Kaulig Racing Weekly Advance | Martinsville Speedway

Xfinity 500

Martinsville Speedway
NASCAR Cup Series (NCS)
Sunday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. EDT on NBC

  • Kaulig Racing has made six NCS starts at Martinsville Speedway.
  • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Kaulig Racing has earned one win at the Bank of America ROVAL 400, five top five and 13 top-10 finishes.
  • After earning a race-high of 46 laps-led in the Bank of America ROVAL 400, the team has led a total of 88 laps in the 2023 season.

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Action Industries Camaro ZL1

  • AJ Allmendinger has made 24 NCS starts at Martinsville Speedway and has earned two top five, seven top-10 finished and has led 50 laps.
  • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Allmendinger has earned one win, four top five, seven top-10 finishes and has led 64 laps.

“Martinsville is completely different now with this car and how much we shift. Our short track program has been a bit of a struggle, but I felt like the first race there we at least made a lot of gains. I think we can go back there and have more speed than we have had in the past. I’ve always loved this race. It’s definitely different now but it’s just a fun racetrack to go to. Short tracks are our weak point, but we are getting better. I am really looking forward to getting to Martinsville and trying to build off of everything we have learned this year.” – AJ Allmendinger on Martinsville Speedway

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

  • Justin Haley has made five NCS starts at Martinsville Speedway.
  • So far in the 2023 NCS season, Haley has earned one top five and five top-10 finishes, with a best qualifying effort of third.
  • Haley’s best finish of the season came from his runner-up finish in the first-ever race at the Chicago Street Course where he led 23 laps, the most he has led in a single race.
  • After completing the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 and Alsco Uniforms 300, Haley now holds the record for the most NASCAR National Series miles completed in a single day by any driver in NASCAR history.

“Martinsville hasn’t been a good track for us in the past, but I’m hopeful that we have made good progress on our short-track program and can finish off the year strong.” – Justin Haley on Martinsville Speedway

Dead On Tools 250
Martinsville Speedway
NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS)
Saturday, October 28 at 3:30 p.m. EDT on USA

  • Kaulig Racing has made 18 NXS starts at Martinsville Speedway and has earned three top fives, nine top-10 finishes and led 99 laps.
  • So far in the 2023 NXS season, Kaulig Racing has earned four wins, six pole awards, 21 top fives, 49 top-10 finishes and led 631 laps.

Daniel Hemric, No. 10 Campers Inn RV Chevrolet Camaro

  • Daniel Hemric has made five NXS starts at Martinsville Speedway and has earned two top five and four top-10 finishes. He has also led 46 laps at Martinsville Speedway.
  • Hemric has earned six top five and 17 top-10 finishes so far in the 2023 season.
  • The No.10 car currently sits sixth in the Owner’s Championship.

“I have had Martinsville circled on the calendar since last spring. I really feel like we have taken a step in the right direction with our package for that particular racetrack. A racetrack that I would really call my weakest racetrack on the schedule for many years up until I finally had a good experience there and understood what I wanted to feel and need out of a race car. We still have a shot with the 10 car to get in the Owner’s Playoffs. Looking forward to going there and putting ourselves in contention. There is no better way to do that than to try to be the first guy to cross the line with the checkered flag. I really believe in this race team and what we can do at Martinsville.” – Daniel Hemric on Martinsville Speedway

Layne Riggs, No. 11 Infinity Communications Group Chevrolet Camaro

  • This weekend’s Dead on Tools 250 will mark Layne Rigg’s first NXS start at Martinsville Speedway.
  • In his previous two starts with Kaulig Racing, Riggs has earned one top-10 finish.

“It’s great to be back to a track that I am familiar with. With my short track experience and from what I’ve gained so far running the Xfinity car, I hope I can apply it all for Martinsville. Building off our solid finish in Vegas, I hope to bring the Infinity Communications Chevy home unscathed.” – Layne Riggs on Martinsville Speedway

Chandler Smith, No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro

  • Chandler Smith will make his second start at Martinsville Speedway in the NXS in the Dead On Tools 250 after finishing 10th in the spring race at the track earlier this year.
  • Smith currently sits 54 points below the cutline for the Championship 4. He has one win, eight top fives and 12 top-10 finishes in the NXS this season.

