About Grand Prix of Portland

Portland International Raceway (PIR) is the home of the Grand Prix of Portland. PIR is a 1.964-mile, 12-turn permanent road course owned by the City of Portland and operated under the Portland Parks and Recreation. Opened in 1960 to host sports car and drag racing, the 268-acre property hosts over 550 events annually including automotive and motorcycle road racing, motocross, cruise-ins and other special events including the Rose Cup Races. PIR has been the site of many memorable INDYCAR races. Al Unser Jr. won the inaugural one in 1984, and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES returned in 2018 after an 11-year absence with 2017 and 2020 Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato taking the checkered flag. The Father’s Day race of 1986 featured Mario Andretti victorious over his son Michael on the last lap by less than a second. The closest three-way road racing finish in INDYCAR SERIES history took place at PIR in 1997 when the top three were covered by just 0.055 of a second. The Grand Prix of Portland is owned and operated by Green Savoree Portland, LLC, which also promotes NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Pacific Office Automation 147 event at PIR (June 2-3, 2023) and whose affiliates own and operate three additional INDYCAR SERIES races: Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding (March 3-5, 2023), The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio (June 30-July 2, 2023) and Honda Indy Toronto (July 14-16, 2023).

NASCAR Top-10 Power Rankings: Martinsville

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.

1. Joey Logano: Logano finished seventh in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville and joins Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell and Ross Chastain in the championship round.

“We’re headed to Phoenix,” Logano said, “to race for all the marbles. And to win all the marbles, you’ve got to have the biggest pair of them.”

2. Ross Chastain: Chastain blasted his way into the championship round, pinning his No. 1 Chevy to the outside all and rocketing his way past Denny Hamlin for the fourth and final playoff spot.

“It was totally worth it,” Chastain said. “One side of my car may be damaged beyond repair, but at least I’m on the ‘right side’ of the playoff field.”

3. Christopher Bell: Bell came through under pressure to win at Martinsville and advance to the championship round.

“I’ve pulled out two must-win victories in the Playoffs,” Bell said. “Can I do it one more time at Phoenix? Maybe, but I’ll need all my fans to do the pulling, and then, hopefully, I can pull through.”

4. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin won Stages 1 and 2 at Martinsville, but came up short and missed the championship round by one spot.

“Ross Chastain did it to me again,” Hamlin said. “Not by wrecking my car, but by wrecking his.”

5. Chase Elliott: Elliott took 11th at Martinsville, which was enough to get him into the championship round at Phoenix.

“It was too close for my liking,” Elliott said, “but I secured the last playoff spot. I was never really too worried that I wouldn’t qualify, but with it being the day before Halloween, I was a little scared.”

6. Ryan Blaney: Blaney finished third at Martinsville, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the championship round.

“I didn’t win a single race this season,” Blaney said. “So, I don’t even belong in the championship round in the ‘first place.'”

7. William Byron: Byron started 25th and made his way up to an eighth-place finish, but missed the championship round.

“It looks like Ross Chastain got the last laugh in his season of confrontations with Denny Hamlin,” Byron said. “But if you think there was friction before Martinsville, then you haven’t seen what was going on between the wall and Chastain’s car.”

8. Kevin Harvick: Harvick finished 16th at Martinsville.

“My No. 4 car had the words ‘Boosch’ on it,” Harvick said. “Ross Chastain was going so fast on that last lap, his car should have ‘Whoosh‘ on it.”

9. Kyle Larson: Larson started on the pole at Martinsville and finished second, one week after a dominant win at Homestead.

“I saved my best for last,” Larson said, “which was much later than I needed it.”

10. Daniel Suarez: Suarez finished 12th in the Xfinity 500.

“Congratulations to my Trackhouse Racing teammate Ross Chastain,” Suarez said. “His wall-riding strategy was a brilliant strategy, but will NASCAR rule in the future that such a move is illegal? Ross may have opened up a can of worms, while his team may have opened a can of paint.”

McDowell and Gilliland score Top-20 Finishes at Martinsville

Front Row Motorsports (FRM) traveled to the ‘paperclip’ this weekend for the penultimate round in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season at Martinsville Speedway and came away with two top-20 finishes after 500 laps of short-track racing.

