Notes of Interest

● Where We Stand: The New Jersey native heads to Darlington (S.C.) Raceway second in the driver standings with 438 points, 29 behind leader Kyle Larson. Three of the four Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) entries are currently inside the top-10 in the standings heading to the 13th points-paying race of the season, with Denny Hamlin fourth and Ty Gibbs eighth.

● Up Front: All four JGR Toyota Camry XSE drivers are among the leaders in total laps led this season. Larson’s 634 laps led tops the list for the Cup Series, followed by Hamlin (606), Truex (437) and Gibbs (201) in second, third and fourth, respectively. Bell is 10th on the list with 125 laps led.

● Party like it’s 2016: With Auto-Owners Insurance as primary sponsor at Darlington this weekend, Truex’s throwback paint scheme will take him back to his Southern 500 win at Darlington in 2016. The memorable Auto-Owners Insurance scheme saw Truex lead 28 laps en route to his first of two Southern 500 wins.

● Truex has two wins, four top-five finishes and 10 top-10s and has led a total of 914 laps in 23 career NASCAR Cup Series starts at Darlington. Truex’s average Darlington finish is 13.4.

● Truex notched his most recent Darlington win in May 2021, when he dominated the race and led 248 laps en route to his second victory at the 1.366-mile, egg-shaped oval.

● While he doesn’t like to play favorites, Truex certainly excels at tracks with worn-out surfaces, where driver skill is key to managing the tires and the racecar over the course of a long race. At four such tracks, Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, Homestead-Miami Speedway, and Darlington, Truex has six wins, 24 top-five finishes and 46 top-10s, and has led 2,209 laps.

● Looking for 35: Truex’s win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon last July was his most recent Cup Series win, the 34th of his career, tying him with 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch for 25th on the all-time Cup Series win list.

● Ahead at this Stage: Truex has accumulated 63 stage wins since the beginning of the stage era in 2017. He is the only driver with 10 or more stage sweeps, with his latest sweep coming at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn last August. Truex scored his second stage win of the season at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway two weekends ago, leading the field across the line at the end of Stage 1.

Martin Truex Jr., Driver of the No. 19 Auto-Owners Insurance Toyota Camry XSE

What kind of an afternoon is 400 miles at Darlington?

“It’s quite the challenge. I love going there. I’m still mad about the Southern 500 last year, leading late and having the engine issues, so a little bit of redemption, hopefully, this weekend. It’s been so good to us and we’ve only been able to win there twice. I feel like we should have won there seven or eight times over the years. You’ve got to race the racetrack, but somehow with these cars you’ve got to find a way to get track position, as well. It’s very difficult to do but I’m really looking forward to the challenge. I can’t thank our friends at Auto-Owners Insurance enough for being along with us yet again this weekend. It’s going to be a fun weekend, for sure.”

Does it take a driver a long time to get used to how to drive Darlington and get used to its nuances?

“I think it just suits some guys, and others it doesn’t. For me, I feel like it’s about how I like to drive my car and the feel I need for the long run. For as long as I remember, I don’t really know what I do differently than everyone else, and I don’t know if my team does, either, it’s just the way that it happens. Even with all the technology today, sometimes you just can’t pinpoint exactly what it is that makes us good there. You can see the SMT and see exactly what a driver is doing, but there’s more to connecting that feel and those inputs than you can imagine. It just suits me, and I really enjoy it. Looking forward to this weekend with our Auto-Owners Insurance Camry.”

Some drivers say they love Darlington and others say they just can’t get a grasp on it. Is it just tires, or much more, to be good at Darlington?

“It’s very unique, I love it. It’s really hard on tires and hard to get your car working good. For me, I’ve had a lot of really good runs there and have won a bunch of races and have been really strong in the last four years, so I really enjoy it. I had bad cars there years ago and I can see how that could be just miserable if you don’t have a good car. Fun track and a place I really like.”

How technical of a track is Darlington?