“I think we could’ve gotten a lot more speed out of the car the first time we raced at Martinsville this season. With now being in a must-win situation, we don’t have to focus on stage points anymore and can build out our strategy based on where we want to finish, which is freeing in a way. We’ve got things to prove, and I love short track racing.” – Chandler Smith on Martinsville Speedway

● Layout: .526-mile oval

● Stage Lengths: Stage 1: 130 laps / Stage 2: 130 laps / Final Stage: 240 laps

● TV/Radio: NBC / MRN / SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Notes of Interest

● With just two races remaining on the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, Chase Briscoe is looking to find his way back to victory lane where the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors team has been the strongest – the short tracks. The mission begins this weekend with the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, where Briscoe’s performance has been strong since the introduction of the NextGen car at the start of the 2022 season. A fourth-consecutive top-10 finish at the half-mile oval tucked in the hills of Ridgeway, Virginia, would add to the Stewart-Haas Racing driver’s momentum headed to the final race of the season at Phoenix Raceway, where the 28-year-old driver earned his first victory behind the wheel of the No. 14 Ford Mustang.

● Briscoe has earned three straight top-10 finishes at Martinsville dating back to the March 2022 race. He scored ninth-place results in both 2022 events, the second one in the October race, the third and final race of the Round of 8 of the Cup Series Playoffs in which he was eliminated from championship contention. This past April at Martinsville, Briscoe finished fifth in the first stage and second in the second stage, and led twice for a total of 109 laps en route to a fifth-place result.

● In the fall of 2020, when the NASCAR Xfinity Series returned to Martinsville after a 13-year hiatus, Briscoe drove to a seventh-place finish. The 27-year-old racer also owns two NASCAR Truck Series starts at Martinsville. His best result came in April 2017, when he started eighth and finished 11th. He returned that October to start on the pole and lead the first 39 laps before a late-race accident relegated him to a 19th-place finish.

Chase Briscoe, Driver of the No. 14 Mahindra Tractors Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

Since the introduction of the NextGen, you have never finished outside of the top-10 at Martinsville. Is that coincidence and good timing after a year of experience in the Cup Series, or is this car more suited to your driving style on a short track?

“I don’t know. I’ve always enjoyed going to Martinsville. I felt like I’ve always had speed there, I just didn’t really race that well. So, I don’t know if the NextGen just kind of fits me a little bit better there or if it’s the experience. Martinsville has definitely been a place where we’ve been really good every time we’ve been, we just haven’t been able to capitalize on how good we are. We’ve led quite a few laps there but just haven’t been able to put it all together. It’s a place we always look forward to going to because we are always so fast, so hopefully this time will be different.”

There are a lot of guys who grew up racing asphalt Late Models and who had a goal of racing on tracks like Martinsville. As a dirt racer, is a win at Martinsville as coveted to you as it would be to them?

“Martinsville is a very iconic track. The trophy is probably the one that everybody wants. So, from that standpoint, yeah, it definitely is. I feel like if you win at Martinsville, you’re respected as a really good short-track driver and, as a guy who didn’t do any of that growing up, it’d be cool for me to be able to win there. There is a list of guys who are just incredible short-track racers, and that’s not something that I grew up doing, so if I could add my name to that, it would be really cool.”

You didn’t do much Late Model racing growing up, but you did get behind the wheel of a pavement Late Model this year and won in just your second start. Have you learned anything from that limited amount of time on track?

“It’s a completely different kind of racing, but I do feel like I’ve learned some things as far as technique that could really help. The reason Denny Hamlin and William Byron are so good at short tracks is because they do have that foundation in Late Model racing. It definitely doesn’t hurt to get that experience.”

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 10.25.23

This Week in Motorsports: October 23 – 29, 2023

· NCS/NXS: Martinsville Speedway – October 28-29
· NHRA: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – October 27-29

PLANO, Texas (October 25, 2023) – NASCAR’s Cup and Xfinity Series hold their penultimate races at Martinsville, the cutoff race for the Championship 4. NHRA heads to Las Vegas with two races remaining in the Countdown to the Championship.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS

Championship 4 will be set by Sunday’s end … After his thrilling victory at Homestead, Christopher Bell clinched his second consecutive Championship 4 appearance, continuing Toyota’s streak as the only manufacturer to appear in every Championship 4. His Team Toyota companions, Tyler Reddick, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr, are below the cutline heading into the cutoff race this weekend. Reddick sits fifth, just 10 points out, while Hamlin and Truex are tied for sixth and need to make up 17 points this weekend.

