The NASCAR All-Star Race 12-Pack Of Memorable Moments

The 1989 NASCAR All-Star Race was a more painful one for Darrell Waltrip (17) than his win in 1985, but Rusty Wallace (27) had plenty of reason to celebrate after Waltrip went spinning and Wallace scored his first and only All-Star victory. (CMS Archives)

NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (May 9, 2024) – As NASCAR celebrates the milestone 40th running of its popular All-Star Race, one of the single biggest factors in the 39 previous editions of the prestigious event that showcases the best of the best in the NASCAR Cup Series with more than $1 million up for grabs has been surprises.

There has been a plethora of surprise winners, surprise finishes, surprising crashes and surprising moves on the track that truly left us all breathless. We were surprised when the favorite didn’t win just as much as we were surprised when a driver came roaring from the pack to take home the money.

As the 40th NASCAR All-Star Race takes center stage at legendary North Wilkesboro Speedway next weekend, May 17-19 (8 p.m., FS1, MRN Radio), fans can almost certainly expect more of the same. Before we crown the 40th winner of this amazing event that is part drama, part mayhem and part chaos, let’s take a look back at some of the most memorable finishes in All-Star Race history.

Because every one of the 39 previous All-Star Races have had incredible circumstances around their finishes, it’s a herculean task and nearly impossible to rank them in order of most-favorite to least-favorite. So below is a 12-pack of the most memorable All-Star Race finishes in chronological order.

2019, “Advance and Conquer”
Kyle Larson earned the first of his three All-Star Race victories while driving the No. 42 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing. The California native swept both races that night, the All-Star Open and the All-Star Race, becoming only the first Cup Series driver to win the NASCAR All-Star Race after also claiming the All-Star Open. He’s since added two more All-Star Race victories, at Texas Motor Speedway in 2021 and North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2023.

2009, “Smoke Got Him!”
Tony Stewart scored an emotional first win as a team owner/driver in the NASCAR Cup Series by taking the checkered flag in the thrilling 2009 All-Star Race. In a final 10-lap shootout, Stewart passed rivals Kyle Busch in third and second-place Matt Kenseth in dramatic fashion as TV analyst Larry McReynolds famously shouted “Smoke got him!” and he took the checkered flag and pocketed the $1 million payday. It was the former Cup and IndyCar champion’s first win since leaving Joe Gibbs Racing to become co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. He joined 1994 winner Geoff Bodine as the All-Star Race’s only driver-owner winners.

2008, “Crashing the Party”
Kasey Kahne thought his night was over after finishing a disappointing 15th at the controls of his Ray Evernham No. 9 Dodge in the All-Star Open in 2008 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. However, his legion of fans came to the rescue and awarded him a starting spot in the prestigious All-Star Race as the Fan Vote Winner. He started last in the All-Star Race, but after making adjustments to the car and coming up aces on a pit road gamble, sent him straight to Victory Lane as the surprise winner. In the strategic pit stop move, Kahne’s team elected to not change tires and it paid off. Runner-up Greg Biffle, who led the most laps and took two tires in the same stop, wasn’t able to get by the big red machine as the checkered flag waved.

2005, “Throwback Victory”
Mark Martin became the oldest All-Star winner in history at age 46 when he turned back the clock a bit to win a fan-favorite 2005 All-Star Race at Charlotte. Driving a throwback color scheme that honored the early 1990s on his No. 6 Ford gave Martin the mojo he needed to run up front and ultimately take the victory. Martin won the first segment, and then worked his way back to the front in the second segment after an inverted start. In the final segment he took advantage of a nine-car melee to move into contention. In the final 19 laps, Martin was able to bump past Elliott Sadler to take the lead. Martin pulled away once he got out front and Sadler finished second.

2002, “Another Rookie Winner”
Ryan Newman managed to have one of the best All-Star nights in history in 2002 as he won the All-Star Open and then started last in the 27-car All-Star field, but managed to hang on and win the $1 million first place prize. Ironically, to take the win he had to hold off the defending winner, Dale Earnhardt Jr. With the win Newman joined Earnhardt Jr. as the only rookies to have ever won the All-Star Race.

2000, “We came here to take all the money”
Dale Earnhardt Inc. teammate Steve Park had just won the All-Star Open and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was determined to do his part to make the evening a race-team affair to remember at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2000. The third-generation star kept the momentum going when he raced to the win in the All-Star Race to capture the $1 million payday. A late pit stop gave the driver of the red No. 8 Chevy all the momentum he needed to make a late-race pass on Dale Jarrett and capture the prestigious victory. He became the first rookie to win the All-Star Race and famously said in Victory Lane as he celebrated with his team owner and father, “We didn’t come here to run third, we came here to take all the money.”

1997, “T-Rex Roars”
Jeff Gordon drove his famed Jurassic Park movie-themed “T-Rex” No. 24 Chevy to a dominating victory in the 1997 NASCAR All-Star Race, winning all three stages. This victory was also controversial, as the “experimental” car was rumored to be illegal due to a questionable suspension setup that basically optimized the car for short-run speed. The car was reportedly signed off on by NASCAR officials prior to the All-Star Race and strutted its stuff throughout the night, putting on quite a show for the fans. Gordon took the lead with nine laps to go and cruised on to the victory. Later the next week NASCAR officials modified its rulebook and made sure that T-Rex was all but extinct.