“It’s definitely really technical. It’s a track that is really fast but the two ends of the track are completely different, which makes the crew chiefs scratch their heads. It’s hard to get your car working right on both ends, so you have to compromise. It’s never going to be perfect. It’s never going to be comfortable, but you’ve got to figure out a way to be comfortable with it and that’s what I love about Darlington. You are on the ragged edge so much and the tires wear off the car so bad on the long run that you are just on ice. You are sliding and trying to keep the right rear from dragging against the wall and you are just sliding everywhere. I just think it’s so much fun. It’s been a great track for me, I think, just because I like it so much. Hoping we can have a great run there this weekend with our Auto-Owners Insurance Camry and pick up where we left off in the fall with having such a strong car.”

How important is qualifying these days with track position at such a premium?

“I think, these days, qualifying is important everywhere we go. The whole field is closer together than they’ve ever been. It makes passing more difficult and you definitely want to get a good pit stall, which is also important at a lot of the places we go. Track position is a big deal and, with this car so far, that seems to be magnified a bit more, as well. It’s all part of it, though, and you take what you have and make the best of it each week.”

Sprecher Back on Board for ARCA Menards Series Race at Milwaukee

TEMPERANCE, Mich. (May 7, 2024) – For the third consecutive year, Milwaukee-based Sprecher craft soda will be the entitlement sponsor of the ARCA Menards Series race at The Milwaukee Mile. The Sprecher 150 will run on the same day as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 175-mile race, giving race fans a total of 325 miles of door-to-door racing action with the purchase of one ticket.

The ARCA Menards Series’ history at The Mile dates back to 1958 when NASCAR Hall of Famer Fred Lorenzen won a combined race with the United States Auto Club stock car tour. The next six races at The Mile were combination races with USAC; Tony Bettenhausen won in July 1959, Rodger Ward won in August 1959, Lorenzen won again in September 1959, and Bettenhausen won for the second time in July 1960. After a 22-year hiatus, Dean Roper scored the victory in August 1982, and “The Dyer Flyer” Dave Weltmeyer earned the first of his 13 career ARCA Menards Series wins in August 1983.

After another 22-year hiatus, Frank Kimmel scored his 58th career ARCA Menards Series win in 2005. Phil Bozell won in 2006, with Kimmel earning his 71st career series victory in 2007. After a 14-year hiatus the series once again returned in combination with the ARCA Menards Series East; Ty Gibbs led every lap in 2021, the first of three consecutive wins at The Mile for Joe Gibbs Racing. Sammy Smith won in 2022, and 16-year-old William Sawalich won in 2023.

“We are pleased to have our friends at Sprecher back on board in their hometown as we extend our long and storied history at The Milwaukee Mile,” said ARCA president Ron Drager. “Milwaukee is one of the most challenging racetracks on the schedule, and the fans in attendance will get to see two great races on the same day with the ARCA Menards Series leading into the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.”

“Milwaukee is our hometown, so we’re thrilled to continue our relationship with the ARCA Menards Series and The Milwaukee Mile,” said Sharad Chadha, CEO of Sprecher. “We hope to see all of our friends and neighbors out at the racetrack in August!”

Why Do People Drive Without Insurance Coverage?

Driving without insurance coverage is an issue that carries significant consequences, yet it remains a common practice among motorists. The reasons behind this behavior are numerous and varied. Some drivers take this risk due to financial constraints, finding the cost of insurance premiums unaffordable or unjustifiably high relative to their income or perceived need. Others may underestimate the potential costs associated with vehicle accidents, not recognizing that the average number of car accidents per person over a lifetime can result ina considerable financial burden without the insurance safety net.

Additionally, a segment of the driving population might ignore insurance requirements out of invulnerability, believing that their driving skills diminish the likelihood of their involvement in accidents. This cognitive bias overlooks a critical aspect of road safety: the unpredictable nature of other road users’ actions and the myriad external factors that can lead to a collision. Some individuals may also willfully drive uninsured, disregarding the law, unmoved by the legal and personal ramifications of causing an accident while uninsured.

Understanding the motivations behind driving without coverage is important for developing targeted interventions and public policies to reduce the number of uninsured motorists. By addressing underlying factors such as cost, risk perception, and comprehension of the legal requirements, initiatives can be crafted to encourage adherence to insurance mandates, ultimately enhancing the safety and financial security of all road users.