Todd Gilliland’s scored his best finish at Martinsville with a 13th-place finish in the No. 38 Moji Sushi Ford Mustang.

Michael McDowell and the Fr8Auctions.com team brought home the No. 34 Ford in 17th place, his fourth top-20 at Martinsville.

Todd Gilliland and the No. 38 Moji Sushi team started off the 500-lap race at Martinsville from the 19th position, running some of the fastest lap times on the track throughout the first stage of the race.

During stage two, Gilliland’s Ford Mustang would trend toward the tight side, making it hard for the car to turn in on entry and snapping loose on exit. The No. 38 ultimately fell a lap down in the stage but worked hard to get the car back where it need to be.

With some late cautions, Gilliland was able to take the wave around, putting himself back on the lead lap and in a prime position to make up some positions. With only 18 cars on the lead lap, the No. 38 raced it’s way up and crossed the line in 14th at the finish. Due to a car receiving a penalty in post-race inspection, Gilliland was credited with a 13th-place finish.

“We had a really great Moji Sushi Ford Mustang,” said Gilliland. “We got off balance there a bit in stage two, but the guys did a great job on pit road getting the adjustments we need to help get where we needed to be. It feels good to come out with a 13th-place finish at a place like Martinsville. Hopefully, we can take this a build on it at Phoenix next weekend.”

At a track that has not been kind to McDowell and his Fr8Auctions.com Ford team in the past, the team went into the weekend looking to change that narrative going into this past weekend’s race. Starting the race in thirteenth after a good qualifying lap, the team did not skip a beat racing well inside the top-15 for the duration of the all-green first stage.

With a loose handling race car, the Fr8Auctions.com team took the few chances they had to correct the handling for McDowell, by taking swings at the chassis by way of wedge adjustments. With a car now more fit to McDowell’s liking, the team would have to fight from one lap down, however, still inside the top-15 after an all-green second stage. Fighting hard to gain their lap back by way of the wave-around or free pass, the team would get their chance at the end of stage three.

With a mostly green stage three as well, the drama began within fifty to go. Through a series of cautions, McDowell fought hard to become the first car one lap down, and with the last caution with less than thirty laps remaining, the team would get their chance. With fresh tires and a perfectly handling race car, the team would just fall short of passing for position after starting at the tail end of the field for receiving the free pass, with the few amount of laps that were left. McDowell and his Fr8Auctions.com/Brave Like Wyatt team would finish on the lead lap in 17th after battling for just over half the race to get back on the lead lap.

“Not the day we had hoped for, but a lead lap and top-20 finish is great even though we always hope for more. We just missed it in the second half of the race and weren’t able to capitalize on gaining back track position. We got back on the lead lap very late, but were too far behind for that last restart, but I’m proud of Blake and everyone on the Fr8Auctions.com/Brave Like Wyatt team for fighting hard and not giving up all race, and giving us a shot at it in the end.”

In the team’s final weekend of the season, Zane Smith will look to capture his first Truck title on Friday, while it’s a homecoming weekend for Michael McDowell and last rookie race for Todd Gilliland on the Cup side this Sunday.

Buescher Finishes 24th at Martinsville

No. 17 Team Struggles to Rebound in Virginia

RIDGEWAY, Va. (Oct. 30, 2022) – On the weekend of his 30th birthday, Chris Buescher wished for a solid showing at the 0.526-mile short track in southern Virginia. Unfortunately, the Fifth Third Bank Ford could never find the break it needed to surge forward, finishing 24th.

Rolling off from the 22nd position, Buescher would maintain that spot for the end of stage one, although he’d lose a lap to the leaders. Under the stage break, the No. 17 team opted to take four tires and fuel.

Beginning stage two from the 21st position, the Fifth Third Bank Ford would struggle to find the right balance it needed, falling three laps down before the green-checkered flag would fall on lap 260.

Stage three would begin on lap 271, seeing four cautions for incident. Beginning the stage in 27th, the No. 17 team gained two positions in the second half of the race to ultimately finish 24th.