1996, “Last to First”
Michael Waltrip hadn’t exactly followed in his big brother Darrell’s tire tracks in the NASCAR Cup Series. Through 11 seasons of racing, which was more than 300 starts, he had yet to win a major event or any points-paying race, much less cash a big payday. That all changed at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1996. Waltrip found a way to finish fifth, the last transfer spot, in the All-Star Open qualifying race and advanced into the big-money All-Star Race. Driving the famed No. 21 for the Wood Brothers out of Virginia, Waltrip found his stride under the bright lights of the All-Star Race. The tall, lanky driver found his way into contention and took advantage of contact late in the race between rivals Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Terry Labonte. Waltrip sped through the open gap to claim the lead with nine laps to go. From there he mashed the gas and left the pack behind and made history as the first driver to win the All-Star Race after transferring from the Open. He famously said to his critics who called it an exhibition win after the race, “I smell like champagne. I’ve got confetti on me and I just won one of the biggest races of the year with the Wood Brothers. I swear it feels a whole lot like a win to me.”

1992, “One Hot Night”
For the first time in All-Star Race history the race was held under bright stadium lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Davey Allison and Kyle Petty dueled for most of the night, proving they both had the top-contending cars, but the always present “Intimidator” Dale Earnhardt was lurking, and had worked his way into the lead with six laps to go. Petty reeled in Earnhardt and eventually Petty and Earnhardt tangled in turn three while battling for the lead on the final lap, and while the 3-car slid away from the action, Petty and Allison powered side-by-side toward the checkered flag. Sparks were flying as the two made contact at the finish and the crashing race cars sent Allison in one direction and Petty in another. Allison was declared the winner, but he didn’t make it to Victory Lane, unfortunately, as he was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated for a separated collarbone and other minor injuries. That race alone set the tone for the All-Star Race becoming must-watch NASCAR and the hottest ticket in town.

1989, “The Tide Slide”
Then young-gun Rusty Wallace stalked the decorated NASCAR champ Darrell Waltrip for nearly nine laps in the 1989 All-Star Race at Charlotte before making his winning move. The two drivers had the best cars of the night, as each had claimed an earlier segment win. In the final segment, Waltrip appeared to be on his way to victory in the late stages. With 10 laps to go, however, Wallace’s No. 27 Pontiac continued to creep closer to Waltrip’s bumper. With two laps remaining, Wallace got to Waltrip’s rear bumper in turns 3-4 as the white flag waved in the distance. The two cars eventually touched and Waltrip’s famed No. 17 orange Tide Chevy took a slide up the track. While Wallace drove to Victory Lane, the two race teams erupted in a huge fight on pit road. A dejected Waltrip famously said, “I hope he chokes on that $200,000.”

1987, “The Pass in the Grass”
One of the most-discussed All-Star Races in history, the 1987 victory by Dale Earnhardt Sr., still to this day receives more than its share of water-cooler chatter among race fans. At the time the race was famously tagged “The Pass in the Grass”, but as we all know there was no pass. It was a “Save in the Grass”. And a magic one at that. Earnhardt somehow managed to recover after Bill Elliott tagged his rear bumper and sent his blue and yellow No. 3 Chevy off the track onto the grass patch in the trioval of Charlotte Motor Speedway. A determined Earnhardt never lost stride or power and just manhandled the machine back on the track and never lost his position. It was a breath-taking moment and a spectacular save all in one. Earnhardt had been battling with his rival Elliott for most of the race and neither driver was giving an inch. Both were animated in post-race interviews. Said an angry Elliott: “Dale cut down on me and spun himself. Clearly, I was under him. If I’d meant to spin him, I would have spun him. I had the quickest car… he meant to take me out.” Earnhardt had a different view of the event. “(Elliott) came up there and tried to spin me out twice,” Earnhardt said. “I didn’t take it.”

1985, “Explosive Victory”
Darrell Waltrip won the inaugural NASCAR All-Star Race in thrilling fashion at Charlotte Motor Speedway and as soon as the checkered flag waved, controversy ensued. In fact, that one All-Star Race may be the most controversial of them all. Harry Gant led the most laps in the star-studded field of 12 drivers that featured the best of the best from the time period. Gant looked like he was on his way to an easy win but Waltrip had other plans. With two laps to go, Waltrip caught and passed Gant and took the victory. A few moments after the checkered flag waved, Waltrip’s No. 11 Junior-Johnson tuned Chevy erupted in white smoke. The win stood, and the controversy still lingers. Even today there are those who feel like that engine was illegal, but because it exploded just after the race was over there was nothing for NASCAR’s officials to inspect.

Notes of Interest:

Settled In: In February, Young’s Motorsports announced that Mason Massey will compete full-time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series this season aboard the team’s flagship, No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST, which will continue with Friday night’s Buckle Up South Carolina 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

Massey arrived at Young’s Motorsports after running a limited NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule last season for SS-GreenLight Racing, including a top-10 performance at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Douglasville, Ga. native started his 2023 Truck Series season with Reaume Brothers Racing and competed in seven races with a season-high 11th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway, but later shifted his presence to Xfinity for five races throughout the 33-race season.

About Mason: Massey has over 20 years of experience behind the wheel, launching his racing career at age five. Since then, he has garnered over 200 feature wins, 11 championships, and 10 track records across multiple series, including the U.S. Legends Pro National Championship.

Amongst the many Late Model victories to Massey’s credit during his tenure in the Bill Elliott Racing Development Program is the 2012 triumph in the Alabama 200. He eventually graduated to NASCAR in 2019, competing in the Truck Series before advancing to the Xfinity Series in 2020.

After part-time Xfinity stints in 2020 and 2021, respectively, the Georgian captured the attention of many with an impressive sixth-place finish in the spring 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series contest at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway in front of the hometown crowd.

With 40 more NASCAR starts to his resume since his first career NASCAR top-10 effort, Massey has landed with Young’s Motorsports, a longtime fixture in the Truck Series, hoping to impress and land the organization back in Victory Lane this season.