Motivations for Driving Uninsured

Many individuals drive without insurance coverage due to various circumstances and calculations. This section explores the predominant reasons why some drivers opt to take the risk of being uninsured.

Financial Constraints

For many, the decision not to purchase auto insurance stems from financial limitations. Insurance premiums can be a significant expense, particularly for those in lower income brackets or experiencing temporary financial hardship. The cost of coverage often competes with other pressing financial responsibilities, leading some to drive uninsured.

  • Prioritization of Expenses: Individuals might prioritize immediate needs such as housing and groceries over auto insurance.
  • Insurance Premium Costs: High premiums, especially for those deemed high-risk drivers, can be prohibitively expensive for some individuals.

Perception of Risk versus Cost

Drivers’ personal assessment of the risk involved in driving uninsured versus the cost of insurance coverage can influence their behavior. A common factor is the misperception of invulnerability.

  • Risk Assessment: Some individuals believe they are less likely to be involved in accidents and thus view insurance as an unnecessary expense.
  • Statistical Reality: While an individual might feel immune, statistics indicate that the average number of car accidents per person is not negligible, making the risk of driving uninsured substantial.

Legal and Societal Frameworks

Legal penalties for driving uninsured vary widely and can affect an individual’s decision. Societal norms and enforcement also play a role in whether or not a driver chooses to maintain insurance coverage.

  • Legal Penalties: These may include fines, vehicle impoundment, or suspension of driving privileges, which can ironically worsen financial constraints.
  • Enforcement and Norms: In regions with less stringent enforcement or where uninsured driving is more socially accepted, individuals may be more inclined to drive without insurance.

Consequences of Driving Without Insurance

Driving without insurance involves a range of consequences that can affect the driver, accident victims, and the community. These consequences can be immediate and long-lasting, with legal, financial, and personal implications.

Legal and Financial Repercussions

When a driver is caught operating a vehicle without insurance, they can face:

  • Legal penalties: Depending on the jurisdiction, these often include fines, license suspension, and even jail time.
  • Financial consequences: Uninsured drivers are personally liable for damages they cause in an accident. This could mean paying out of pocket for property damage, medical bills, etc.

Impact on Accident Victims

Victims involved in an accident with an uninsured driver may struggle to receive compensation for:

  • Medical costs: Treatment expenses can be substantial, and without insurance, the responsibility falls to the uninsured driver or victims themselves.
  • Vehicle repairs: Damages to a car or property can entail costly repairs or replacement, adding financial strain to the victims.

Long-Term Effects on the Uninsured Driver

Being uninsured can have various long-term effects:

  • Insurance rates: Should the uninsured driver eventually purchase insurance, their past violation can lead to higher premiums.
  • Credit score: Large debts from accident damages can negatively affect a driver’s credit score, impacting future loans and mortgages.

Cadillac at Spa: Aiming to move up the grid

No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R returns to the familiar circuit of Spa-Francorchamps

DETROIT (May 7, 2024) – Cadillac Racing heads to the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season at the challenging, albeit familiar, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber, qualified fourth and placed fifth in the six-hour race last year in Cadillac Racing’s inaugural WEC season in the Hypercar class, and both drivers have competed with success multiple times at the historic venue in the heart of the Ardennes.

“It’s one of my favorite tracks in Europe and I’ve spent a lot of time there. Won one of my first big races in Europe there in Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup, so I really looking forward to going back there especially with this Cadillac,” Bamber said.

The team recently tested at the 7.004-kilometer (4.35-mile), 20-turn road course, which features the fearsome Eau Rouge – a corner of speed, elevation and a blind crest. Concurrently, the sister Cadillac V-Series.R cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class will race at Laguna Seca with its signature Corkscrew complex.

