NAPA extends sponsorship of Hendrick Motorsports and driver Chase Elliott

LAS VEGAS (July 20, 2022) – NAPA has reached a multi-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports that will continue its 26-race majority sponsorship of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion and current points leader Chase Elliott.

The renewal was announced today in Las Vegas during the general session of the 2022 NAPA EXPO, which attracts more than 13,000 vendors, employees, store owners and NAPA AutoCare Center professionals. To share the news, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick and team vice chairman Jeff Gordon joined Marti Walsh, NAPA vice president of marketing, on stage at the Venetian Convention and Expo Center.

“We could not be more excited to extend our relationship with Hendrick Motorsports and Chase Elliott, especially in a year when we are reigniting our brand to meet the demands of the future,” Walsh said. “Hendrick Motorsports and Chase have long been part of the NAPA family and their passion and energy will be an important part of our journey in the years ahead.”

NAPA became Elliott’s primary sponsor in 2014. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has since earned two NASCAR national series championships: the Xfinity Series in 2014 and the Cup Series in 2020. Following his full-time move to the elite Cup level in 2016, the 26-year-old star has won 16 points-paying races, most recently at Atlanta Motor Speedway on July 10.

“None of this is possible without NAPA,” Elliott said. “I’m so thankful for their commitment to our team and their passion for what we do every weekend. I’ve been lucky to meet a lot of great folks from across the country who work for NAPA. All of us are really proud to represent a company that takes care of its employees and its customers and is driven to be successful in every aspect. I’m looking forward to what’s to come and celebrating more wins together.”

After 20 starts in 2022, Elliott sits atop the Cup standings with a series-best three points-paying race wins. The Dawsonville, Georgia, native has clinched his seventh playoff appearance in as many full seasons at NASCAR’s top level, all with crew chief Alan Gustafson. Fans have voted him NASCAR’s most popular driver for four consecutive years (2018-2021).

“We take immense pride in our association with NAPA,” Hendrick said. “When you have a partner that has been so committed to our sport for so many years, it’s incredibly rewarding to see them win races, win championships and experience great success in their business. Chase, Alan and our entire organization are focused on raising the bar and delivering more victories for NAPA in all areas of our relationship.”

EVENT PREVIEW: Wright Motorsports Resumes GT World Challenge Championship Fight at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 20, 2022) – The championship fight for the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS title resumes this weekend at Watkins Glen International and Porsche customer racing team Wright Motorsports is ready to return to Upstate New York for the showdown.

“We’re looking forward to being back in New York for another chance at the top step,” said Team Owner John Wright. “Between our various programs and testing, we’ve spent a good deal of time here and know this place well. It can be a strong track for us, and we hope to make some gains in the championship points this weekend.”

The team’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship effort competed at the 3.45-mile road course just last month, also racing a Porsche 911 GT3 R. This weekend, drivers Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen will contest in their own championship endeavors in the Wright Motorsports No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R, which currently sits second in the Pro/Am category of the championship point standings.

Luck and Heylen started the 2022 season off with a pair of wins but have yet to return to the top step as the series nears the halfway point in the season. They returned to the podium in race one at VIRginia International Raceway, celebrating a second-place finish in front of Luck’s home crowd. The father and son-in-law closed out their most recent race weekend with a fourth-place finish, still acquiring valuable points for the championship.

In 2021, though they ran in separate series at the time, both Luck and Heylen had strong races at Watkins Glen International during the SRO America-sanctioned weekend. Heylen, with co-driver Fred Poordad celebrated a second-place finish in the GT World Challenge doubleheader, while Luck earned first and second-place results during his race weekend.

The Wright Motorsports Porsches have proven to be strong competitors at the flowing circuit, and this year will be no different. Luck and Heylen will contest in both 90-minute races, splitting the drive time for each of the two events. Race one will begin on Saturday, July 23 at 2:15 PM Eastern, and the weekend will conclude with Race two beginning on Sunday, July 24 at 1:15 PM ET. Both races will air live on YouTube.com/GTWorld.

DRIVER QUOTES

Charlie Luck // No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R
I’m super excited about going back to Watkins Glen. This is where I attended my first Formula 1 race in 1974 and have had a love of the track since. After a good test, we are ready to push and bring our best.