All-Aboard!: For the ninth of 23 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series races this season, Young’s Building Systems and Randco Industries Inc. return to serve as the co-primary marketing partners on the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado RST for the 147-lap race on Friday night.

Since 1981, Young’s Building Systems has been providing West Texas with all their metal building needs. Massey also finished 11th at Texas Motor Speedway after starting 27th in the 2023 edition of the SpeedyCash.com 250 for Reaume Brothers Racing.

Since 2019, he has carried an average finish of 24.5.

Kansas Speedway | Heartland of America 200 Race Recap: In the eighth race of the 2024 Truck Series season, Young’s Motorsports and Massey searched for another solid finish in the Midwest.

After encountering a mechanical issue late in practice, the Young’s Motorsports team forfeited their qualifying attempt to make the necessary repairs for the race. From his 33rd-place starting position, Massey blasted his way through the field and continuously made gains throughout the 134-lap to find himself contending for a top-20 finish.

Following his final pit stop under green flag conditions, Massey was able to maneuver some of the fastest laps on the track but unfortunately ran out of laps to surge inside the top 20 and settled for 21st at the checkered flag.

In 2024, Massey has delivered one top-15, three top-20s, and five top-21 finishes, highlighted by a career-best outing at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, where he steered the team’s flagship truck to an 11th-place finish.

Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ 15th NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts at the track dubbed “Too Tough To Tame.”

Primary Partner(s): Young’s Building Systems | Randco Industries Inc.

Manufacturer: Chevrolet Camaro

Crew Chief: Andrew Abbott

2024 Driver Points Position: 19th

2024 Owner Points Position: 22nd

Movin’ on Up!: In January, Young’s Motorsports announced it would graduate from the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series to the NASCAR Xfinity Series full-time in 2024 with rising star Leland Honeyman Jr. behind the wheel of the team’s No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro for the entire 33-race season continuing with Saturday afternoon’s Crown Royal Purple Bag Project 200 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

About Leland: The Phoenix, Ariz. native began honing his racing skills at the tender age of two racing Quads. By four years old, he moved into Trophy Karts and then collected three series championships in off-road racing Trophy Karts.

After an instrumental tenure in Go Karts, he moved into the Bandolero competition in 2015 and was crowned a Bandolero National Champion two years later. From there, he moved into Limited Late Models before graduating to the Carolina Pro Late Model Series division in 2021, where he earned championship-runner-up honors and picked up an astounding victory in the annual Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway Fall Brawl.

Honeyman, 19, returns to the Mooresville, N.C.-based organization, where he ran an impressive ARCA Menards Series East Series campaign, finishing third in the 2022 championship standings.

During the 2023 season, he made eight NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, highlighted by a 21st-place finish at the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Road Course.

Throwback Alert: Traditionally, the spring NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway has served as the official “NASCAR Throwback” weekend allowing teams to flaunt their favorite “throwback” paint scheme from all forms of Motorsports.

This year, Young’s Motorsports and Honeyman Jr. have chosen the famed “Mellow Yellow” paint scheme driven by Kyle Petty during the 1993 NASCAR Cup Series season for SABCO Racing.

Ironically, Petty, the son of seven-time Cup Series champion Richard Petty, boasted the popular neon green and red colors aboard the No. 42 Pontiac Grand Prix for the 30-race season, which included a win at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

Honeyman is in his rookie season aboard the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro for Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports.

All-Aboard!: For the 11th of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series races this season, Texas-based Young’s Building Systems and Randco will partner with the Mooresville, N.C.-based team as the primary partners on the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro for the 147-lap race on Saturday afternoon.

Since 2023, he has carried an average finish of 22.8.

Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway | BetRivers 200 Race Recap: In the 10th race of the 2024 Xfinity Series season, Young’s Motorsports and Honeyman searched for another solid finish at the Monster Mile.

After starting his No. 42 Young’s Building Systems | Randco Industries Inc. from the 28th position, Honeyman utilized patience and good adjustments from crew chief Andrew Abbott to make a steady climb through the field.

With his sights set on a top-20 finish, a chaotic restart in overtime kept Honeyman at bay, but the rookie Xfinity Series driver did capture a respectable 21st-place finish at the checkered flag.

Calling the Shots: Guiding Honeyman Jr. as crew chief of the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro is longtime crew chief Andrew Abbott.

On Saturday, he will be crew chief in his 108th NASCAR Xfinity Series race. In his previous 107 races, he has four top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

The season’s 11th race will be his sixth tango in the Palmetto State as crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series at Darlington Raceway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ first NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Darlington Raceway.

Nevertheless, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team has 14 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series starts at historical South Carolina race track.

The Ultimate Showdown: GMC Mid Size SUV vs Standard SUV

When choosing a new car, many people wonder about the differences between a mid size SUV vs standard SUV. Mid size SUVs are typically smaller, more fuel-efficient, and easier to drive in tight spaces compared to their larger standard SUV counterparts. Standard SUVs offer more space, and towing capacity, making them ideal for families and off-road adventures.

Despite these differences, there are many similarities between the two types of SUVs that should also be considered. In this guide, we will discuss the ultimate comparison between mid-size and standard SUVs to help you make a decision when purchasing your next vehicle.

Size and Maneuverability

When thinking about size and space evaluation, it helps to picture how a car fits in everyday situations. Mid-size SUVs are friendlier to city driving because they take up less room. This means they can fit into smaller parking spots and are easier to turn in tight corners.

Standard SUVs are bigger, giving you more space inside for things like sports gear and groceries. They’re great for big families or trips with lots of bags. But, their size can make them harder to drive in busy streets or small places.