Toyota’s makes history, continues pole dominance … Truex’s pole last weekend marked the milestone 500th for Toyota in NASCAR competition, continuing the lead Toyota has had on Cup Series poles in 2023. Toyota has claimed seven of the eight poles in the Cup Series Playoffs, 10 of the last 13 poles overall and holds 15 in total on the year leading all manufacturers by a sizable margin.

Gibbs makes 50th start … When he fires the engine of his Toyota Camry TRD this weekend, Ty Gibbs will make his 50th career Cup Series start. The 21-year-old has started every race in 2023 for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and made 15 starts for 23XI Racing last season.

Toyota Xfinity drivers in the hunt for the Championship 4 … Going into this weekend’s Xfinity Series cutoff race at Martinsville, John Hunter Nemechek is 44 points above the cutline, closing in on a Championship 4 berth. His JGR teammate, Sammy Smith, needs a win to advance to the championship race at Phoenix.

Nemechek looking for Martinsville sweep … Not only would a win officially secure a spot for Nemechek in the Championship 4, but it’d also give him the season sweep at Martinsville. The JGR driver took victory at the Virginia track in the spring, his second of seven wins this season.

Smith looking to continue short track success … In a must-win scenario, Smith will find comfort with the cutoff race at a short track. In the six short track races so far in 2023, he’s finished in the top-10 in five of them, including his victory at Phoenix and a second place at Martinsville in the spring.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Tight points battle with two races remaining … With championship weekend at Pomona in sight, the top three in the Top Fuel points standings are separated by just 13 points. Doug Kalitta and Steve Torrence sit second and third in the standings, eager for a big weekend in Las Vegas in hopes of claiming the points lead. Justin Ashley and Antron Brown come into the weekend fourth and fifth, respectively. In Funny Car, Ron Capps currently sits in fourth position.

Final event appearance streak at 21 … Going to Las Vegas this weekend, Toyota has appeared in 21 consecutive Top Fuel or Funny Car final rounds. Adding a 22nd consecutive final run will be paramount as multiple Toyota racers are amid championship battles.

Toyota looking to keep Top Fuel form in Las Vegas … Toyota’s Top Fuel drivers will look to claim a third victory in four Nevada Nationals. Before joining Team Toyota, Torrence claimed victory in 2021 while Brown stood atop the podium in 2020. Brown will also be looking for a season sweep at Las Vegas as he took victory at the Four Wide Nationals in April.

Martinsville NASCAR Xfinity Series Advance
NASCAR Xfinity Series Overview

  • Event: Martinsville 250 (Round 32 of 33)
  • Date: Saturday, Oct. 28
  • Location: Martinsville (Va.) Speedway
  • Layout: .526-mile oval
  • Time/TV/Radio: 3:30 p.m. EDT on USA/MRN/SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Cole Custer Notes of Interest

  • Cole Custer and the No. 00 Haas Automation team head to Saturday’s Martinsville 250 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway determined to defend their spot in the Championship 4 of the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs in the final race of the Round of 8. Custer arrives at the .526-mile, paperclip-shaped oval third in the standings, three points above the top-four cutline. He’s tied in points with fourth-place Austin Hill – each with 3,113 – but currently owns the tiebreaker. Justin Allgaier is the fifth-place driver in the standings with 3,110 points. A victory Saturday would lock Custer, Hill or Allgaier, or by their fellow Round of 8 competitors – second-place John Hunter Nemechek, sixth-place Sammy Smith, seventh-place Chandler Smith, or eighth-place Sheldon Creed – into the Championship 4 finale Nov. 4 at Phoenix Raceway, leaving the third and fourth positions in the standings to be decided on points. Sam Mayer locked himself into the Championship 4 with his victory last weekend at Homestead. Custer’s Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) teammate Riley Herbst, a non-playoff competitor, scored his first career Xfinity Series victory in the Round of 8 opener at Las Vegas, his home track.
  • Custer appeared to be headed to victory lane last weekend at Homestead after qualifying on the pole and leading a race-high 114 laps. But a flat tire and subsequent contact with the wall cost him the lead with 48 laps to go and forced him to come down pit road. He was able to salvage a 13th-place finish and protect his spot in the Championship 4. This weekend, Custer looks for another strong run and to finish the job at Martinsville, where he qualified on the pole and finished third in April. Ideally, he’d love to put all the points talk to rest by winning his first Martinsville Grandfather clock trophy on his way to chasing the championship trophy at Phoenix.
  • Saturday’s Martinsville 250 marks Custer’s second Xfinity Series start at Martinsville, his first coming in April. He also has a dozen previous outings at the track – six apiece in the NASCAR’s Cup Series and Truck Series. His best Cup Series finish there was 13th in October 2020. Best of his six Truck Series starts there 2014 through 2016 was his fourth-place run from the pole after leading a race-high 96 of 200 laps in the October 2015 race. That came while driving the No. 00 JR Motorsports entry, which he also drove to a seventh-place finish from the third starting position in the October 2016 race, in which he led 17 laps.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

