Racing at Talladega Superspeedway has been called a wild card and a crap shoot but Erik Jones likes his and the No. 77 5-hour ENERGY Extra Strength Toyota team’s odds heading into Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Alabama 500.

State Senator Del Marsh (R) will serve as the Honorary Starter and wave the green flag to start competition for this Sunday’s Alabama 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) at Talladega Superspeedway.

Winning may not be all Dale Earnhardt Jr. does at Talladega Superspeedway, but the driver of the No. 88 Mountain Dew Chevrolet SS does have six wins on the 2.66-mile tri-oval, more than he has at any other track on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit.

“We definitely want to perform (at Talladega), but I will say that it’s going to be pretty awesome going to Talladega and say, ‘Oh what the heck, let’s go race,’ ” said Truex, who will drive the No. 78 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Toyota in the Alabama 500.

Richard Childress began his driving career at Talladega Superspeedway in 1969 and is in a tie for the most all-time car owner victories at the storied Alabama-based race track with 12 wins. Dale Earnhardt visited Victory Lane nine times, while Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer swept the 2010 events at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Bowyer added to the Welcome, N.C.-based organization's total by claiming RCR's 100th Cup Series win when NASCAR's senior series visited the facility in October 2011. In 169 starts, RCR also has four pole awards, 41 top-five, 68 top-10 finishes and has led 1,837 laps of competition.

Ryan Blaney, driver of the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion, participated in a test session today at Martinsville Speedway.  He came into the infield media center during the lunch break and spoke about his Playoff position.

The two-time XFINITY champion has eight career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) starts at Talladega with an average finishing position of 10.4 -- the best ranking out of all 2017 MENCS drivers.