Jan Heylen // No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R
We’re ready for another great weekend. The Wright Motorsports team has been hard at work at the shop since the last race and backed it up with a good test last week to find some extra speed in the car. Christian Rose and Team Look to Deliver in Pocono Raceway Debut

LONG POND, Pa: It cannot be argued that Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have experienced their fair share of hardships in the ARCA Menards Series this season, but the team is hoping to leave all their back luck in the rearview mirror and capture their best finish of the season in Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

There’s been little doubt that ARCA Menards Series rookie Christian Rose and his Cook Racing Technologies (CRT) team have showcased speed while competing in all three of ARCA’s national divisions, but Rose is ready to back up that speed with a satisfying finish that will propel him forward during his second half stretch of the 2022 season.

While some of the forks in the road have been eased with a pair of top-10 finishes, Rose is hoping to utilize the summer stretch to deliver his Mooresville, N.C.-based team with some welcomed momentum and consistency aboard his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS.

“I am looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend at Pocono,” said Rose. “We had such a fast car earlier this month in Irwindale but unfortunately got wiped out in an accident which left us with another race where we had speed but the not result to show it.

“Pocono essentially kicks off our second half of the 2022 season and I’m looking forward to using the rest of the races to not only help strengthen build my racing resume but put some results on the board for my Cook Racing Technologies team.

“I know Pocono is going to be a challenge, but it’s a challenge I gladly accept. I can’t wait to get there.” To help prepare Rose for his fourth premier ARCA Menards Series start of the season, he will join his competitors in an open test session at the 2.5-mile triangle where he hopes to perfectly dial in his No. 42 West Virginia Tourism Chevrolet SS ahead of race day.

“I am extremely thankful for any seat time but having an open test day before the day of the race I can only see it being a win-win for us,” added Rose. “It is important for us to make gains with the handling and keep improving our lap times on Thursday and keep heading in the right direction on Friday.

“I think it is going to be a very competitive race, so it’s just crucial to get our team in a good place for qualifying and thrive during the race. A top-10 would be a great effort for my debut at Pocono. A top-five or better would certainly feel like a win.

“Nothing but positive vibes though from myself and our team marching to Pocono and looking ahead.”

Pocono will be the first race for Rose as a husband as he and his girlfriend Brooke tied the knot in western North Carolina two weeks ago.

“Life has been a journey of ups and downs,” sounded Rose. “I had no idea when I moved to Charlotte to

chase my dream the best thing to ever happen to me would be waiting on me.

“Brooke stole my heart on night one and I still get butterflies every time I see her. I’m a lucky guy.”

This season, Rose who will compete in all three of ARCA’s national platforms, the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series East and the ARCA Menards Series West will continue to strengthen a relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism.

The West Virginia Department of Tourism promotes West Virginia as a leading four-season travel destination and a top state to live, work and retire.

Known as the Mountain State, West Virginia is one of the most scenic states in the United States and home to thousands of acres of parks and public lands, including America’s newest national park and 45 state parks and forests.

In addition to its majestic mountains and rolling hills, West Virginia is full of rich historic sites, enchanting art galleries, charming towns and an immense sense of belonging found only in its heaven-like landscapes.

In West Virginia, let country roads lead you far away from everything. And a little closer to heaven.

“My relationship with the West Virginia Department of Tourism is everything to me,” added Rose.

“Without them, I would not be able to race at Pocono. It is my goal throughout the year to spread the mission of everything the West Virginia Department of Tourism means.

“It goes without saying that we have had a lot of speed with our West Virginia Department of Tourism race cars this year and I’m hopeful we can climb that ladder of consistency during the summer stretch.

“We are seeing a great amount of response from the fans about their experience in West Virginia and that’s part of why we are building this program. Pocono is another next in the journey and I look forward to proudly representing my home state and continuing my mission.”

Following Pocono, Rose will head to Ohio where he will attend the Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins baseball game on Monday, July 25, 2022, where Rose a former professional and award-winning college baseball pitcher will throw out the first pitch of the Major League Baseball game.

“I am looking forward to representing the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the ARCA Menards Series and Cook Racing Technologies in Cincinnati next week,” added Rose. “Everyone knows that baseball is my first love and now to combine the two worlds is a dream come true.”

Following Pocono, Rose and CRT plan to compete in the ARCA Menards Series event at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park on July 29.

