Chip Ganassi Racing driver Jamie McMurray posted a lap of 99.905 mph to grab his second Coors Light Pole Award of the season. It was also his second pole at the famed half-mile paperclip and his 11th career pole.
Brian Vickers took the Coors Light Pole Award for Sunday’s Geico 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway in what could be described as one of the weirdest qualifying sessions ever seen for a NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
This weekend Talladega Superspeedway hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series while the NASCAR Nationwide Series takes a break from competition. Talladega is the last race in the Contender Round as the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion continues.
Kevin Harvick took the lead on the final restart of the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway to grab the win and secure his spot in the next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. He led a race high 162 laps on the way to his third victory of the season.
Kyle Busch won the Bank of America 500 Coors Light Pole Award Thursday evening with a lap speed of 197.390 mph in 27.357 seconds. It is his third pole of the season and his second at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Chase contenders Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin will line up in second and third. Tony Stewart, the only non-Chase driver in the top five, will start in fourth and Ryan Newman rounds out the top five.
This weekend the action continues at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Nationwide Series Drive for the Cure 300 Friday evening and the Sprint Cup Series Bank of America 500 Saturday night. This is the second event of the three-race Contender Round for the Sprint Cup drivers as the top 12 battle for a win to guarantee their spot in the upcoming Eliminator Round.
Joey Logano claimed his first win at Kansas Speedway on Sunday in the Hollywood Casino 400. Logano started fourth and was in contention to win all day and was able to capture his second win in the chase and locked himself into the next round. The win was also important for the team, it takes the wild card Talladega Superspeedway out of the picture for Logano in two weeks.
Kevin Harvick took the pole for the Hollywood Casino 400 with a speed of 197.621 mph or 27.325 seconds It is his third pole in a row at Kansas Speedway. The pole was Harvicks eighth of the season and his 21st top ten start in 2014.
While his teammate Jimmie Johnson has traditionally dominated at the Dover Monster Mile, it was Jeff Gordon scoring his 92nd win, his fifth win at Dover, and his fourth win of the season. Gordon also punched his ticket to the next round in NASCAR’s Chase for the Championship.