  • Riley Herbst has been on a roll since he scored his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win Oct. 14 at his hometown Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After his milestone victory, the 24-year-old Monster Energy driver ran in the top-10 for a majority of last weekend’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where in the closing laps he passed second-place John Hunter Nemechek, then chased down leader Sam Mayer all the way to the checkered flag, finishing in the runner-up position just .227 of a second behind. Herbst now heads to Martinsville on a three-race top-five streak that started with his fourth-place finish Oct. 7 on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval. This is the first time in his career that he’s scored top-five finishes in three consecutive races in the Xfinity Series. He’s also matched his career-best eight top-fives in a season, earned first in 2022, and has led a career-high 148 this season. His previous best of 57 laps led came in his first season with SHR in 2021.
  • The Martinsville 250 will mark Herbst’s seventh Xfinity Series start at Martinsville. Four of his six previous starts there resulted in top-10 finishes. Prior to last October’s third-place run, in which he fought valiantly for the win over multiple late-race restarts, he posted a pair of sixth-place finishes at the .526-mile, paperclip-shaped oval – in October 2020 and April 2022. Herbst was running solidly in the top-10 in the series’ previous race at Martinsville in April, but was forced to retire 28 laps from the finish after getting caught up in an incident.
  • Herbst has come to excel on the short tracks in the Xfinity Series, which became evident last season. In addition to his sixth- and third-place finishes at Martinsville in the spring and fall races of 2022, respectively, he added a fifth-place finish in the April race at Richmond and a fifth-place finish at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September. Saturday night’s race at Martinsville will mark Herbst’s 17th on a short track in the Xfinity Series. His first career short-track start resulted in a sixth-place finish in June 2018 at Iowa Speedway in Newton. Since then, Herbst has added 11 top-10s. He appeared to be on his way to his first career Xfinity Series victory this past April at Richmond (Va.) Raceway where, after leading 27 laps, he was spun by another car that relegated him to a 23rd-place finish.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Homestead was a strong race for you until bad luck got in the way and took away your chance at a win. Still, you were able to defend your spot in the Championship 4 and move up to third in the standings. What do you feel like you need to do this weekend to compete for a championship at Phoenix?

“I think, going into Martinsville, we just have to keep doing what we’ve done all year. We’ve made our cars better and better throughout the year, and we’ve really grown as a team. Going into this weekend, you have to take it one step at a time, to be honest. You can’t get ahead of yourself. Some things probably aren’t going to go your way at some point during the day. That’s how things go in this sport. Nothing is guaranteed. You have to move on and maximize the day the best you can. Hopefully, we can do just that with the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang.”

You only have one career Xfinity Series start at Martinsville, but a good bit of experience there in the Cup Series and the Truck Series. What will it take this weekend to bring home a Grandfather clock?

“Martinsville is always a crazy race. That’s pretty much the only guarantee when heading there. You have to go there and make sure you keep your head on straight during the first two stages. From there, it’s just a matter of maximizing everything that you can in that final stage and knowing what you have to do. You have to understand your situation with your car and with the points. We had a fast Ford Mustang in the spring, and we’re doing little things to make it that much better for the second race. Hopefully, we’ll go out there and have a solid day. I think we can be in the thick of things at the end.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’ve had three straight top-five finishes, including your first career Xfinity Series win two weekends ago at Las Vegas. Safe to say the No. 98 Monster Energy team is bringing confidence to Martinsville this weekend?

“It definitely gives us confidence. Winning at Las Vegas was everything. It’s a day that I had wished for and, when it finally came, it was even better than I could’ve imagined. Even though each track and each race is different, I think that win just proved that we can go out there and compete for victories. Even last weekend at Homestead, we were there at the end when it mattered. We were close, but ultimately it’s showing what this team can do. While we may not be in the playoffs, we’re not just going to fade to the back of the pack. Every weekend is a new opportunity to race for a win. You have to take the NASCAR season one race at a time.”

Martinsville is thought to be such a difficult track, but you’ve performed well there, earning four top-10 finishes in six starts. How do you approach Saturday’s race?