Choosing between these depends on your needs for the room and how you plan to drive. If you like going on big adventures or have a large family, a standard SUV might be for you. But if you’re mostly driving in the city and need something easier to handle, a mid-size could be better.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency is a big deal when it comes to choosing a car. Mid-size SUVs usually use less gas than bigger standard SUVs, which means they can save you money at the gas station. This fuel efficiency contrast is something important to think about if you drive a lot.

Standard SUVs are larger and often have bigger engines, which is why they use more gas. But, they give you more power for pulling things or going on rough roads. If you need a car for big trips or carrying heavy stuff, this might matter more to you than saving on gas.

Mid-size SUVs are good for everyday use and are kinder to your wallet when it comes to fuel. They’re perfect for city driving and small families. Remember, the best choice depends on what you need from your car and how much you drive.

Performance and Towing Capacity

Performance in cars shows how fast and smooth they drive, especially when the road gets tough. Mid-size SUVs are quick and easy to drive, making them fun for trips in the city or the countryside. However, when it comes to pulling heavy things, like a trailer or a boat, they might not be as strong as you need.

A towing capacity assessment helps figure out how much weight your car can safely pull behind it. Standard SUVs are the champs in this area, with the power to tow bigger things without trouble. They’re built for pulling heavy loads, which makes them great for adventures that require carrying a lot of gear or even camping trailers.

Choosing the right SUV depends on how you plan to use it. If you need a car for daily driving with occasional light towing, a mid-size SUV should do the trick. But for those who expect to haul heavy loads regularly, a standard SUV with its superior towing capacity is the way to go. Always remember to check the towing capacity assessment to ensure your SUV fits your needs.

Passenger and Cargo Space

Passenger space is crucial when deciding between an SUV type. Mid-size SUVs typically seat five people comfortably, which is perfect for small families or groups of friends. On the other hand, standard SUVs can seat up to eight people, making them ideal for larger families or those who need extra seating for carpooling.

When it comes to cargo space, the difference is also significant. Mid-size SUVs have enough room for grocery shopping or a weekend trip’s luggage. However, standard SUVs offer much more space, allowing for larger loads such as camping equipment or big shopping hauls. This makes them more suitable for people who often carry a lot of items or travel with heavy gear.

Deciding on the right SUV depends on your specific needs. If you have a larger family or need more space for passengers, a standard SUV would be the better choice. If you prioritize fuel efficiency and only need enough room for light hauling, consider GMC Acadia, a mid-size SUV. It has a spacious interior with comfortable seating for five and an impressive fuel economy rating.

Safety Features

Safety features in SUVs have improved greatly, making them safer for everyone inside. Mid-size and standard SUVs often have airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. These features help protect you in a crash and keep the car steady on slippery roads.

Newer SUVs also have high-tech options like automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. These systems look at the road and can help stop the car if there’s danger or keep it from drifting out of its lane. Safety is important, so choosing an SUV with these advanced features is a good idea.

Mid-size and standard SUVs share similar safety features, making them both good choices. However, newer standard SUV models may have more advanced safety options due to their larger size and heavier weight. Researching and comparing different models is essential before making a final decision.

Make the Right Choice: Mid Size SUV vs Standard SUV

Choosing between a mid-size SUV and a standard SUV depends on your personal needs. If you want a vehicle that’s easy to handle and saves on gas, pick a mid-size SUV. But a standard SUV is better if you need more space for passengers and gear.

When deciding between a midsize SUV and a standard SUV, consider how you’ll use the car. Consider your daily drives, how much stuff you carry, and how often you go on big trips.

Negotiating with confidence

Armed with accurate appraisal reports, traders can negotiate with sellers. The report provides detailed insights. They are a powerful bargaining tool. They let traders justify their offer using data, not speculation. Traders negotiate with private sellers. They also engage in auctions and dealership transactions. Having a solid understanding of the vehicle’s true worth empowers traders. It helps them to secure good deals and maximize their profits.

Ensuring Transparency and Accountability

Transparency is key to success in car deals. This is especially true for used cars. Traders must focus on dealing with sellers. They must uphold high standards of transparency and accountability. This includes giving clear documentation. It also includes disclosing any known issues or defects. And, it includes helping with independent inspections if asked.

Traders can cut risk by fostering trust and open communication with sellers. This cuts the risk of unexpected challenges. They can also avoid disputes. Also, doing thorough due diligence. Verifying appraisal reports and vehicle history adds transparency. It reduces risks.

Conclusion

Chris Tasca Joins TPC Racing This Weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the Balance of the 2024 IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Season

Tasca Moves No. 37 Fly Alliance/TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 LB Cup Program to TPC Racing at One Year Anniversary of Racing Debut at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

MONTEREY, California (May 9, 2024) – TPC Racing is focused on celebrating debuting team driver Chris Tasca’s first anniversary in racing with a podium finish this weekend in the No. 37 Fly Alliance/TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 in Rounds 3 and 4 of the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Tasca and TPC have joined forces for the balance of the 2024 Super Trofeo season, and the new partnership begins on the same Laguna Seca road course where Tasca began racing a year ago.

Tasca drove in an auto race for the first time at WeatherTech Raceway last May, his first event in a full-season rookie campaign. He returned for this year’s season-opening Super Trofeo doubleheader in March at Sebring International Raceway where he scored a weekend-best fifth place finish in the LB Cup class.

Tasca now moves his Lamborghini LB Cup program to TPC for all but one of 2024’s five remaining doubleheader race weekends. He begins with his new team where his competition driving career began with his first race last year, which complements some major firsts TPC has accomplished in Lamborghini competition at Laguna Seca.

In May of 2022 on the picturesque Monterey circuit, TPC Racing won its first career Super Trofeo race in none other than the LB Cup class. The team has since added to its list of Super Trofeo career achievements with additional podium results and race wins, including a Pro-Am class victory in last year’s season-ending Super Trofeo North America race at the Lamborghini World Finals in Vallelunga in Italy.

