CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The awards banquet provided a temporary distraction from the uncertainty that Truck Series champion Brett Moffitt faces in 2019.

While we've long since left the days when death at the race track was all but a certainty, it's still a high possibility.

NASCAR, Race Team Alliance and 704Games announced today a collaboration that will create the first-ever NASCAR esports league on consoles, eNASCAR Heat Pro League. The newly formed esports league will feature up to 16 race teams and 32 drivers, each owned and operated by prominent NASCAR race teams. 

When Team Penske driver Joey Logano drove his No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion to victory in Homestead, Fla. on November 18, winning his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship, it was a big win for graduates of NASCAR Technical Institute, too. Logano's front-end mechanic and two members of his pit crew graduated from NASCAR Tech and have been working all season to help Team Penske get a checkered flag.

Legendary drivers Charles “Red” Farmer and NASCAR Cup series champion Jeff Gordon make up the National Motorsports Press Association's Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Each will be officially inducted during ceremonies scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 27 in Charlotte, N.C.

Today Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) announced a partnership with Monster Energy, for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) season. Monster Energy will be a primary sponsor on the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 to be driven by 2004 MENCS Champion Kurt Busch. Busch will compete in his 20th season in the MENCS during the 2019 campaign.

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, has been named 2018 National Motorsports Press Association Most Popular Driver presented by Hooters. The award is the first of his four-year Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series career.

Turn5, Inc. – the parent company of online auto parts retailers AmericanMuscle (AM), AmericanTrucks (AT), and ExtremeTerrain (XT) – has just announced their bi-annual college scholarship program winners. With their fall awards, the Philadelphia e-commerce business has chosen 5 students from higher education institutions around the U.S. as recipients of a selection of scholarships between $2,000 and $3,000 each.

NASCAR presented several season-ending awards on Wednesday afternoon at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas, during the annual NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards.