Bamber and Lynn drove to 10th place in the most recent WEC race at Imola, advancing two positions from the qualifying position of the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R. Lynn drove the initial stint with a damaged rear wing sustained at the green flag and had a setback because of a right-rear tire puncture from debris in his second stint that forced an unplanned pit stop. Bamber was challenged by mixed track conditions from intermittent rain over the final 2 hours, 23 minutes of the six-hour event.

The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, an important race unto itself on the WEC calendar, is also considered a tune-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Cadillac Racing will again have three Hypercar entries in France, including Bamber, Lynn and two-time INDYCAR champion Alex Palou in the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R.

Of note

Cadillac Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais teamed with Jean-Christophe Boullion to win the FIA Sportscar Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps in 2002. Bourdais also co-drove to victory in the 2010 Le Mans Series race with Simon Pagenaud and Pedro Lamy.

Cadillac Racing and the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R opened the season with Bamber, Lynn and Bourdais driving to a fourth-place finish in the 19-car Hypercar field March 2 at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. On March 27, the FIA issued a report that disqualified the Cadillac Racing entry because of a post-race technical inspection irregularity.

The TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is scheduled for 1 p.m. Central European Time / 7 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, May 11. MotorTrend, Max and the FIA WEC app will provide coverage of the race in the U.S. Velocity will telecast the race in Canada and FOX Sports 3 will provide coverage in Mexico. Radio Le Mans will have the flag-to-flag broadcast.

What they’re saying

Alex Lynn: “Spa is an amazing racetrack and so historic. The WEC races there always turn out to be dramatic. After Le Mans, it’s probably my favorite WEC event of the year just because it being the dress rehearsal for the big one. You really feel that tension in the year. The circuit itself is a glorious place. So much elevation change, fast-flowing corners. I’ve had a lot of success there in my career, so I’m really looking forward to going there. We tested there a few weeks ago, which was productive. Any test days you get around Spa are valuable. I’m looking forward to myself and Earl tackling this great race and certainly the next two races are going to be exciting.”

Earl Bamber: “Really looking forward to Spa. It’s one of my favorite tracks in Europe and I’ve spent a lot of time there. Won one of my first big races in Europe there in Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup, so I really looking forward to going back there especially with this Cadillac. I think we’re making strides as a team. We’lll have the true test at Spa this weekend. They say Spa is the closest representation with the downforce level ahead of Le Mans.”

DIY or Professional? Choosing the Right Approach for Seat Belt Replacement

Photo by Alexandria Gilliott on Unsplash

When it comes to ensuring the safety of yourself and your passengers on the road, seat belts play a crucial role. Over time, however, seat belts can wear out or become damaged, compromising their effectiveness in the event of a collision. In such cases, it becomes necessary to replace them promptly to maintain optimal safety standards. Whether you choose to replace seat belts as a DIY project or through a professional service, the priority remains the same: ensuring the highest standards of safety for you and your passengers. But the question arises: should you tackle this task yourself, or is it better left to the professionals? In this article, we’ll explore the pros and cons of both approaches to help you make an informed decision.

The DIY Approach

Advantages

One of the primary advantages of opting for the do-it-yourself (DIY) route is cost savings. Replacing seat belts at a professional auto repair shop can be expensive, as it typically involves labor charges in addition to the cost of the replacement parts. By doing the replacement yourself, you can significantly reduce the overall expenditure.

Furthermore, many car owners find DIY projects to be rewarding and empowering. Taking on the task of replacing seat belts allows them to gain a better understanding of their vehicle’s mechanics and provides a sense of accomplishment upon completion.

Challenges

However, DIY seat belt replacement is not without its challenges. Firstly, it requires a certain level of mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive systems. If you’re not comfortable working on your car or lack experience in this area, attempting to replace seat belts yourself could lead to mistakes or improper installation, compromising safety.

Additionally, sourcing the correct replacement parts can be tricky. Seat belts are designed to meet strict safety standards, and using aftermarket or incompatible parts may compromise their effectiveness. Ensuring that you have the right parts for your specific make and model of vehicle is essential for a successful DIY replacement.

Safety Considerations

Above all, safety should be the top priority when considering a DIY seat belt replacement. Improperly installed seat belts may fail to restrain occupants adequately during a collision, leading to serious injuries or fatalities. It’s crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines meticulously and double-check your work to ensure that the seat belts are installed correctly.

