CONCORD, N.C. — The road to NASCAR is not for the faint of heart. It takes a rare combination of talent, perseverance and ingenuity with a little luck thrown in. Just ask Kaz Grala.

Brad Keselowski held off a fast closing Cole Custer to win Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY race at Charlotte. Keselowski took the lead from Daniel Hemric with 44 laps to go and held on for the victory despite three cautions and a red flag delay for rain with 28 laps to go. The win was Keselowski’s 38th career NXS victory and his fourth at Charlotte. He won the second time this season, becoming the first repeat winner in the series.

Despite starting at the tail end of the field, Ryan Reed raced his way from the back all the way to the top 10 Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Reed had a fast No. 16 Drive Down A1C Lilly Diabetes Ford but got loose and brushed the outside wall midway through the race resulting into a trip to the garage to repair a hole in the oil pan. Reed returned to the track to gain a few positions as the race concluded, ultimately crossing the finish line 29th.

Ty Majeski had a solid run going late in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte, but a series of misfortunes spoiled what looked to be a solid finish as he crossed the stripe 22nd.

Christopher Bell (third) was the highest-finishing Toyota driver in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

I’m really proud of everyone on the team, Brian here and the sponsors, Fitzgerald Gliders and Ford for the car that was well-prepared and in a spot to be able to execute a day like today, but I think it was definitely a perseverance day. It was brutally hot out there. The humidity was just killer. I don’t usually get that hot in a race car, but it was smoking out there. There were a couple times where I swear the inside of the car was burning from the water and the humidity, but that’s just part of the challenge of racing on days like this and glad to bring it home first, that’s for sure.”

CONCORD, N.C. — Keselowski held off Cole Custer to win Saturday’s Xfinity Series Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway to capture his 38th series victory and his fourth at Charlotte. Keselowski won in overtime after the yellow flag came out for debris with two laps remaining.

In 160 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Richard Childress Racing teams have earned eight points-paying victories (four wins with Dale Earnhardt, one with Jeff Burton, two with Kevin Harvick and one with Austin Dillon) and four All-Star race victories (three with Earnhardt and one with Harvick), giving RCR 12 total Cup Series checkered flags at the Concord, N.C.-based track. RCR boasts 23 top-five and 52 top-10 finishes at the 1.5-mile track. Childress, a former driver on NASCAR's senior circuit, contributed two of those top-10 finishes from 1978 to 1979. The Welcome, N.C. organization has led a combined 1,156 laps at the Charlotte facility.
