A History of Winning at Martinsville

Petty race teams have been competing at the .526-mile Martinsville (Va.) Speedway since 1949, when Lee Petty finished second when track was a dirt oval. As the years went by, Lee, Richard Petty, Jimmy Hensley and John Andretti all collected wins at the historical track under the Petty name. A total of 20 grandfather clocks have been gathered along the way.

NASCAR Racing Schedule for Martinsville

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the Camping World Truck Series head to Martinsville Speedway this weekend as the Playoffs continue with the Round of 8 in each series. The Truck Series Texas Roadhouse 200 will air on FS1 Saturday afternoon and the Cup Series First Data 500 will be broadcast on NBCSN Sunday at 3 p.m.

Martinsville Preview: The third Round of the 2017 NASCAR Playoffs – the Round of 8 – begins this Sunday at Martinsville Speedway with 500 laps around Virginia half-mile. Denny has visited Victory Lane five times in 23 starts at the ‘Paperclip’, leading 1,387 laps along the way. He’s also finished within the top-three in his last five visits to the flat track, including a third-place finish at Martinsville during last year’s Playoffs run.  

CHEVY MENCS AT MARTINSVILLE TWO: Team Chevy Advance

Heading into the Round of 8 this weekend at Martinsville Speedway, Chevrolet still has two representatives in championship contention.  Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and nine-time Martinsville winner, Jimmie Johnson is the fifth seed as the 2017 season races toward a close.  Johnson has made the final round of the championship Playoffs only once since the knock-out style format was introduced in 2014.  The only time he made it – 2016 -  when he became a seven-time Cup Series champion.

Petree, who has held numerous roles in his 30-year stock car racing career, will be retained as an outside resource.