The General Tire Delivers 200 (80 laps | 200 miles) is the 10th of 20 races on the 2022 ARCA Menards Series schedule. Practice begins on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 2:45 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. A timed General Tire pole qualifying session kicks off from 3:30 to 3:50 p.m. The event will be televised live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1) with the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM channel 391, online channel 981 managing the radio waves beginning at 6:30 p.m. ARCARacing.com will also stream live timing and scoring throughout the entire weekend festivities. Ford Performance NASCAR: Matt McCall Pocono Media Availability

Ford Performance Notes and Quotes
NASCAR Cup Series
Pocono Advance | Wednesday, July 20, 2022

Matt McCall, crew chief for Brad Keselowski on the No. 6 Kohler Generators Ford Mustang, is in his first season with Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. Fresh off a seventh-place finish last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, McCall spoke about the recently-announced Chicago Street Course race and other topics as part of a call with members of the media this morning.

MATT MCCALL, Crew Chief, No. 6 Kohler Generators Ford Mustang – HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOU WITH THE NEW TIRE CONSTRUCTION YOU HAVE STARTING AT POCONO AND HOW IT MIGHT CHANGE THINGS? “I think obviously just the data that we’ll receive and the stuff that they’ve done at the wheel force test. It’s not the exact tire, but similar construction. The left sides, they basically moved the label to the inside, but hopefully I think they’re thinking a little bit of durability help from both sides, just from a pressure standpoint, so I guess we’ll see. I still feel like there’s some pretty big nervousness from the left side durability for this weekend, but they didn’t have any issues at the test from what I understand, so I guess we’ll see when we get there.”

DO YOU FEEL YOUR TEAM MAY HAVE TO WIN TWICE THIS SEASON TO BATTLE FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT WITH 14 DIFFERENT WINNERS THIS SEASON? “Yeah, I would say that’s the way it’s lining up, for sure. Obviously, we need to get the first one and then you would look for the second one. It’s definitely getting tight.”

IS THERE A TRACK COMING UP FOR THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON OUTSIDE OF DAYTONA WHERE YOU COULD HAVE A CHANCE AT WINNING? “Brad is really good at Richmond, so that stands out as being a good track. We were OK for the first race there. We didn’t have a winning car, but had decent speed. We’ve got a little bit of a notebook to go back there, so I would say there and honestly the road courses. We haven’t been able to put all the finishes together, but we’ve been pretty solid so I think either one of those there’s a possibility if the strategy works out and our car is good Brad can make it happen.”

THOUGHTS ON THE CHICAGO STREET COURSE. “I think there’s no negative to change it’s just understanding and adapting to that. I think it’ll be a new adventure and we’re ready for it.”

WHEN DO YOU AS A CREW CHIEF START LOOKING AT THAT RACE AND TRYING TO MAKE PLANS? “I would say it would be later in the year most likely, but probably sooner than what you would normally look at just because it is so different from anything we’ve ran before in this series.”

HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE CORNER TO A NON-TECHNICAL PERSON WITHOUT INVOKING THE WORDS ‘LOW TRANSFER’? “I think the biggest thing with this car anyway, probably the best way to describe entry a lot of times is almost like a hydroplane. You’re not necessarily in full control, so I would say that’s the biggest part with this car – the entry stability seems to be on edge. I would say that’s probably the easiest way to describe that. The middle, it’s the same at every track. You’re turning the wheels to the right on entry, turning back to the left in the middle and then to the right on exit, but I think the easiest thing to describe that is there’s definitely less stability with this car and then less forgiveness when you’re breaking the corners down. The exit seems to be better from the start of the year. All the drivers have learned and figured it out and setup stuff has evolved, but it’s still completely different from the perspective of what we’ve had before is when the rear of the car comes out further than the front, there’s not near the extra side force to help the stability and feel comfortable to keep driving it sideways.”

DO YOU FEEL YOUR TEAM IS MAKING THE PROGRESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE AT THIS POINT IN THE SEASON? “It’s not fast enough because if you’re not winning, you’re not where you want to be, but I feel like we have definitely made some strides. The thing is that everyone else is, too. If you think you’ve gained five or 10 spots, you’ve probably only got a couple because everyone is working all the time to get better. I do feel like we have been able to put together some better cars for Brad to drive as far as overall balance. We still have some work to do to get some more speed out of the cars, but, yes, I feel like we’ve definitely made some small gains.”

