Before cars take to the track at Bristol Motor Speedway, race weekend kicks off with the 14th Annual Speedway Children’s Charities Golf Tournament presented by Baker’s Construction Services at Tri-Cities Golf Course on Aug. 20.

With only three races remaining before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series arrives in Atlanta for the AdvoCare 500 Labor Day weekend, the battle for the final two wild-card positions in the Chase for the Sprint Cup was turned upside down on Sunday with Jeff Gordon’s win at Pocono.

As reported yesterday, a long time member of our Pocono Raceway family, a spectator has passed away following a lightning strike. According to Monroe County Coroner Robert Allen the name of the deceased is 41 year old Moosic, Pennsylvania resident Brian Zimmerman. Additionally, nine other individuals were transferred to local hospitals as a result of two separate lightning strikes.

Menard tied for seventh in NASCAR's Loop Data Statistics category Closers, gaining five positions in the final 10 percent (16 laps) of the race. Menard tied for fourth in the category Green Flag Passes with 67 and ranked 10th in Quality Passes with 27 made while running in the top 15.

Victory Junction is hosting its Second Annual Camp Challenge Ride on September 8th to raise money to help chronically ill children attend camp. This cycling event will start and finish at Victory Junction, in Randleman, NC. Each bike rider will choose from one (1) of three (3) route options; 15, 30 and 62.5 mile. The registration fee is $50 with a $200 fundraising commitment.

Jeff Gordon took advantage of a multi-car accident and timely rainfall at Pocono Raceway to put his No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet in victory lane for the first time this season in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition.

Regan Smith posted his first top-10 finish of the season, claiming a ninth-place result in Sunday's rain-shortened Pennsylvania 400.

In a race delayed by rain at the start and then called later for severe thunderstorms, one driver weathered the storms to collect his first victory of the season.

Jeff Gordon was leading at the right time when the rain came back. Gordon was in front after a restart crash and won the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway. The race was called for rain at lap 98.
