In 1972 a British pop singer named Albert Hammond had a smash hit with his song "It Never Rains In Southern California." Of course it rains in So Cal. It just wasn't supposed to rain during the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.

Brian Vickers makes his second 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup start Sunday at Martinsville Speedway. He’ll drive Michael Waltrip Racing’s No. 55 RK Motors Toyota on the Virginia half-mile track. The 28-year-old Thomasville, N.C. native finished fifth in his first race of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 18. Vickers led 125 laps - nearly equaling the 135 laps he led in the last three seasons.

Five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races are in the books and approaching Martinsville Speedway Bobby Labonte will have a fifth different primary sponsor on his No. 47 Toyota Camry hood with BUSH’S® Beans.

Stewart won the Auto Club 400 in a race shortened by 71 laps due to rain. Stewart overtook Kyle Busch on lap 85 and held on until the weather forced the race’s first caution, and ultimately its cancellation.

A week ago there was a problem with Bristol and the uncharacteristic nature of racing. Now, the attention has been placed on the Auto Club Speedway after they played host to this past weekend’s Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series races.

Tony Stewart won it, his second of the season, which is pretty good for a guy who rarely wins before June. Jimmie Johnson was belching smoke and spilling oil after a line broke, but the caution came out at just the right time so he could finish 10th.

Sixty-five years after the first Jesse Jones wiener was served at Martinsville Speedway it has an official partner with the historic Virginia track.

After turning in a pair of top-six finishes in a rain-shortened event in southern California last weekend, Roush Fenway heads to Martinsville, Virginia for NASCAR Sprint Cup short-track racing.
