The long season, well it might have been just three months, of our winter discontent has come to a close. The engines are running, our hopes and dreams have been renewed, and NASCAR keeps trying its damndest to drive us to watching something else.

With all the rule changes, driver swaps, and format modifications, this has been one of the most hectic off-seasons in recent memory. But, a fresh season of NASCAR awaits as the Daytona 500 draws nearer. Plenty of questions are still buzzing around the head of many fans.

In what came as a shock to almost nobody, Austin Dillon drove his Earnhardt-Childress Racing powered No. 3 Chevrolet to the top of the leaderboard in qualifying. Dillon was very fast in both testing and practice for the Daytona 500, so him winning the pole was no surprise.

Greg Biffle and 3M look to continue their winning combination in 2014. 3M has been a Roush Fenway partner since 2005 and this 2014 season marks their seventh season as the primary sponsor of the No. 16 Ford Fusion.

Two championship contenders are scheduled to appear in Martinsville Speedway’s Party Plaza prior to the STP 500 on March 30. Kasey Kahne and Matt Kenseth are scheduled to be in the Party Plaza on the morning of the STP 500.

The search for speed continues for the Wood Brothers and the crew of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion. Trevor Bayne’s qualifying lap for the 2014 Daytona 500 of 194.334 miles per hour was just 26th fastest.

It didn’t take long for Martin Truex Jr. to make a statement as the new driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet SS.

For the second consecutive time, the Chevrolet SS race car earned front row starting positions for the upcoming 56th running of the Daytona 500, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season kickoff at Daytona International Speedway (DIS). In bringing back the iconic No. 3 to the sport, Austin Dillon won the pole with a lap of 45.914 seconds, 196.019 mph. It was the first pole in just two career starts at DIS for the 23 year-old Rookie of the Year contender.

Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) placed three Fords inside the top nine in Sunday afternoon’s Daytona 500 qualifying at Daytona International Speedway. Greg Biffle led the way for RFR, turning a lap of 45.961 seconds (195.818 mph) in his No. 16 3M Ford Fusion to post the third fastest qualifying time in the session.