“Martinsville is all about being smart and staying out of trouble. Qualifying well helps as it’s harder to drive your way up through the field on these short tracks. We had a strong run building there back in the spring, but bad luck forced us to retire early. Prior to that, though, we’ve had strong runs there with the No. 98 Monster Energy team. It’s a difficult track, for sure. There’s a lot of beating and banging but, if you’re smart, then you can come out on top and bring home the Grandfather clock. I don’t think you can count us out for this weekend, either, given our momentum and my history at Martinsville. We just have to pace ourselves and keep our heads on straight when things ultimately get heated on the track.”

MISSION FOODS ENTERS MULTI-YEAR DEAL AS TITLE SPONSOR OF NHRA’S PREMIER PROFESSIONAL SERIES

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will also include Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge at 14 races in 2024 after successful debut this season

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 25, 2023) – The NHRA and Mission Foods, the world’s leading brand for tortillas and wraps, announced today that Mission Foods has been named the title sponsor of the NHRA’s premier professional series, which will be known as the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series beginning with the 2024 season.

The multi-year professional series title partnership will be in full swing starting next year as the NHRA celebrates its 73rd year in 2024, and comes after a successful first-year partnership between the two companies this season. Mission Foods and the NHRA partnered together this year for the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge, introducing competitive racing – as well as a bonus purse and bonus playoff points – to Saturday qualifying. The overwhelming success of the current program helped lead to the expansion of the series title partnership for Mission Foods, which will include significant activation at the track and nearby store locations for all 21 national events.

The popular Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge will return in 2024 as part of the growing partnership, increasing to 14 regular-season events, including the two four-wide races, and offering an increased purse. The series title partnership and the Challenge continue Mission Foods’ overall motorsports initiative to help racers and race teams.

“This is a huge opportunity for us to keep connecting with fans while supporting motorsports in a major way,” said Juan Gonzalez, Mission Foods Chief Executive Officer. “There’s nothing better than race weekend, and we are proud that Mission Foods will become the official title sponsor of the NHRA Drag Racing Series.”

Mission Foods has been the industry leader for tortillas and wraps since 1977 and is the No. 1 tortilla company in the United States, also manufacturing a variety of authentic Mexican products.

As part of the title series partnership, Mission Foods will also be fully integrated at all NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series events and will have a strong presence on the midway, on social media and digitally and as part of every NHRA on FOX broadcast. The partnership will also include strong NHRA activation at retailers annually and in-market prior to each national event. Fans received a first glimpse of that in 2023, with star NHRA drivers like Antron Brown, Justin Ashley, Erica Enders, Alexis DeJoria, Cruz Pedregon, J.R. Todd, Camrie Caruso, Angelle Sampey, Eddie Krawiec and Gaige Herrera being featured as life-size cutouts with Mission Foods displays across the country. Those activations will continue on a greater level beginning next season as part of the exciting new multi-year partnership.

“Mission Foods has already shown such great passion for NHRA drag racing and giving back to racers, and to now have them become our new entitlement sponsor is an incredibly exciting moment for the NHRA and our race teams,” NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. “They were a tremendous partner last year, introducing the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge that changed the landscape of our race weekends, and we’re thrilled to see that relationship continue to grow on an even bigger level.”

The Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge will start at the second race in 2024– the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals on March 21-24 at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip – and take place at 14 regular-season events, including four-wide races in Las Vegas and Charlotte. The new race program was met with rave reviews from drivers, race teams and fans in 2023 and promises even more excitement next year.

Along with the bonus purse and the chance to celebrate a victory on Saturday during a race weekend, competitors in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge will also race for bonus points that will be awarded at the start of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs, adding a huge incentive for race teams to chase a Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge victory.

“We have heard from drivers and fans how much they appreciate Mission being involved with NHRA,” said Sathish Mohanraju, Mission Foods Vice President of Marketing & Trade Marketing. “A lot of drivers have thanked us for the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge, which has changed the face of weekend racing. NHRA racing fans are extremely brand loyal, and we’ve long felt that our sponsorships are positively driving sales and brand awareness.”

Sam Mayer
No. 1 Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions Chevrolet

  • Sam Mayer became the first driver to clinch a spot in the
Championship 4 with last weekend’s win at HomesteadMiami Speedway.
  • The young driver has won four times this season, including
two of the last three races. His average finish in those
    events is 2.3.
  • Mayer has four NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the .526- mile short track of Martinsville, scoring two top-five and three top-10 efforts.
  • In 14 starts on tracks measuring 1 mile and under, Mayer has five top-fives and eight top-10 finishes, with his best of third coming at Richmond in the spring of 2022.