Tasca has only been racing for a year but he comes from a legendary and fast family tree of racers. His cousin Bob Tasca III is a top competitor in NHRA Funny Car competition in the Motorcraft/Quicklane Nitro Ford Funny Car, carrying on a family tradition of drag racing that has had parallel success for decades with the family’s long-established dealership network, which is one of the biggest automotive groups in the country. Tasca III scored his 16th career Nitro Funny Car victory last month in the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas and earlier this year was the first drag racer to eclipse the 340 mph barrier with a staggering pass of 341.68 mph in Bradenton, Florida.

A three-day event weekend, the Super Trofeo schedule begins with a pair of practice sessions on Friday. Qualifying takes place Saturday at 11:05 a.m. PDT with the first 50-minute race scheduled to start that afternoon at 5:40 p.m. PDT. Sunday’s second and final race of the weekend goes green at 9:40 a.m. PDT. Both races stream live on NBC’s Peacock online network and IMSA.TV.

Harris Levitas, TPC Racing Director of Race Operations: “The TPC Racing Team is thrilled to welcome Chris Tasca to the program in the No. 37 Fly Alliance Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2. Chris is running in the LB Cup class, which is part of how the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series does such a great job of catering to every group and experience level there is. The series has classes to fit every type of driver, and we’ve won races in the LB Cup Class before. We have won at Laguna Seca before, and that is where Chris got his start in racing last season. The guys at the shop have worked extremely hard to prepare his car prior to this event, so we know that Chris is going in with a good Lamborghini under him. He’s got the confidence to get out there, work with his coach and start performing right away. At the Sebring opener, he was running with another team, but he still performed well with a result we can build on. Going into Laguna Seca, and going forward into the season, hopefully we can deliver some great results and put Chris where he needs to be in the championship standings.”

Chris Tasca, Driver, No. 37 Fly Alliance/TPC Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2:

“The support from TPC Racing, even before getting to the race track, has just been A plus-plus. I’m really excited to have the support from Harris and the entire crew at TPC, and I’m just as excited about the entry list. There’s more than 40 entries, and 12 or 13 in the LB Cup class. I’m really familiar with some of the drivers, and two of the top four guys from Sebring dropped out, so with that top-five finish I’m really looking forward to reaching my first podium this coming weekend. My focus is on being a true competitor out there this year, this being my second year in Super Trofeo. A year ago was my first race in Super Trofeo at Laguna Seca, my first true race as a competitor, my first time ever in a race car, so this is my one-year anniversary. I’m really looking forward to showing everybody that I’m not just here for brand positioning with my company Fly Alliance, which is a private jet charter company, but I’m also here to be a competitor. I still give my cousin Bobby a hard time. That side of the Tasca family is only good at going straight! I have been able to master the turns of a race track too!”

CHEVROLET RACES INTO THE MONTH OF MAY STARTING WITH THE SONSIO GRAND PRIX AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY ROAD COURSE

DETROIT (May 9, 2024) – Kicking off the prestigious month of May in Indianapolis, the Chevrolet teams and drivers next set their sights on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course for the Sonsio Grand Prix, May 10-11, 2024.

Racing to victory lane nine times since the road course was introduced in 2014, Chevrolet has also captured the NTT P1 Pole Award in eleven events, leading 629 laps and racing to 19 podium finishes on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course.

With a rich history on both courses at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Chevy looks to add to 113 victories in the 2.2-liter twin turbo direct injected V6 era since 2012, as well as 129 earned NTT P1 Pole Awards and 312 podium finishes.

Rinus VeeKay, driver of the No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, led 33 of 85 laps in 2021 on his way to capturing his first NTT INDYCAR SERIES career victory. Looking forward to this weekend’s race and the excitement over the prestigious month, VeeKay said, “It’s May! Back to the venue of my first win, this will be the third birthday of my first win! I’m very excited to head back to the road course. This race kicks off the Month of May so it’s always special, of course the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the home track to the team as well. We are ready to go for a great result after some bad luck recently. I think we can do really well at IMS the whole month and definitely start by being competitive in the Sonsio Grand Prix. It’s always nice to go to a track with that feeling. Hopefully we can start off the month with a win!”

The Sonsio Grand Prix from Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s Road Course in Speedway, Ind. kicks off with first practice Friday, May 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET, followed by second practice at 1:10 p.m. ET. Qualifying and the Firestone Fast Six also take place Friday, taking the green flag for the session at 4:20 p.m. ET. The 85-lap, 207.32-mile Sonsio Grand Prix broadcasts live starting at 3 p.m. ET on NBC. All practice sessions and qualifications will be live on Peacock, INDYCAR Radio, and SiriusXM Channel 160.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

Santino Ferrucci, No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“It’s always nice to start May off with a road course and to get settled staying in the coach over the GP weekend. It’s also nice that we have a Saturday race to free up our Sunday to relax and maybe play golf at Brickyard Crossing. I think from all the testing we learned more so when we came into Barber we knew we had a good package. Hopefully the same goes for the Indy GP since we tested at the IMS road course with the hybrid engine last month. There is definitely potential for (differing fuel strategies). I feel the Indy GP has been more of a tire race than fuel but it changes every year because the Firestone tires change.”

Sting Ray Robb, No. 41 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet:

“(Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course) is a great track for racing. There are a lot of passing zones. There are places where you have to think about momentum more than other tracks when making a pass, because the straightaways are so long. There are often times where you have to think multiple corners ahead to figure out where you can make a high percentage move without compromising the rest of the lap. It’s obviously a very different event (from the Indianapolis 500), but momentum weekend to weekend is a very real thing. The month of May I think could be a turning point for us. With some good results, rolling into the rest of the season and with that confidence as a more cohesive team could be crucially important.”

Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“We’re headed to the Indy Road Course this weekend for the only time this season. Even though we’ve raced here quite a bit over the last few years, I would say every year is different. It’s always kind of surprising seeing where people stack up; sometimes, it’s completely the opposite of what you expect. I’m looking forward to the challenges that we’ll have this weekend. We’ll try to roll out with the best package as a team and score some good points.”

Théo Pourchaire, No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“I’m looking forward to discovering another new track this weekend. However, I’m a bit more familiar with this track given its history, plus I’ve been able to have some time in the simulator to prepare. This is home for a lot of teams in the series, including Arrow McLaren, so I’m excited for my first ever race in Indianapolis. I’ll give it my all this weekend and hopefully we can bring home a good result.”

Théo Pourchaire on extending season with Arrow McLaren outside of the Indianapolis 500…

“The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has some of the best racing in motorsport, and now I can say that with experience. I’m excited to take on this challenge with Arrow McLaren for the rest of the season. This is a special opportunity, and I am committed to learning and improving as we get on track each race weekend. I’ve enjoyed my first two races with the team, and I know we have plenty of potential in front of us. Of course, I would like to thank Zak, Gavin and Tony, as well as the Sauber F1 Team, for making this all possible.”

Alexander Rossi, No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet:

“The Indy Grand Prix last year was very kind to us both times we races there, but we still had a bit of pace to find. I think that there is a really good opportunity for us to start the Month of May in a strong way this weekend, and we’ll be doing everything in our power to make that happen.”

Gavin Ward, Team Principal at Arrow McLaren:

The best month of the year is finally here, and there’s no better time for us to get back on the right track. We have so much exciting stuff going on this month, from celebrating the 50th anniversary of Johnny Rutherford’s 1974 Indy 500 win to Tony Kanaan getting inducted into the IMS Hall of Fame later, but it really all starts this weekend at the Indy Road Course. We’ve been fast here historically, especially last year when Pato and Alexander both landed on the podium. With Théo, we just keep continuing to build up and improve each time he gets in the car. I’m confident we’re going to have three cars fighting at the top this weekend, and I’m looking forward to starting the Month of May with a great result.”

Christian Rasmussen, No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“I am looking forward to getting the Month of May started! I feel good about the progression we as a team are making each weekend, as well as myself as a driver. Even though results haven’t been on our side, there have been plenty of positives from the first three race weekends. We will keep building on that and hopefully get a strong result in the first of our home races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!”

Rinus VeeKay, No. 21 Chevrolet at Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet:

“It’s May!

21 Team Throwing It Back to 1953 at Darlington

This weekend’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway is a time the NASCAR community honors its past with a variety of activities, topped by teams running special historical paint schemes on their race cars.

Harrison Burton and the No. 21 DEX Imaging team will be throwing it back to 1953 and running a paint scheme reminiscent of the 1939 Ford driven that year by the late team founder Glenn Wood and wrenched by his brother Leonard.

The No. 21 Mustang Dark Horse, like the ’39 Ford, will be called the “Leonard Wood Special.”

Crew chief Jeremy Bullins said he’s proud to be a part of the team’s recognition of a race car from their earliest days in the sport.

“Darlington is always one of my favorite weekends being such a historic venue and holding so much history in our sport,” he said. “It’s been an honor to race at Darlington with the 21 car over the years with some amazing throwback paint schemes recognizing the team’s storied past.

“This week is no different with our Leonard Wood Special scheme. It looks great and hopefully we can make it just as fast as Leonard Wood could back in the day!”

Leonard Wood, who will be at Darlington this weekend to see the Leonard Wood Special paint scheme on the track, said he’s humbled that the current leadership of the team honored him and his late brother Glenn with the paint scheme.

“It’s very rewarding,” he said. “To see my name on the roof and Glenn’s on the door touches my heart.”

Wood said those days racing Modified and Sportsman Fords with his brother were some of the best times of his life.

“Later on I got to set up cars for some of the world’s greatest race drivers, but I had more fun racing those Modifieds with my brother,” he said. “We learned a lot together and won a lot of races.”

Wood was just 17 years old back in 1953 when he was chief mechanic and engine builder.

He’d start with a 100-horsepower flathead V8 Ford engine and doubling or more its horsepower through boring the block, adding multiple carburetors and a magneto in addition to his other tuning tricks.

All told, he said, he and his brother won more than 80 Modified and Sportsman races during their careers.

That beat the alternative for young men from rural Virginia. “Glenn used to say that there had to be something better to do than hoeing corn,” Wood said.

Those early race cars prepared by Leonard Wood and driven by Glenn Wood were co-owned by Wood and his one-time sawmilling partner and long-time friend, the late Chris Williams.

Williams, like the Wood family, was from Stuart, Va., and the team raced mostly on dirt and asphalt tracks in Virginia and the Carolinas.

Wood eventually took full ownership of the race team in the late 1950s, but he and his family remained close to the Williams family. The two families share lots of history including a memorable trip to the races at Daytona Beach in 1951.

Both proposed to their girlfriends not long before the races. Both couples married, then let the annual trip to the beach races double as their honeymoon.

The current version of the Leonard Wood Special will see the track for the first time for practice on Saturday at 10:35 a.m. Eastern Time with qualifying at 11:20.

Sunday’s 400-mile, 293-lap race is scheduled to start just after 3 p.m. with TV coverage on FOX Sports 1, which also will carry Saturday’s activities.

Stage breaks are planned for Laps 90 and 185.