The 2022 NASCAR season comes to a close this weekend in Phoenix. Race coverage Sunday is set for 3 p.m. ET on NBC, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

TPC Racing Travels Two-Car IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo Team to Portugal for Season-Ending Grand Finals

  • TPC Racing’s International Competition Debut Features Wesley Slimp and Tyler Hoffman in the No. 9 HNTB Companies Lamborghini Huracán and Billy Johnson in the No. 71 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation Lamborghini Huracán
  • Packed Six-Day Schedule of Events at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal Includes Season-Ending Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Doubleheader on Friday and International Super Trofeo Grand Finals this Weekend

Portimão, Algarve, Portugal (October 31, 2022) – TPC Racing and two of its Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 contenders have arrived in Portugal for six full days of on-track action at the Algarve International Circuit, November 1 – 6. The nearly week-long schedule of events culminates with Friday’s season-ending IMSA Super Trofeo North America doubleheader and this weekend’s global Super Trofeo Grand Finals.

Both the No. 9 HNTB Companies Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, co-driven by Wesley Slimp and Tyler Hoffman, and the Pro-class No. 71 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 of Billy Johnson compete on the 2.891-mile circuit in Portimão in Southern Portugal.

The Super Trofeo dual event is the first time TPC Racing has competed outside of North America in the more than 20-year history of the race and championship-winning sports car racing team. Although TPC has been victorious in internationally-recognized major races in North America – including a GT-class victory in the 2006 Rolex 24 At Daytona – the Super Trofeo extravaganza at the Portimão circuit marks TPC’s first competition foray overseas.

TPC’s path to Portimão began with its move to IMSA Super Trofeo North America competition late in the 2020 season. The team’s first full year in the series in 2021 set the stage for even more success this season.

Slimp and Hoffman gave TPC its first Super Trofeo victory in 2022’s season-opening event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in late April. That win in the LB Cup-class promptly saw race officials elevate the HNTB No. 9 to the Am-class in which Slimp and Hoffman have continued to be competitive. The duo has third-place finishes at Road America in August and New Orleans this past May. Similar results Friday in Portugal, or even the team’s first Am-class win, could elevate Slimp, Hoffman and the No. 9 team to a top-three season-championship finish.

Johnson and the No. 71 team have been pushing for their first race win in the top-tier Pro class all season. They arrive in Portugal after securing Johnson’s and the team’s first podium finish in the final Super Trofeo North America race of the year at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in late August.

Johnson started from the outside front row in the VIR race, led the 50-minute sprint twice and overcame a late-race car issue to score the long overdue Pro-class and overall podium finish.

The unique and jammed format for the Portimão finale will see TPC contest six races over three days, with a pair of 50-minute sprints on the schedule each day this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The schedule begins Tuesday for three days of testing, practice and qualifying through Thursday. Friday’s Super Trofeo North America doubleheader kicks the racing off with the first 50-minute sprint race at 11 a.m. local time and the final race of the year slated to go green later that day at 3:50 p.m. Portugal time.

The Saturday and Sunday Grand Finals races are an all-out battle between the European Super Trofeo teams and their North American counterparts. The full format creates the need for split-group races, with the LB Cup and Am classes competing together and the Pro and Pro-Am teams sharing the track for their Grand Finals races.

Slimp, Hoffman and the No. 9 compete in the LB Cup/Am races that are scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Saturday and Noon local time on Sunday. Johnson and the No. 71 team close out their Super Trofeo season in the Pro/Pro-Am races at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday and 2:50 p.m. local time on Sunday.

All races will be livestreamed on YouTube on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse channel. Current Portimão local time is four hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time, but viewers are encouraged to double check livestream times considering early Sunday in the U.S. will see the annual one-hour “fall back” time change from daylight time to standard time.

Harris Levitas, TPC Racing Director of Race Operations: “It’s a very exciting event for the TPC Racing team. Everyone has worked so hard all year developing our Super Trofeo platforms in a great way and shown it by running further and further up the field in every event we have been to. We are really looking forward to taking the TPC Racing team overseas and running in an international format. We have never done that before and it is definitely an exciting venture for the team as a whole. It will be a bit tricky once everybody arrives because our drivers have not been to this circuit before, but with all of the testing time that Lamborghini is allowing everybody should adapt pretty well. Our cars are in really good shape to fight at the front of the field. Wesley Slimp and Tyler Hoffman have worked really well all year, getting better and better at each round, and they had a race win and a couple of podium finishes. They have had a great season so far and can carry that momentum in the USA rounds and in the international Grand Finals. We also bring some momentum forward from the last U.S. race with Billy Johnson finishing third in Virginia. He will be really strong.in Friday’s USA rounds. Then in the Lamborghini Grand Finals, Billy will be competing in the Pro/Pro-Am class against other competitors in those classes from both the U.S. and Europe. It will be great seeing him perform in that and hopefully get the TPC No. 71 Lamborghini to the front of that field.”