Josh Berry
No. 8 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATV’s Chevrolet

  • Josh Berry returns this weekend to the site of his first career NXS victory, which came in the spring of 2021. On that day, he led 95 laps after starting 29th.
  • In five starts on the .526-mile oval, Berry has the win, two top-five and two top-10 finishes and has led 162 laps.
  • An acknowledged ace on short tracks, Berry has one win, three top-five and seven top-10 finishes in 14 starts and has led a total of 226 laps.
  • Bass Pro Shops, TRACKER Boats & ATVs returns to the No. 8 Chevrolet for this weekend’s event.

Brandon Jones
No. 9 Menards/Delta Faucets Chevrolet

  • Brandon Jones has one win, three top fives and five top 10s in six starts at the .526-mile paperclip. Jones was in the race lead during a green-white-checkered finish at this race last season before being spun from behind, ultimately finishing in the 23rd position.
  • Additionally, Jones started 12th and won the spring race last season. At the spring race this season, Jones started 10th and finished fifth to earn his first top-five finish with JRM.
  • With only one finish outside the top 10 at Martinsville, Jones holds an impressive average finish of just 8.2, which ranks as his second-best average finish in the NXS. It’s also the track where he has led the most laps in the series.

Justin Allgaier
No. 7 Hellmann’s Chevrolet

  • Justin Allgaier enters the third and final race in the Round of 8 in the NXS Playoffs just three points away from qualifying for the Championship 4.
  • In six previous NXS starts at Martinsville, Allgaier has scored three top fives and five top 10s, with a best finish of second coming in this event in 2020.
  • In this race last year, Allgaier, needing to race his way into the Championship 4, started sixth and came home with a fifth-place finish, securing his spot in the championship event at Phoenix the following week.
  • In his NXS short-track career, Allgaier has amassed five wins, 26 top fives and 44 top 10s in 72 starts.

Driver Quotes

“It feels really good to be able to head into Martinsville knowing we are already locked into the Championship 4, but that does not stop the hard work. I really enjoy Martinsville and short tracks in general, so I am excited to get back there. We are going to buckle down and take the momentum we gained from the Homestead win to hopefully put ourselves in contention for another solid finish this weekend.” – Sam Mayer

“We’ve been in this position before and I have all the confidence in the world in Jim (Pohlman, crew chief) and everyone on this Hellmann’s Chevrolet. Martinsville has been a strong track for us since its return to the schedule and I know we will be just as quick again this weekend. We just need to be smart all day long and keep the fenders on our JR Motorsports Camaro. If we can do that, then I feel extremely confident that we will accomplish what we have set out to do.” – Justin Allgaier

“It’s always good to come back to Martinsville knowing I’ve won here before, and the fact that it was my first NXS victory is pretty cool. We’ve run well here, led a lot of laps, but we haven’t had the best luck there lately. The goal this weekend is to run at the front, have a good, solid day and be contending for the win at the end. That would be a great weekend for me and the No. 8 Bass Pro Shops team here.” – Josh Berry

“Martinsville is a track that I have been able to get around really well every time we have raced there. We won the spring race last season and almost had the win in the fall. Jason (Burdett, crew chief) and this entire Menards/Delta Faucets team have been building great cars, which is showing by our results as of late. We had a good run at Martinsville earlier this year, and hopefully we can do that again and finish the job this weekend.” – Brandon Jones

JRM Team Updates

  • JR Motorsports at Martinsville: JR Motorsports has made a combined 26 starts at the famed ”Paperclip.” Over the course of those starts at the .526-mile oval, the organization has taken home two Grandfather Clocks and recorded 13 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes. The most recent win at Martinsville for JRM came during the 2021 season when the No. 9 team needed a win to race for a Championship and did just that.
  • Martinsville Fan Stage: JRM driver Josh Berry will be at the Martinsville Fan Stage located in the fan zone on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT.
  • Souvenir Rig: JRM drivers Justin Allgaier, Josh Berry, Brandon Jones and Sam Mayer will be signing autographs at the JR Motorsports / Legacy MC souvenir rig on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EDT.

Martinsville Up Next For Motorcraft/Quick Lane Team

The No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team is headed home this weekend to compete in the Xfinity 500 at historic Martinsville Speedway.