TeamSLR Ready for WWTR SpeedTour

Pro-Am Challenge Leader Barry Boes Joined by First-Time TA2 Competitor Jake Finch

As M1 Racecars Team Heads to Round Four on the Outskirts of St. Louis

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (May 9, 2024) – Barry Boes brings the Pro-Am Challenge lead and welcomes another high-profile Cube 3 Architecture TA2 Series newcomer to the TeamSLR M1 Racecars fold for Saturday’s fourth round of the 2024 season at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois.

Saturday’s 63-lap, 75-minute race marks just the second time since 1985 that the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli will race on the property that once was home to St. Louis International Raceway, just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis. It is now home to the 1.6-mile, eight-turn circuit that utilizes roughly two-thirds of the facility’s 1.25-mile, egg-shaped oval that plays host to the NASCAR Cup Series and NTT IndyCar Series. In the series’ return visit last September, now fulltime NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Thad Moffitt led the way for TeamSLR with a fifth-place finish resulting from a bold call to pit for four fresh tires during a late-race caution. Moffitt restarted 16th with 10 laps to go but charged forward to claim fifth by the time the checkered flag waved.

Boes, the sixth-year TA2 competitor from Ooltewah, Tennessee, and driver of the No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Racecars Ford Mustang, brings an 18-point lead in the Pro-Am Challenge championship-within-the-TA2-championship after the first three rounds of the season. He finished tops among his Pro-Am competitors at the opening two rounds at Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta before an opening-lap incident led to his early exit just six laps into the most recent round April 14 at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, Louisiana. Last September at WWTR, Boes was behind the wheel of a BC Race Cars entry that qualified and finished 16th.

Making his first career TA2 Series appearance this weekend will be 18-year-old Jake Finch of Lynn Haven, Florida. The son of longtime NASCAR team owner James Finch will take over the reins of the No. 17 Phoenix Construction/SLR-M1 Racecars entry as he looks to enhance his road-racing craft after finding success in stock cars on oval tracks in recent years. Since graduating to the hotly competitive ARCA Menards Series, Finch has competed in a dozen national series events, as well as seven in the East Series and two in the West Series. Last month, he dominated on the behemoth Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway oval, qualifying on the pole and leading all 76 race laps en route to his second career ARCA victory in a Venturini Motorsports Toyota. His first ARCA victory came in the April 2023 East Series race at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. At this year’s ARCA season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, Finch qualified third, led a race-high 65 of 84 laps, and was leading the final restart before getting turned into the outside wall on the penultimate lap. In the most recent ARCA event last Saturday at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Finch brought home a fifth-place finish after qualifying second.

Earlier this season, a pair of 16-year-olds – Gavan Boschele and Julian DaCosta – got their first tastes of TA2 racing in TeamSLR M1 Racecars equipment in the interests of developing their road-racing craft. Boschele drove the No. 28 SLR-M1 Racecars entry to finishes of 15th at Sebring, eighth at Road Atlanta and seventh at NOLA, while DaCosta’s TA2 debut resulted in a 10th-place finish from the ninth starting position at NOLA.

Riding along with this weekend’s TeamSLR drivers and their M1 Racecars, as it will all season long, is Nashville, Tennessee-based Franklin Road Apparel Company, which has been a longtime team supporter.

M1 Racecars was represented on the podium at 12 of the 13 TA2 rounds in 2023, highlighted by a pair of victories by two-time series champion Rafa Matos of Peterson Racing. Team SLR’s Dillon Machavern and Thad Moffitt both scored podium finishes, as did TeamSLR driver Connor Mosack at the season-opening event at Sebring, when he qualified on the pole and led the first 19 laps of the race before finishing third. At this year’s Sebring season opener, Austin Green of the two-car Peterson Racing contingent was the top-finishing M1 Racecars entry with his fifth-place result.

A pair of Friday-morning test sessions kick off this weekend’s on-track action at 8 and 10:25 a.m. CDT, followed by official practice 1:50 p.m. TA2 qualifying begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with race time set for 12:35 p.m. with series partner MAVTV providing live television coverage, augmented by live streaming video on the Trans Am and SpeedTour channels on YouTube. MAVTV will air a 60-minute race show at 8 p.m. EDT on Thursday, May 16.

Barry Boes, Driver, No. 27 Accio Data/SLR-M1 Racecars Ford Mustang:

You’re headed back to World Wide Technology Raceway for the second year in a row and your first visit with TeamSLR. What’s your outlook for the weekend?

“I’m just super excited because I know that the TeamSLR M1 Racecars do well when they run for a long time, and St. Louis is a place that really challenges cars to run well for a long time. I’m really excited that we’re going to have the longevity and the endurance that we’ll need because the cars don’t wear out the tires as much for whatever the reason, and it’s going to be a big deal there if you want to win the race. Last year, my car changed a lot during the race as the tires wore out, so I’m counting on having these M1 cars change a lot less.”

What are the key parts of the circuit when it comes to laying down a good lap there?

“You start out with a really big challenge when you come to turn one, which is very much like turn one at Homestead, where you’ve got to get your braking just right. The Carousel (turns six and seven) is a really important place to get right because the fastest line through there isn’t the racing line, but where the grip is, so in testing and practice you’ve got to find a really fast line or two that you can use for the race. Setting up for both the infield and the oval is another big challenge. It’s a relatively slow oval, you can’t keep it floored, you’ve got to feather it and feather it all the way through, so we’ll have to do some things to maximize our speed on the oval. We’re just going to work on a well-balanced car, we’re not going to play tricks with it.”

Despite your early incident at NOLA, you arrive at WWTR leading the Pro-Am Challenge after opening the season with your Pro-Am wins at Sebring and Road Atlanta. How do you feel about the progress you’ve made?