HOW HAS THIS FIRST SEASON GONE PAIRED WITH BRAD? DID CHEMISTRY SWAY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER BEFORE OR AFTER THE PENALTY? “Not really. I feel like Brad, honestly, is really easy to work with and he’s working hard all the time trying to get better, no different than we are and I think we all just adapted a little bit slower than we wanted to this car. I feel like now we’ve been a little bit more comfortable unloading at some of the tracks just from a setup standpoint, but I think communication-wise it started off pretty good in the off-season and he’s done a really good job of keeping that communication really high with me and the team. That’s the plus side of it, but obviously we don’t have quite the results that show for that.”

YOU TOLD BRAD TO SHAKE OFF THE AUSTIN DILLON INCIDENT LAST WEEKEND. DO YOU VIEW THAT AS PART OF YOUR ROLE, TRYING TO KEEP THINGS CALM AND STAY FOCUSED ON GETTING A TOP 10? “For sure. That’s a big part of it, communicating with him and T.J. to just make sure we relay the information that the race isn’t over. It’s so easy to be distracted if your day is going OK and we lost a little track position on the two-tire deal, but fortunately you don’t always know what he’s thinking because he’s very good about not speaking out loud, but overall that was the biggest thing was just trying to put us back in a spot to stay focused because he’s obviously really good at Loudon, so we needed to keep trying to march forward.”

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE CHICAGO STREET RACE? “I think that’s intriguing. Anytime there’s change I feel like there’s a chance for opportunity for everyone. A different market. A street course is definitely interesting. I’m curious to see how it all works out for us, but I’m definitely interested to get there.”

HOW MUCH WORK IS DONE FOR THE SETUP FOR THAT RACE? “That will be a big part because it’s substantially different for us in trying to understand with the way this car works and as far as the travels and the types of limitations we have from NASCAR with the internal bumps stops, it’ll definitely turn into trying to understand the track roughness and that type of thing, so a lot of work will go into it trying to maximize performance.”

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS WITH BRAD FOR THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON? “I feel like this weekend we have to keep building on what we’ve been able to do the past couple of weeks. Someone asked earlier about winning two races, I still think we need to win one first and then figure out where we’re at. I think there will be some opportunity there, some strategy for some of these races to get a little bit more aggressive – maybe put us in position and hopefully we can be fast enough where you don’t have to do something like that, but I feel pretty good about it.”

BRAD HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS, BUT HOW MUCH AS THIS BEEN ABOUT BUILDING A RACE TEAM IN YOUR FIRST YEAR TOGETHER? “That’s some of it, for sure. I think we’re fortunate that the team we have is really good, it’s just adapting to all the tools and everything we have to keep trying to maximize what we have. Everytime you go to the track you want to put yourself in position to win, but if you really don’t have that, that’s the hardest thing to go to the track and then feel like, ‘OK, we’re racing for 10th.’ At the same time, that’s what we probably didn’t do there for a few races and got put in a bad spot, so we’re trying to clean that up a little bit and just build on what we have to continue to get better.”

HOW FRUSTRATING HAS IT BEEN TO NOT BE ABLE TO CAPITALIZE ON THOSE RACES WHERE YOUR CAR HAS BEEN GOOD, BUT SOMETHING HAPPENS? “That’s the nature of the business. It goes in cycles. Yes, the frustration levels can get high, but you’ve got to be a realist and understand that you’ve got to keep working and approach next week the best that you can.”

COMING INTO THIS YEAR RFK WANTED TO HAVE A DEDICATED COMPETITION DEPARTMENT. WHAT IS YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON THAT AND HOW HAS IT GONE? “Our structure here is a little bit different than what I was accustomed to. I think there are benefits for sure and I still think it’s trying to put it all together. The toughest thing is that we only have two cars and our notebook build is a little bit smaller than other guys, but then if I use Trackhouse as an example they’re the fastest cars almost every week. We have not been able to maximize as much as what I feel like we should be able to from that side of building our notebook, but it’s slowly but surely getting better for sure.”