The venerable half-mile oval, which hosted its first NASCAR Cup Series race in 1949, is the home track of the Wood Brothers, who are from nearby Stuart, Va.

The Woods, who made their Martinsville debut in 1953 with the late team founder Glenn Wood at the wheel of a Lincoln, will be making their 125th Cup start there this weekend.

Martinsville also is home turf for crew chief Jeremy Bullins, who is from Walnut Cove, a North Carolina town just south of the speedway.

Driver Harrison Burton is a North Carolina native but his parents are from South Boston, Va., which is about an hour’s drive east of Martinsville.

Bullins said there are few venues on the Cup circuit as near to his heart as Martinsville Speedway.

“To say I love racing at Martinsville is an understatement,” Bullins said. “I grew up near the track, just into North Carolina, so it’s my home track on the circuit, and my dad used to take me to races there when I was young.

“I look forward to it every time and can’t wait to be back there with the 21 car.”

Bullins said he’s encouraged about the team’s prospects this weekend, especially considering Burton’s past results at Martinsville. He won an Xfinity Series race there in the fall of 2020 and sat on the pole and finished seventh the following spring.

“Harrison has had some strong runs there and grew up with a lot of short track racing in his background,” Bullins said. “We have some new variables this week with Goodyear bringing a new tire since the spring race.

“Qualifying is going to be super important, so we will work hard to get a good starting spot and try to keep our Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford up front all day.”

Practice at Martinsville is set for Saturday at 12:35 p.m. Eastern Time and will be followed by qualifying at 1:20. USA Network will carry the TV broadcast.

Sunday’s 500-lap race is scheduled to get the green flag just after 2 p.m., with TV coverage on NBC.

Stage breaks are planned for Laps 130 and 260.

Event Overview

● Event: Xfinity 500 (Round 35 of 36)
● Time/Date: 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Oct. 29
● Location: Martinsville (Va.) Speedway
● Layout: .526-mile oval

● Stage Lengths: Stage 1: 130 laps / Stage 2: 130 laps / Final Stage: 240 laps
● TV/Radio: NBC / MRN / SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

Notes of Interest

● Interstate Batteries – one of the most tenured team sponsors in NASCAR history – began its 32nd season as the founding sponsor of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) with an expanded presence that featured the brand’s iconic green livery across all four of JGR’s NASCAR Cup Series entries. As the green colors will adorn Bell’s car one final time for 2003 this weekend at Martinsville, Interstate Batteries returns to the iconic Martsinville track for the first time since 2007 when JJ Yeley piloted the No. 18 Interstate Batteries machine.

● Captain Clutch: With a major deficit in the point standings heading to Martinsville one year ago, Bell’s likely only path was to win to make the Championship 4. With their backs against the wall, Bell and the No. 20 team led 150 laps to bring home the victory and lock him into his first Championship berth at Phoenix, where he went on to finish third the following week.

● Final Four Bound: For the second year in a row, Bell brought home a victory in the Round of 8 to lock himself into the Championship 4 in Nov. 5 at Phoenix Raceway, this time at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend. Suffering from an ill-handling car through the middle portion of the race, Bell, crew chief Adam Stevens and the No. 20 team never gave up. They took advantage of a caution that helped gain them track position. Bell then surged to the lead with 16 laps to go and sealed the deal with another clutch playoff performance and a berth in the Final 4 on the line.

● Battle-Tested Crew Chief: Bell’s crew chief Adam Stevens is as familiar with making it to the Championship 4 and winning championships as any other active crew chief. Thanks to the team’s win at Homestead-Miami Speedway this past weekend, Stevens will make his seventh Championship 4 appearance. His previous six have yielded two Cup Series championships with former JGR driver Kyle Busch. Busch and Stevens went to five Championship 4s in a row from 2015 to 2019.

●Well Above Average: Approaching the completion of the second season with the NASCAR NextGen Cup Series car, Bell has the third-best average finish in the playoffs with the current car through its 18 postseason races. Bell’s average playoff finish of 10.6 sits behind William Byron’s 7.4 and JGR teammate Denny Hamlin’s 9.9 over the past two seasons.

● Bell has one victory, one top-five and two top-10 finishes and has led a total of 159 laps in seven career Cup Series outings at Martinsville. Bell’s average Martinsville finish is 14.9.

Christopher Bell, Driver of the No. 20 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry TRD

What is your mindset for Martinsville this weekend now that you are locked into the Championship 4 in Phoenix two weekends from now?