Tyler Hoffman, Driver – No. 9 HNTB Companies Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2: “It’s been a great season so far for us in IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo with TPC Racing. We’ve won every trophy along the podium and plan to add to our collection in Portugal. We would like to run up front and finish on the podium in hopes of finishing top three in the Super Trofeo North America championship. Racing in Europe will be a new experience for myself and my first trip to Portugal. The track looks incredible. I’ve been watching video and talking with friends, particularly Geoff May, who raced World Superbike back in the day over there. It sounds like a mix of Barber Motorsports Park and Road Atlanta, two of my favorite tracks, so I should feel right at home within a session or two. I’ve only heard great things about the country, so I am very much looking forward to it. Europe has been good to my fiancée Shannon and I with our engagement last month in Ireland, so we hope that good luck keeps rolling on!”

Billy Johnson, Driver – No. 71 DSC Sport/Erin Levitas Foundation Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2: “It’s super cool to be going to the Super Trofeo Grand Finals in Portugal for the last race of the year in a different country, at a really awesome race track and having all of the other championships there at the same time. They guys have been working really hard to get our car in top shape and competitive for Portugal, and we are really looking forward to being with the competition out there and giving it our all. Both final rounds of the U.S championship will be run Friday, so it’s really important to survive the first race and not go into race two with any damage that can’t be repaired or repaired fully from race one. The Super Trofeo races are always super crazy and pretty busy, especially on starts and restarts, so you never know when you are going to get caught up in an incident. So it’s really important to keep the car clean to not only have a strong car to finish race one but also the final race. The weekend’s Grand Finals races will help a little bit with split class races but we have seen several times in the course of this season that their have been incidents within the first three or four rows with the top-class cars. Having races separate from Am and LB Cup will play a factor but doesn’t eliminate all of the potential opportunities for contact. That’s just the nature of sprint racing. Everybody is going for it, 11/10ths from the drop of the green flag. All of us at the TPC Racing team make our debut at Portimão and I have been doing a lot of practice on the simulator and the track looks beautiful. A lot of elevation changes and looks like a lot of fun. Super excited to be going.”

Petty GMS Race Recap: Martinsville Speedway II

Ty Dillon, No. 42 US Space Force Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

START: 32nd
FINISH: 31st
POINTS: 29th

Ty Dillon Post-Race Thoughts: “Today was a really tough outing for our No. 42 race team at Martinsville. Qualifying near the back didn’t do us any favors, and having to start that deep really made us a sitting duck to be lapped early on. We fought some handling challenges throughout the day, and Chad (Norris, crew chief) and the guys took some big swings at it, but unfortunately our race got cut short due to an issue with the brakes. It was a great experience to represent all of the US Space Force on our Camaro this weekend. We’ve got one more race as a group together next weekend in Phoenix and I know everyone is going to try to end the season on a high note.”

Erik Jones Post-Race Thoughts: “Not our day today in Martinsville for our US Air Force team. We need to do better qualifying, especially on the short tracks. We start a little behind the eight ball when we start so far back, so we just need to work on getting better at qualifying so we can focus on making our Camaro’s better throughout the race. The guys did a good job today. They stuck with it and made great changes and had solid pit stops all day. We’ll keep getting better and the finishes will come. On to Phoenix for the last race of the season.”

