Though one of the questions beyond the speedway's progress was with regards to Gordon's announcement at the beginning of this season.

Kevin Harvick, aiming to extend his hot streak in the desert, roared to the Coors Light Pole Award in Friday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying at Phoenix International Raceway.

DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Freight Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing - How do you feel about the car here at Phoenix? "We just raced here not too many races ago – we had a decent run there. We actually had a bad run, but we finished well. It's a different package, different setup for us that we're trying."