“Your outlook for the race is completely different. So if the strategy presents itself, an opportunity to flip the stages and get track position, you take it because you’re not worried about points. Those guys have a lot more to race for than what I do now going into Martinsville with our Interstate Batteries Camry. The mentality is completely different for them than it is for me. You just have to be aware of that. Being able to focus on just winning the race and not having to score points definitely has its benefits. That’s where we’re at. I think we should be really competitive this week. Martinsville is obviously a good track for me. I look forward to going there and having a week with no pressure. We have Interstate Batteries on our car for the final time this year and we’ll do everything we can to win for those guys. It would be sweet to get them to victory lane and then get ready for Phoenix next week.”

Do you consider yourself this clutch guy, and do you look forward to having that opportunity to bring home a win in a clutch spot like you did at Homestead?

“I don’t want to be put in those positions. It’s not like I sit here and try to be put in a pinch. It was very nice in the Round of 12 this year to have a good Texas and just be able to survive, right? Once I got that good finish at Texas, Talladega was, ‘OK, collect our points.’ Charlotte, same thing: ‘Collect our points.’ Certainly is a lot easier, but they’re not always like that. We’ve been really blessed and fortunate to be able to execute in these positions. I’m just proud of the effort from everybody around me because I’m just a small piece of what the success is.”

What does it mean to be part of this special sponsorship program with Interstate Batteries on your car this weekend?

“I think I’ve said this a few times before, but driving the Interstate Batteries car is kind of a right of passage at JGR – it’s like you are officially part of the club. It’s a big deal to everyone at Interstate Batteries and everyone at JGR – they are the team’s founding partner. It’s an honor to be able to drive that car and would be even more special to get a win for those guys.”

With your Championship 4 experience last season, does that help you when you get to Phoenix again this year?

“I think everything in your career and your life will help you further on down the road. Certainly, making the final four – it will be a big help now that we’re able to go back there. I know that from last year, my Round of 8 didn’t go well because I wrecked out at Las Vegas and didn’t have a good Miami, but I was still able to win at Martinsville. Even on the flip side, Denny Hamlin was in on points at Martinsville, all of the way to the last corner, so fortunately for me, it worked the other way where I was out, and then I was in, in the very end, but you are never safe until that checkered flag falls at Martinsville unless you are locked in like we are.”

What are some of the things your crew chief Adam Stevens has brought to you that has sharpened you?

“Adam has been able to instill confidence in me by giving me fast racecars and cars that I know are going to handle good enough for me. He’s probably the best leader that I’ve ever driven for. He knows how to manage the highs and lows of a season, and he definitely can bring out the best in me.”

NASCAR to Celebrate Champion’s Week in Music City

Annual postseason celebration will honor NASCAR champions in Nashville during 2023 Awards

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 25, 2023) – NASCAR’s Diamond Anniversary culminates with the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series returning to Nashville on Nov. 29 and 30 to close out the 75th anniversary season and honor each series champion.

The 2023 NASCAR Awards will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Music City Center to formally honor the 2023 champions from all three NASCAR National Series. After a momentous season, drivers and industry personalities will embrace the city of Nashville to celebrate the 75th anniversary one final time. For the first time in Nashville, NASCAR will also recognize the champions from the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, ARCA Menards Series, ARCA Menards Series East, ARCA Menards Series West and NASCAR International Series on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

“As we continue to commemorate our diamond anniversary, there is no other place we’d rather return for our end of the year celebration than Music City,” said Pete Jung, SVP, Chief Marketing Officer at NASCAR. “We are ecstatic to bring Champion’s Week back to Nashville for a fourth year. The energy of this city never goes unnoticed and the fans’ dedication for our sport never fails.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 29 NASCAR will initiate two new fan activations, NASCAR House and NASCAR Champion Car Parade. NASCAR House will take place in the city center on 5th and Broadway from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. CT. The NASCAR Champion Car Parade will take to the street of Broadway from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. CT. More details will become available on both activations in the coming weeks.

Last year, NASCAR honored Cup Series champion, Joey Logano, Xfinity Series champion, Ty Gibbs, and CRAFTSMAN Truck Series champion, Zane Smith. The formal postseason Awards is a tradition that stretches back to 1981, when the event was held in New York City. It relocated to Las Vegas in 2009 and then called Nashville its home for the first time in 2019. Over the last three years NASCAR has seen an astounding turnout from the Nashville fans not only at the racetrack, but for the celebration of Champion’s Week. NASCAR looks to continue the tradition and conclude the season at one of the most iconic cities in the country.