Sound Bites:

“Yeah, that was kind of the only play I felt like we really had. I was honestly surprised nobody else stayed out in front of me. We couldn’t really pass all day long, so we knew if we restarted eighth, where I think we were running, we probably would’ve run seventh or eighth. I thought it was going to work for a second. I thought if the race was 10 less laps, I was probably going to win, but I just fell off a cliff really hard there at the end. It’s unfortunate, but I had a shot. The penalty early in the race killed us. Like I said, it was really hard to pass and had to scrap and claw position by position and it took us a really long time to get back up there, but I thought our car was pretty good toward the end. It would’ve been nice to be on even tires, for sure. I felt like we had a car capable of running up front and battling for the win, but that was really the only play we had left. It’s frustrating. The penalty really took us out of it. You just couldn’t pass. We were running third or fourth and got the penalty and went back to 18th and literally ran 18th pretty much the rest of the day until we were able to get one spot at a time on restarts, so win as a team, lose as a team. Those pit crew guys kept me in the playoffs a lot of the time. I don’t think we really had a pit-road penalty all year long and it came at this race, but we’ll go on to Phoenix and try to redeem ourselves. I felt like in the last six races we’ve had five top-10s, so this is the kind of speed and momentum we need to have going into the start of next year. I feel like we’re really hitting our stride, so that’s encouraging. I feel like we’re more than capable of being a top-10 team every week, it’s just a matter of putting it all together and we’ve been doing that a lot better at the end of the year.” – Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Rush Truck Centers / Cummins Ford Mustang

One Chevrolet driver was crowned an NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series champion and two others took large steps at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to winning world titles.

Erica Enders earned a hat trick in the NHRA Nevada Nationals – yellow hat as the No. 1 qualifier, green hat as the race winner and for the fifth time in her career the white hat signifying the Pro Stock world champion.

Enders, driving the Melling Performance Chevrolet Camaro SS, picked up a personal-best 10th victory of the season by defeating Elite Motorsports teammate Troy Coughlin Jr. in the final. She wrapped up the title with a semifinal win over Kyle Koretsky’s Lucas Oil Camaro SS.

“It’s a huge blessing. We came out here ready for battle this year because of the fashion that we lost the championship last year, so hats off to my guys. It’s them that stand behind me. I could not be more proud the be their driver,” said Enders, who has also won Pro Stock titles in 2014, ’15. ’19 and 2020. “This is a testament – not only this championship but all the others as well – that you don’t ever give up. You dig deep, play with all the heart that you have when the cards are stacked against you. It’s like David and Goliath. You go to battle and you have not fear, you have the faith.”

John Force Racing teammates Brittany Force and Robert Hight head into the season finale Nov. 13 with faith in their talents and teams – and with the points lead in their respective classes.

Force earned her career-best fifth Top Fuel win of the season. The No. 1 qualifier for the ninth time this season in the Flav-R-Pac/Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster, Force turned an 82-point disadvantage in the standings into a seven-point advantage over Justin Ashley as she aims for her second world championship.

“I’ve been saying all season long one weekend at a time. Coming into this weekend, not looking at Pomona until we leave here. Right now, we got the win, we got the points lead and we’re going to get right back on track,” said Force, who reached her 35th career final.

“To come out here and win on a holeshot, it’s giving it back to my guys for all the times they carried me. It’s a thank you to them. We wanted to win today, we chased it down and we got it done. We’ll keep our focus and worry about what we can control as we head into Pomona. I wouldn’t want to go into this battle with anyone else but this Flav-R-Pac/Monster Energy team.”

Funny Car No. 1 qualifier Hight, who entered the penultimate event of the 22-race season with a 10-point lead, ran to a runner-up finish in the Automobile Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS to leave Las Vegas with a healthier margin over reigning world champ Ron Capps.

It was the third time this season that Chevrolet swept the top qualifier honors –Richmond (Force and Hight) and Reading (Austin Prock and Hight). Hight, advancing to his 96th career Funny Car trophy dash, was the top qualifier for the sixth time this season and 77th of his career.

The Auto Club Finals will feature 30 points per round win (points and a half). FS1 will telecast eliminations from Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California, live at 4 p.m. ET.

John Force, the No. 5 qualifier in the PEAK Antifreeze and Coolant Camaro SS, fell in the quarterfinals. He remains fourth in the Funny Car standings.

Austin Prock advanced to the Top Fuel semifinals in the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist Chevrolet dragster. Prock, the No. 2 qualifier, moved to sixth in the standings.

Enders advanced to her 12th final in 18 races this season and 73rd of her career, making a pass of 6.640 seconds for her 10th win.

“We won nine events in 2015 when we won the world championship and we were fortunate enough to lock it up here,” she said. “As a personal goal, I wanted to win one more that than so we were able to do that today by securing our 10th victory on the season. We don’t plan on letting up going to Pomona.

