martin Truex, Jr. 25th for Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS – Pole Winner: ON WINNING THE POLE: "I have to give Hendrick Motorsports a lot of credit, particularly for me personally it has been the No. 24 (Chase Elliott) bunch. We've been kind of pushing each other over the last several years in qualifying at Talladega and Daytona. It's been a healthy competition. That's why we win poles and qualify so well at some of these race tracks is a healthy competition within the company. Greg and all the guys deserve all the credit for the car."
BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 2 Detroit Genuine Parts Ford Fusion (Qualified 3rd) “We didn’t have a lot of practice time and we we’re really concentrating on our race trim. We’ll be okay. It was a good track for us last year and hoping to make it a great track tomorrow night. We’ll be fast. We know the Fords are fast at these types of tracks. We’re at high rpm, restrictor plate, low drag tracks and I think it will be really important tomorrow night to make the most of that.
Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 2 Detroit Genuine Parts Ford Fusion, met with media members Friday prior to qualifying of the Monster Energy Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway.