YOU HAVE SO MUCH SMT DATA. HOW DO YOU USE THAT DATA IN WORKING WITH YOUR DRIVER? “That’s a good question because the data we do have is a double-edged sword because if there’s a car faster than you, you start analyzing what line they’re running and what their inputs are. The sampling rate we get is still pretty small, but from a driver perspective it gives a good idea if someone is doing something different and with the shifting stuff now it definitely allows you, if someone is using a different gear and they seem to be making lap time, a chance to try that or relay that information, but also, at the same time, the adage used to be the driver would tell you they held it wide-open in qualifying and now they’re much more truthful now when it comes to that information. But it’s a good tool. I think it’s what drives competition because the drivers get out and study that data, trying to get ready, especially with the practice sessions we have. They happen pretty quick and then you line up and go qualify, so just trying to maximize as much as you can to increase performance each time on the track.”

CAN THEY DIGEST THE RAW DATA OR DO YOU HAVE TO TRANSLATE IT FOR THEM? “The visual and just the SMT app itself is pretty nice because it basically has the car on the track. The lines aren’t perfect, but it does overlay the lines to the other cars, so the visual is pretty good but still you definitely try to break it down a little bit to find the right cars and the certain laps you need to be looking at as quick as you can.”

Toyota Racing – Weekly Preview – 07.20.22

This Week in Motorsports: July 18-24, 2022

· NCS/NXS/NCWTS/ARCA: Pocono Raceway – July 22-24
· NHRA: Sonoma Raceway – July 24

PLANO, Texas (July 20, 2022) – It’s a busy weekend at Pocono Raceway for NASCAR and ARCA as fans get to see four races in three days, while the NHRA teams compete in their second stop on the Western Swing at Sonoma Raceway.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCWTS

Bell ready to add more trips to victory lane… Christopher Bell earned his first Cup Series win of the season at one of his favorite tracks – New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday. The Oklahoma-native is effectively locked into the Playoffs as he sits eighth overall. Bell scored his first career Cup Series top-five finish at Pocono Raceway in June 2020.

First two for Denny … Denny Hamlin earned not only his first win at Pocono Raceway – but his first two wins as the then rookie driver swept the events at the track in 2006. He has since added four additional victories at the Pennsylvania-based track (August 2009, June 2010, July 2019, June 2020).

Busch desires repeat victory … Kyle Busch drove to victory at Pocono Raceway last season in a wild set of final laps. This is another stellar track for the two-time Cup Series champion as he has scored four wins in a Camry at Pocono Raceway since 2017.

Gibbs looks to be one spot better… Ty Gibbs came close to earning a victory in his first NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Pocono Raceway last season, finishing in second after leading 11 laps. The four-time victor this season would love nothing more than to add another victory to his tally as he looks to close in on the Xfinity Series overall championship points lead.

Ferrucci back in the Xfinity Series… Santino Ferrucci will make his return to the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the first of back-to-back starts for Sam Hunt Racing in the No. 26 Toyota GR Supra. The former Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year ran seven races for the team one season ago, including the event at Pocono where he earned a top-15 finish.

Toyota looks to set Truck Series record… Matt Crafton, who is currently in the final Playoff spot, looks to help Toyota clinch a Truck Series Playoff record. Since going to the Playoff format in 2016, no OEM has played seven drivers in the Truck Series Playoffs. Toyota already has six drivers locked into the field: John Hunter Nemechek, Chandler Smith, Ben Rhodes, Stewart Friesen, Ty Majeski and Christian Eckes have clinched six Toyota Tundra TRD Pro’s in the field, and if Crafton clinches his spot, Toyota will own the record.

Heim plans to grow Rookie of Year lead… Despite his part-time schedule, Toyota development driver Corey Heim took back the rookie of the year lead for the Truck Series at Mid-Ohio. Heim, who will run the balance of the season, is making his first Truck Series start at Pocono, but did claim victory at Pocono last year in the ARCA Menards Series.

Bodine goes for 800… Todd Bodine plans to make his final NASCAR start this weekend as the multi-time Truck Series champion will reach 800 starts for his NASCAR career. Bodine has one top-10 finish in five starts this season, but has scored 22 wins in his impressive Truck Series career, along with 15 NASCAR Xfinity Series victories.

NHRA – Top Fuel | Funny Car

Langdon on strong run… Shawn Langdon has continued to show improvement with his new crew chief and team as the 2013 Top Fuel Champion has advanced to the final round in two of the last three events (Bristol, Denver).