Professional Replacement

Expertise and Experience

One of the most significant advantages of opting for professional seat belt replacement is the expertise and experience that trained mechanics bring to the table. Auto repair professionals have the knowledge and skills to perform the replacement correctly the first time, minimizing the risk of errors or safety concerns.

Moreover, professional auto repair shops often have access to a wide range of genuine replacement parts, ensuring that your seat belts are replaced with components that meet the manufacturer’s specifications. This reduces the likelihood of compatibility issues and ensures optimal safety performance.

Convenience and Peace of Mind

For many car owners, the convenience of having seat belts replaced by professionals is a significant factor. Rather than spending time researching and sourcing replacement parts, as well as performing the installation yourself, you can simply take your vehicle to a reputable auto repair shop and have the work done efficiently and reliably.

Additionally, professional seat belt replacement provides peace of mind knowing that the task has been carried out by trained professionals who adhere to strict safety standards. This can be especially reassuring for those who are not confident in their own abilities to perform automotive repairs.

Cost Considerations

While professional seat belt replacement offers several advantages, it typically comes at a higher cost compared to the DIY approach. In addition to the price of the replacement parts, you’ll need to factor in labor charges, which can vary depending on the location and the specific auto repair shop.

However, for many car owners, the added expense is justified by the assurance of quality workmanship and the knowledge that their vehicle’s safety systems have been properly maintained.

Conclusion

When it comes to seat belt replacement, both the DIY and professional approaches have their merits and drawbacks. Ultimately, the decision depends on your level of mechanical expertise, comfort with automotive repairs, and budgetary considerations.

If you’re confident in your abilities and willing to invest the time and effort into researching and performing the replacement yourself, the DIY approach can be a cost-effective and rewarding option. However, it’s essential to prioritize safety and ensure that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the task correctly.

On the other hand, professional seat belt replacement offers the convenience, expertise, and peace of mind that come with entrusting the task to trained professionals. While it may involve higher costs, many car owners find the added expense to be worthwhile for the assurance of quality workmanship and optimal safety performance.

Ultimately, whether you choose to replace your seat belts yourself or seek professional assistance, the most important thing is to prioritize safety and ensure that your vehicle’s safety systems are functioning correctly to protect you and your passengers on the road.

The Challenge of RV Restoration

Over time, even the most well-maintained RVs can start to show signs of wear and tear. Meyer Shank Racing Launches Month of May With Sonsio Grand Prix

New look for Blomqvist as he heads into the weekend with No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM livery

Pataskala, Ohio (6 May 2024) – The most-anticipated month of every NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule gets underway this weekend, as Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) packs up and heads to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a month that starts with Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix (3:00pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 218) and culminates with the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda) leads the charge for the Ohio-based team as the veteran driver has made the most of his new surroundings after joining MSR for the 2024 campaign. The Swedish driver has led the squad to its first-ever INDYCAR pole and is the first driver in team history to start the year with three consecutive top-five qualifying results.

Rosenqvist has parlayed those starting spots into quality results as well and sits fifth in the championship standings after three races. He is one of five drivers to have finished in the top-10 in each of the year’s three races and is one of just four to have multiple top-five results this season.

INDYCAR rookie, Tom Blomqvist heads into the weekend with a new look on his No. 66 machine – sporting a dual partnership between AutoNation and SiriusXM (No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda). Blomqvist has improved his qualifying results through each of the year’s first three events, including a run at Barber Motorsports Park that saw him advance to the Fast 12 qualifying session for the first time in his young career.

Blomqvist heads into the IMS weekend with a sense of familiarity having tested at the Speedway as well as a venue he has raced at in IMSA competition in 2023.

Both MSR and Rosenqvist have had success on the Indy road course and will be looking to add to that record with strong results this weekend. MSR scored it’s first-ever INDYCAR SERIES podium at the IMS road course back in 2019 and followed that up with a second podium run in 2022 which saw Simon Pagenaud come from 20th on the starting grid to finish 2nd. MSR has also shown well in qualifying, earning four top-seven starting spots.