“I’m really excited about the Pro-Am championship. We won the first two races before we had the incident at NOLA, but we can throw away a few races, so I think we’re in good shape as we look toward the rest of the season. I always come in planning on finishing first in Pro-Am each weekend, and I feel like we’re getting closer and closer to getting on the overall podium. So far, so good.”

Jake Finch, Driver, No. 17 Phoenix Construction/SLR-M1 Racecars Entry:

What brings you to TeamSLR and M1 Racecars for your first taste of TA2 racing this weekend?

“I tested a couple of times with the team at Kershaw and VIR and now we get to run our first race together. I’m basically just trying to get better so on the road-course races in NASCAR I can be just that much better, that’s the plan. Dad (James Finch) has such great connections with a bunch of people in motorsports and he just told me this is what we were going to do. We like the Lagasses and I’m really glad to be able to end up here. They’re great people and have done a great job so far. They really get the finer points down and help you perfect what you need to perfect. It’s been a big learning tool for me and those guys have been nothing but great to me, so I’m just excited to get with them this weekend in a race format and go out there and compete the best we can”

What were your impressions of driving a TA2 car in testing?

“They’re pretty similar to Late Models, I’d say, just with a road-course feel. They’re pretty fun, and they’re pretty challenging, as well. I’m interested to see how they’re going to do over the course of a race. Just testing is a little bit different, but I’m excited to get after it to see how it’s going to be this weekend.”

What have you been doing to prepare for your first visit to the circuit?

“I’ve been working on the sim, running laps, trying to get better, trying to learn the line and the racecraft around that place. I’m just excited to get there and race and have been doing the normal stuff I do before every race. I think it’s great. With the Charlotte Roval being on our schedule, and most of our road courses being pretty similar, except for COTA and places like that, I would say it’ll be a big help. I’m excited to get to a track I would call a roval, and I’m excited to see how it goes.”

Is It Worth Hiring A Motorcycle Accident Lawyer in Marietta?

Photo by Gijs Coolen on Unsplash

Motorcycle accident cases can be complicated, involving legal matters and negotiation skills that are best handled by experienced lawyers. Without legal expertise, you may miss out on potential compensation or face pitfalls that could harm your case.

For instance, insurance companies often offer settlements that are insufficient to cover all your damages, including medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Hiring a lawyer also doesn’t mean going to court. In fact, a motorcycle accident lawyer in Marietta says many motorcycle accident cases are settled out of court through negotiation or mediation–saving you time and stress. In this article, we’ll focus on the benefits of hiring a motorcycle accident lawyer and how else they can assist you in this situation.

Benefits of Hiring a Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

Motorcycle accident cases can be complicated, with factors like determining liability, assessing damages, negotiating with insurance companies, and possibly going to trial. A skilled lawyer will handle all aspects of your case, from gathering evidence to representing you in court if necessary.

Motorcycle laws in Colorado are different from the laws in Georgia. Each state and jurisdiction has their own laws when it comes to driving a motorcycle. This is why you need to hire a motorcycle accident lawyer who has been practicing in your state for quite some time. They should know the local regulations as well as the statutes of limitations.

Once you hire the right lawyer, you will receive valuable guidance and support throughout the legal process, alleviating the stress and confusion that often accompany such situations.

Understanding Personal Injury Laws

Personal injury laws govern cases where individuals are harmed due to the negligence of another party. These laws cover a wide range of situations, including motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and more. The concept of comparative negligence is also important in Marietta’s personal injury cases. Georgia follows a modified comparative fault rule, meaning that if you’re found partially at fault for the accident, your compensation may be reduced based on your percentage of fault.

To handle these laws successfully, it’s a wise move to consult with a knowledgeable motorcycle accident lawyer in Marietta.

Maximizing Compensation for Your Injuries

Keeping detailed records of every medical bill, prescription, treatment, and therapy session will strengthen your case and help your motorcycle accident lawyer to accurately assess the full extent of your damages. Be sure to gather evidence such as photographs of your injuries, the accident scene, and any property damage as well.

When calculating your lost wages, include any missed work due to recovery time, medical appointments, or therapy sessions. Providing pay stubs, tax returns, or a letter from your employer can help substantiate these losses. Compensation may also cover future lost earning capacity if your injuries impact your ability to work long-term.

Handling Claims Effectively

To efficiently handle insurance claims after a motorcycle accident in Marietta, gather all relevant documentation and be prepared to negotiate with insurance companies.

When communicating with the insurance company, be honest and provide accurate information. Avoid admitting fault or downplaying your injuries, as this could affect the compensation you receive. Keep track of all correspondence and document any phone calls or emails with the insurer.

If you encounter difficulties during the claims process, don’t hesitate to seek guidance from a motorcycle accident lawyer in Marietta. They can handle the complexities of insurance claims on your behalf and work towards securing a fair settlement for your case.

Evaluating the Strength of Your Case

Assessing the viability of your motorcycle accident case requires a thorough examination of the available evidence and legal considerations. The extent of your injuries, the evidence at the accident scene, witness statements, police reports, and any communication with insurance companies will be looked at. Your lawyer will assess liability, the severity of damages, and the potential for compensation.

The strength of your case also hinges on how you follow traffic laws, your conduct at the accident scene, and whether you sought medical treatment quickly.

Documentation of medical records, expenses, and lost wages will affect the compensation you may receive. The timeliness of filing your claim and following legal procedures can also impact the outcome of your case. Consulting with a motorcycle accident lawyer will provide you with valuable guidance on the strength of your case and the best course of action to secure the compensation you deserve.

Conclusion

Hiring a motorcycle accident lawyer in Marietta can greatly benefit you, they can help maximize compensation for your injuries and evaluate the strength of your case. With their expertise and guidance, you have an assurance that your rights are protected and that you’ll receive the compensation you deserve.