Sonoma sight of Todd’s first Funny Car win… J.R. Todd has driven to some great memories on NHRA’s Western Swing. In 2017, Todd earned his first Funny Car victory at Sonoma Raceway in just his 15th start in the class. Todd would deliver Toyota its most recent Funny Car title one season later.

Torrence family won the last two races at Sonoma… The Torrence Family has won the last two runnings of the Sonoma Nationals. Billy Torrence earned the Wally in 2019 and his son, Steve Torrence picked up the win last year.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA

Jones returns to ARCA… Toyota full-time Xfinity Series competitor Brandon Jones will get some extra laps on track as he competes in the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday evening. It is Jones’ third ARCA start of the season. The Georgia native has gone two-for-two in his previous starts this year at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and Iowa Speedway in June.

Greg Van Alst and Team Seek Pocono Raceway Redemption

LONG POND, Pa.: Greg Van Alst and his Anderson, Indiana-based ARCA Menards Series team return to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway focused on redemption in Friday’s General Tire Delivers 200.

Last year at the 2.5-mile triangle, Van Alst had hoped to capitalize on a strong day of testing in hopes of making his debut at the “Tricky Triangle” a successful one, however, an accident in practice forced the team to withdraw from the race and sit on the sidelines for the first time in his ARCA career.

Returning to the Long Pond race track nearly a year later, Van Alst is feeling comfortable about his return and eyeing his sixth top-10 of the ARCA Menards Series season Friday night.

“I try not to think about last year at Pocono, because it was such a disappointment for my team,” explained Van Alst. “I have learned a lot about what happened though and have learned even more about myself and being a better ARCA Menards Series driver – so I’m upbeat about returning to Pocono and finishing what we started in 2021.”

After delivering a respectable top-15 finish in his ARCA Menards Series road course debut earlier this month at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Van Alst is ready to return to the oval for the next three weeks and propelling his family-owned team forward and continue his climb in the ARCA Menards Series championship standings.

“I learned a lot at Mid-Ohio, especially about racing in the rain,” recalled Van Alst. “Without a doubt, leaving Mid-Ohio with our race car intact and inhaling a lot of road course experience firsthand will prove to be beneficial for Watkins Glen next month.

“Before Watkins Glen though. We are focused on Pocono.”

Van Alst will join a majority of the ARCA Menards Series competitors for an open test session on Thursday where he hopes to dial in his No. 35 CB Fabricating Ford Fusion in hopes of capturing his second top-five result of 2022.

“Any chance we can take advantage of track time before the actual race weekend begins is a huge benefit,” he added. “I was really happy with the performance of our car during the test last year, but this year we have a similar strategy but also a gameplan to see if we can’t be even faster than we were last summer.

“We ended our five-race consecutive top-10 streak at Mid-Ohio a couple of weeks ago, so I’d like to reset that streak with our best finish of the season on Friday.”

Chris Barkdull’s CB Fabricating, a longtime partner with Greg Van Alst Motorsports has boosted its commitment to the team and will continue its role as the primary marketing partner of Van Alst’s No. 35 Ford Fusion.

“We are reaching the halfway point of the 2022 ARCA Menards Series season and the consistency we have shown over the last two months is the type of pace that will keep Chris and everyone on this team in it for the long haul,” expressed Van Alst. “We have even bigger goals that we’d like to conquer in the second half of the season and I know that keeps Chris and I excited about the path and longevity of our team.

“With every race complete, it’s a small victory for our team knowing the large mountain that is still left to climb. I’m thankful to have the support of Chris and CB Fabricating.”

“Step by step and with a little luck, I hope we will soon find ourselves a part of the championship picture,” sounded Van Alst. “While top-10 finishes are strong efforts for us, we need to be competing for top-five runs on a consistent basis to have any shot at the championship. This is a tough series and we are still proud of where we are at.

“We still stay focused.”

Fast Facts
No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Team:
Driver: Kris Wright
Primary Partner(s): Big Dog Energy
Manufacturer: Chevrolet SS
Crew Chief: Andrew Abbott
Engine: Ilmor Racing Technologies

Notes of Interest:

Welcome Back: Young’s Motorsports welcomes back Kris Wright to the organization. Wright returns to the Mooresville, N.C.-team after competing for the team in the majority of the 2021 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule aboard the team’s flagship No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado.

Friday evening’s General Tire Delivers 200 at Pocono Raceway is Wright’s ARCA Menards Series debut with the family-owned organization.