Rosenqvist has made 10 starts on the road course, and scored his first-ever INDYCAR pole position in 2019 along with a second pole in 2022. He has five top-10 results on the track and has finished on the lead lap on nine of the 10 starts.

Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix will air on NBC and Peacock starting at 3 p.m. ET. Friday’s qualifying will be shown live on Peacock beginning at 4:20 p.m. ET. SiriusXM will also host live IndyCar Radio coverage of both sessions on XM Ch. 218.

Meyer Shank Racing Driver Quotes:

Felix Rosenqvist: “I’m super excited to officially start the Month of May. Living here in Indy you can tell that people are ready to go. It’s a classic build up for the 500. I felt pretty good after Barber, which was our first road course, so although I don’t totally know what to expect this weekend, I think if Barber was any indicator we should be in good shape. We have some good momentum from the last few weeks, so we just need to keep that going. I like the Indy GP, I had my first ever pole there back in 2019 and it’s a good track for me in general.”

Tom Blomqvist: “The precursor to the big month! I’m enjoying not having much time between events and now we’re heading into May. It’s important to execute a solid weekend as it gets everyone in the right mindset heading into the 500. I’m excited for this event. It’s a track I know and have tested at in an INDYCAR. Looking to build on the performance in Barber and I’m confident we can have a solid weekend.”

JDX Racing’s Zach Vanier Takes First Porsche Carrera Cup Win at Miami Grand Prix to Lead Strong Team Effort

Vanier Scored a Win and Runner-Up, Joined by Teammate Alex Sedgwick on Sunday’s Podium; JDX Racing Led Every Lap During the Doubleheader

MIAMI (May 6, 2024) – JDX Racing drivers led every lap overall and in the Pro class of Porsche Carrera Cup North America during the Miami Grand Prix doubleheader, with Zach Vanier and Alex Sedgwick taking the top two steps on the podium in Sunday’s race.

It was the first career Porsche Carrera Cup win for Vanier, who swooped to the lead from third on the grid in the opening corner and then held out for the duration of the 40-minute race in the No. 9 Technica Mining/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Vanier had Sedgwick’s No. 98 PT Autosport/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on his tail and survived two additional restarts after the race was slowed for extended full-course caution periods. Sedgwick moved to the lead near the mid-point of the race, going around Vanier to take the lead, but gave the position back after exceeding track limits rather than face a penalty later.

At the finish, Vanier was just 0.282-second in front of his teammate. The win was Vanier’s first in Carrera Cup competition, and the second time in as many years that JDX Racing has boosted a pair of drivers to the podium at the Miami Grand Prix.

Sedgwick was one of those drivers on the podium a year ago, and started both races on pole this weekend. After leading every lap on Saturday and crossing the finish line first, he was given a 10-second time penalty for an improper move on the start. The penalty was contested by the team in the moment but ultimately upheld, dropping him to 15th in the official results.

He bounced back just as strong for Sunday’s race in front of the world crowd. Vanier’s move on the start dropped him to second, but he beat all but his teammate to earn his second podium in as many years at the temporary track.

Vanier crossed the stripe fourth during Saturday’s, but after all penalties were assessed came away with a second-place finish in that race as well. That was a best career finish before winning on the track on Sunday.

Those penalties elevated Elias De La Torre into the top five during Saturday’s race after he crossed the line seventh in the No. 4 HCB Yachts/iKon Boats/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. De La Torre started that race ninth on the grid and took advantage of his sixth-place start on Sunday to finish in the same spot.

Madeline Stewart’s No. 82 Spool Imports/Porsche Columbus Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine was collected in a significant opening lap incident on Sunday, an unfortunate ending after a solid Saturday showing. On Saturday, Stewart started 18th on the grid and worked her way to 13th in the Pro class, her best finish so far early in her first season of Carrera Cup competition.