“This whole season has been a dream come true for our whole team. This season, like every season, we set out to win races and win a championship and we did just that. We spent the whole season with a No. 2 on the car and that didn’t set well with any of us. It lit a fire under our team to become champs again.”

Leo Glasbrenner of Murrieta, California, drove his Chevrolet COPO Camaro to victory for the third time this season in Stock Eliminator. He also won at Pomona and Phoenix.

“Fortunately, I got the good side of the ladder. I had a single, made some adjustments for the semis and when I let go of the footbrake in the final, I thought it was red and it came up green and the win light turn on for the third time this year,” Glasbrenner said.

An interview with Pro Stock champion ERICA ENDERS, MELLING PERFORMANCE/ELITE MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS:

THAT WAS QUITE A DAY FOR YOU.

“What an incredible day. We came in and wanted to just semi out so we could keep the points lead and win the championship and my crew chief, Mark Ingersoll, said (no way) we’re going for it. I just had to drive it. I did a marginal job today and we were able to park the Melling Performance car in the winner’s circle.”

TWELVE FINAL ROUNDS AND TEN WINS THIS YEAR AND NOT DONE YET. YOU’VE HAD PRO STOCK DREAMS THAT DIDN’T GO THAT GOOD.

“We won nine events in 2015 when we won the world championship and we were fortunate enough to lock it up here. As a personal goal, I wanted to win one more that than so we were able to do that today by securing our 10th victory on the season. We don’t plan on letting up going to Pomona.”

HOW DOES THIS CHAMPIONSHIP STACK UP WITH THE OTHERS?

“It’s a huge blessing. We came out here ready for battle this year because of the fashion that we lost the championship last year, so hats off to my guys. It’s them that stand behind me. This is a testament – not only this championship but all the others as well – that you don’t ever give up. You dig deep, play with all the heart that you have when the cards are stacked against you. It’s like David and Goliath. You go to battle and you have not fear, you have the faith. I could not be more proud the be their driver.”

YOU WANTED TO BEAT YOUR SEASON-BEST WIN TOTAL AND YOU’VE DONE THAT. WHAT IS THIS FEELING FOR YOU?

“The sky is the limit. We’ll keep on going. What a great day. We did what we call a hat trick – we got the No. 1 qualifier, we got the winner’s hat and we got the white one, which means world champion. To be able to do it five times and join the list of people like Bob Glidden and Jeg Coughlin, couldn’t mean anything more to me. We’re happy to park this Melling Performance Chevy Camaro in the winner’s circle. At the beginning of this year, I though five wins would be sufficient; that’s how tough this class is. When we got to the middle of the season we thought why not ten. Well, now why not 11?”

WHEN WILL YOU BE SATISFIED?

“I don’t know; you just keep going. I drive a really badass Chevy Camaro that Rick Jones built and I’m thrilled. I don’t know if that fire will ever get put out. I’m going to enjoy the ride while it lasts.”

An interview with Top Fuel winner BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, FLAV-R-PAC/MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET DRAGSTER:

YOUR TEAM WAS SLUGGING IT OUT THIS DEEP INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP COUNTDOWN.

“We’ve really come a long way this season. We’ve had a great season. We carried No. 1 and then we lost it right when it mattered and we got lost for the first three races of the Countdown. Somehow we still hung in there at that No. 2 spot, and then today our goal coming in was let’s do what we do best. Let’s go for low of every session, let’s grab as many points as we can, go No. 1 and try to win this thing.”

JUSTIN ASHLEY GOES OUT EARLY AND YOU’VE GOT TO BE THINKING OPPORTUNITY. WE CANNOT LET THIS GET AWAY.

“I actually didn’t know that he went out until we were back (at the hauler). My focus is once I’m in that car, once I’m in the staging lane, once I’m at the starting line it’s only that. I don’t look around me because it’s another distraction, and you don’t need distractions when you’re trying to cut a light and turn a win light on.”

IN THE FINAL, HOW GOOD IS IT TO HEAR BRITTANY WINS ON A HOLESHOT?

“It feels fantastic. I struggled today, all weekend. We’re closing in on the championship and there is a lot of pressure. There’s a lot on our shoulders, our entire team. I pulled up to that final and I wasn’t proud of my lights all day. I knew I could do better than that, so pulling up to that final round I said let’s get this together because we’ve got to win this race and leave as the points leader.”