In all, JDX Racing leaves the Miami Grand Prix with three trophies, including the first win of the season for the team, and four total top-five finishes spread out amongst three drivers. Unofficially, the strong weekend leaves Vanier third in the point standings, with Sedgwick fifth and De La Torre in seventh after four of the 14 races. JDX Racing leaves Miami third in the team championship.

The next round of the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship is once again with Formula One, this time north of the border at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, June 7-9. Like all races on the calendar, the Montreal rounds will be a doubleheader race weekend.

JDX Racing Quote Board

Jeremy Dale, JDX Team Principal: “This was a really great weekend for us as a team and was one tough call away from being an amazing weekend overall. Though a penalty wiped out Saturday’s win, we still led every lap of the weekend, Alex took both pole positions, and we leave here with three podiums including Sunday’s win. Everyone, including Madeline and Elias earned their best finishes of the season, and Zachary scored his first of what will be many career wins. The team, including both our crew and our partners at Byers Imports and Porsche Columbus, and our drivers have really come together and we saw that this weekend. We’ll carry that momentum to Montreal and through the season while we continue to rack up podiums and points.”

Alex Sedgwick, Driver, No. 98 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “This was a bittersweet weekend. I feel like this should have been two poles and two wins. We had the car and pace to do so, but a questionable call yesterday took a first win away after leading lights-to-flag. Sunday, I made an error at the start which allowed my teammate to get around me. We both had pace on the field, but I definitely felt I was able to get around him. We just had extremely limited racing time due to incidents. I had one shot and took it, and unfortunately ran wide and was forced to give back the position. It was a little frustrating but we know we have the potential and need to string it all together for the remaining six events this year. A huge shout out to JDX for the car and all of the ongoing work to have such a successful team weekend, and to PT Autosport for the support and our new partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and NJMP for coming on board.”

Zach Vanier, Driver, No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “I’m absolutely speechless about this one. Saturday felt like such a win in so many ways although it was only a second-place finish, so to come back Sunday and get my first win in Porsche Carrera Cup North America at the Miami Grand Prix F1 race is a feeling unlike anything else. I didn’t intend to go for the lead at the start, the intention was to slide into second and run away with Alex and sort things out at the end. The opportunity presented itself to ecome the race leader and I felt comfortable taking that opportunity which ultimately is what I believe won us the race today. I must say it was a well-executed day by everyone under the JDX Racing team but especially from Alex and myself to bring the team a one-two finish at such an awesome event. it was hard, but clean racing between teammates which I ultimately respect and appreciate. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but glad we were able to come away with the victory. it gives us a lot of confidence and momentum moving forward with the remainder of the season but especially going into my home race in a month’s time. I can’t thank the entire JDX Racing team enough for all their effort, my dad for all his support and my partners for making it happen. Now we just need to keep it rolling.”

Elias De La Torre, Driver, No. 4 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “The Miami Grand Prix weekend was a great experience with massive crowds and action-packed sessions. We ended my home race event with P5 and P6 finishes, our best weekend points haul in Carrera Cup. It was quite a dramatic weekend with most of the time under safety car conditions, but we learned a lot from the data we gathered throughout the sessions we had and will utilize that information to improve our pace another step at the next race.”

Madeline Stewart, Driver, No. 82 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “Miami was a very mixed bag for me, but it was a fantastic event to be a part of. It was my first time at a street circuit and I felt like I learned the track quite well in our two 30-minute practice sessions. The red flags in qualifying worked against me but the team did a great job to change tires quickly and get us out for a one-lap dash at the end of th esession. I had a really solid first race moving forward a couple of positions but unfortunately messed up at the start of the second race to end my race early. I’m looking forward to building on what I learned at Miami to have an even better weekend at Montreal. It was really great to see the team have so much success over the weekend, so I’m very proud of the whole JDX Racing team.”

Bayley Currey’s No. 41 AutoVentive/Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet to Honor Charles “Chuck” Efaw at Darlington Raceway

Salisbury, N.C. (May 6, 2024) – Bayley Currey’s No. 41 AutoVentive/Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet Silverado will honor Charles “Chuck” Efaw, the late father of Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw, this week at Darlington Raceway.

The No. 41 will sport a white, black, red, orange and yellow scheme reminiscent of the ZERO Dirt Late Model that Chuck raced at Lakeville Speedway and Wayne County Speedway, in the May 10 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event at Darlington.

This year’s throwback theme at Darlington Raceway is, ‘Celebrate our Roots through Grassroots Racing’, and will honor the racing origins of drivers, owners, team members, and NASCAR as a whole.

“When Jason [Wilson] with Precision suggested this scheme, I was honored,” said Cody Efaw. “My dad was my hero, and I definitely get my love of racing from him. Some of my best memories are in the shop and at the track with my dad. To be able to run this paint scheme at one of my favorite tracks on the circuit is extremely special to me. A huge thank you to everyone at AutoVentive and Precision Vehicle Logistics for the opportunity to honor my dad and his time behind the wheel of a race car.”

Chuck was born on June 19, 1950 in Fairmont, West Virginia and moved to Ohio as a child. He always had a passion for cars and enjoyed spending time at the race track.

After graduating high school, Chuck worked for Borg Warner, manufacturing hydraulic pumps and valves. He remained with the company after that location was acquired by Rexroth, putting in over 30 years.

It was not until after Chuck was married that he began his racing career. Chuck found victory lane at Wayne County Speedway and Lakeville Speedway on many occasions.

The scheme that the No. 41 honors won numerous times at both tracks in the mid ‘80s.

In addition to driving, Chuck spent many years working with John Mason’s race team, Mason Racing. Chuck worked on the crew at the track, installed engines, and even drove the team’s toterhome.

Chuck was forced to retire from racing due to the strain on his heart. He hung up his helmet in 1988, after his first open heart surgery for mechanical heart valves. He began racing again in 1994, but stopped again for good in 1996. Though not in the driver’s seat, Chuck remained a passionate race fan for the remainder of his life.

“Passion for this sport is created in many ways, and from the time I have known Cody and the entire Efaw family, the clear passion for racing has been evident,” said Jason Wilson, Vice President of Precision Vehicle Logistics. “That seed was planted, years ago by Charles, and had been passed on to Cody and his brother Chuck through the years. Both have applied that passion to the Niece Motorsports shop over the years, and along with Cody’s wife Amanda, and the team they have constructed alongside of them, Niece Motorsports is a better shop today because of them.

“Knowing how humble Cody and the Efaw family are, and the likelihood that Cody would never suggest this on his own for himself, Precision/AutoVentive wanted to take this opportunity to capitalize on the weekend theme of “grass roots” to recognize the Efaw family contribution to this sport. It’s our way of saying thank you to Niece Motorsports, the Efaw family, to include Cody’s mother Betty and sister Christy, and every Niece Motorsports team member, who have always treated our company, and our people like a part of the Niece Motorsports family.

“By default, Precision/AutoVentive will get to participate in this throwback weekend, and benefit from a great story of a grass roots racer, and how he shaped the lives and direction of a family who has found success in today’s NASCAR. We look forward to Bayley piloting the No. 41 Precision/AutoVentive Chevrolet with these colors at Darlington for the throwback weekend.”

Cody has overseen Niece Motorsports since 2016, now in its eighth full-time season. Since its first full-time season in 2017, Niece Motorsports has advanced to NASCAR’s version of the Playoffs four times, including the last three consecutive seasons.

The organization has advanced to the final round of the Playoffs on two separate occasions. In addition, Niece Motorsports drivers have earned eight victories and led over 1,300 laps.

“It’s cool to run a throwback that means so much to someone in our organization,” said Currey. “Chuck embodied grassroots racing and Cody has obviously followed in his dad’s footsteps. I love racing at Darlington and am looking forward to a strong run in this special scheme.”

Currey has two NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series start at the track nicknamed ‘Too Tough to Tame’, with his best finish of 12th coming in 2020. In addition, Currey has six NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the South Carolina track.

In his first full time season in the Truck Series, Currey has four top-15 finishes through the first eight races of the year.

The Buckle Up South Carolina 200 from Darlington Raceway will take the green flag on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET, airing live on FS1, The Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