ONE RACE LEFT AND YOU’VE GOT A LEGITIMATE SHOT TO BE A TWO-TIME TOP FUEL CHAMPION.

“I’ve been saying all season long one weekend at a time. Coming into this weekend, not looking at Pomona until we leave here. Right now, we got the win, we got the points lead and we’re going to get right back on track.”

CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPIT

TOP FUEL

AUSTIN PROCK, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONTANA BRAND/ROCKY MOUNTAIN TWIST CHEVROLET DRAGSTER: “Awesome weekend for our Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist team. We backed out No. 1 qualifier from Dallas with a No. 2 and then had a semifinal appearance. We managed to move up in the points again and we’ll be looking for another strong weekend in Pomona.”

FUNNY CAR

ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTOMOBILE CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “That wasn’t quite the way we scripted the weekend ending. Still, not a bad weekend for our Auto Club team we were able to grow our points lead which was important, we went rounds and qualified well, every point matters right now. We’re still in control of our own destiny, if we go out and win Pomona, we win the championship. This team knows how to get the job done, eight wins so far this season, one more and we know we have the title. The competition is so intense right now, it’s going to be a fight but this Auto Club team is ready for it.”

JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK ANTIFREEZE AND COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “Not a bad weekend, not the way we wanted it to end, but we qualified well, went a couple rounds. Overall, it was a good weekend. Brittany with Flav-R-Pac getting the win and the points lead back and then Robert with Auto Club going to the finals and gaining points, making sure we’re all still chasing him. Even Austin Prock over there with Montana Brand, he went some rounds. So, we’re in a good spot. Pomona is going to be exciting, going to be an exciting end to the season.”

Xfinity 500

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Pardon My Cheesesteak Camaro ZL1

Start: 21st

Stage 1 Finish: 26th

Stage 2 Finish: 28th

Finish: 23rd

“We struggled all day just fighting rear grip. Track position is just so important here, but we couldn’t seem to pass. Overall, it wasn’t the best day for us, but hopefully we can pin point some weak spots for next year.” – AJ Allmendinger

Justin Haley, No. 31 LeafFilter Gutter Protection Camaro ZL1

Start: 29th

Stage 1 Finish: 28th

Stage 2 Finish: 27th

Finish: 27th

“We lacked rear grip starting early on in the race and went down a couple laps. The cautions just fell at the wrong time for us throughout the race, and we just couldn’t get back on the lead lap. We will go back to the drawing board for when we come back to Martinsville next season and see if we can finish on a strong note in Phoenix.” – Justin Haley

Dead On Tools 250

Daniel Hemric, No. 11 AG1 Chevrolet

Start: 37th

Stage 1 Finish: 19th

Stage 2 Finish: 14th

Finish: 8th

“Tough weekend without a doubt. I put us in a hole during practice, but fortunately we were able to dig ourselves out about halfway through the race and salvage a top 10. I’m so proud of all these Kaulig Racing guys. I can’t put into words how thankful I am for their effort and dedication. We will look forward to better days ahead.” – Daniel Hemric

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Action Industries Chevrolet

Start: 9th

Stage 1 Finish: 8th

Stage 2 Finish: 3rd

Finish: 16th

“We weren’t super happy with the handling of our No. 16 Action Industries Chevy to begin the race, but we just kept making adjustments and had a good tire strategy. We had better tires than Justin (Allgaier), so I just thought I needed to go quickly. When I leaned on him, I knew he was going to lean on me back, so I think it was good, hard racing. It’s unfortunate our tire got cut down, but when you’re banging fenders like that, there’s always that risk. We knew what was on the line, and we did everything we could.” – AJ Allmendinger

Landon Cassill, No. 10 StormX Chevrolet

Start: 16th

Stage 1 Finish: 11th

Stage 2 Finish: 36th

Finish: 37th

“It was just a disappointing day for us in our No. 10 StormX Chevy. I just wheel hopped into turn 3, the same way Daniel (Hemric) did in practice. It was my fault. We had this race circled on our calendars and thought we would be there at the end. Hopefully we can finish out the season strong in Phoenix.” – Landon Cassill