Glad To Have You: Big Dog Energy will support Wright’s ARCA Menards Series efforts this weekend at Pocono Raceway.

Founded in 2019, Big Dog Energy, a family-owned natural gas company headquartered in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area has partnered with Kris Wright for multiple ARCA and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events this season.

For more information on Big Dog Energy LLC., headquartered in Wexford, Pa., visit Instagram (@bigdogenergyllc).

Driver Intel: Road racing standout Kris Wright continues his sophomore season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2022 after competing in 16 races for Young’s Motorsports in 2021.

The former IMSA and Formula 3 driver invaded the Truck Series scene after spending much of the 2020 season competing in the ARCA Menards Series competing for Chad Bryant Racing and GMS Racing, respectively.

In addition to Trucks, Wright continued to pad his racing resume by competing in five ARCA races in 2021 for Rette Jones Racing and delivering three top-10 finishes along the way.

This season, he has competed full-time in the Truck Series aboard the No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado RST, while also making his return to ARCA in the most recent race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course earlier this month.

Double Duty: In addition to Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200, Wright will make his 17th Truck Series start of the season in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series CRC Brakleen 150.

Testing, Testing 1.2.3: To prepare him for a very busy weekend in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, Wright will join his Young’s Motorsports team for a five-hour open ARCA Menards Series test session at the 2.5-mile three-turn track on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

Kris Wright Truck Series Pocono Raceway ARCA Stats: Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 200 will mark Wright’s second ARCA start at the 2.5-mile triangle.

Last year, Wright battled mechanical gremlins during the General Tire #AnyWhereIsPossible 200 that resulted in a 24th place finish after a rear-gear failure.

Wright also has one Truck Series start to his credit at the track dubbed the “Tricky Triangle.”

Calling The Shots: Guiding Wright as crew chief of the No. 02 Big Dog Energy Chevrolet is veteran crew chief Andrew Abbott.

Abbott returns to the Young’s Motorsports team after serving as crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Sam Hunt Racing.

With 190 combined starts as crew chief in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and Xfinity Series, Abbott has five top-five and 18 top-10 finishes, including a top-five finish most recently at Richmond (Va.) Raceway with John Hunter Nemechek in September 2021.

Pocono Raceway will officially mark Abbott’s sixth career race under the ARCA banner.

Young’s Motorsports ARCA Program: A staple in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Mooresville, N.C.-based Young’s Motorsports will begin its second season of ARCA competition in 2022.

Last year, the organization expanded its platform to include the NASCAR-owned ARCA Menards Series.

Throughout the premier ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East seasons, Young’s Motorsports has participated in 16 races overall with a best finish of second at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway with rookie driver Leland Honeyman Jr. after earning the General Tire pole award.

Honeyman also delivered the team a top-five effort in the 2022 ARCA East season-opener at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway in February 2022.

The team also earned a top-10 in their ARCA East debut at Dover (Del.) International Speedway with driver Connor Mosack in 2021.

In all, Young’s Motorsports has delivered one pole, three top-five, six top-10s, nine top-15s and 15 top-20 finishes.

Trois-Rivieres (Québec, Canada), July 20, 2022. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin and the Dumoulin Competition team are ready for the annual Western swing of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. After a two-year absence due to the pandemic, the drivers will head back to Edmonton International Raceway in Alberta on July 23rd and then to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on the following Wednesday.

For Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, this is a much-anticipated trip as he is particularly fond of this region. “We love going out West, the people are very welcoming and it’s a special time for the crew,” said the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car. “The team has worked very hard all year and we have great setups that keep us competitive at every track so far this season.”

The western swing is always a busy one for the teams, as the first 300-lap event takes place on a Saturday night in Wetaskiwin, 50 km from Edmonton, followed by two 150-lap races in Saskatoon on the next Wednesday. “It’s three oval races in a very short period. The goal of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare team is to score as many points as possible towards the championship and come back East in a stronger position.”

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin went on to say, “Edmonton is a very short track that makes for some close racing. It is imperative to be in the lead group throughout the event because the laps run down quickly, leaving little time to mount your attacks on the cars ahead of you. In 2019, the Trois-Rivières native was at the front of the field and finished third. Happy with that result, he could, however, have fought for the victory if it had not been for the rain that came along late in the race. Louis-Philippe is aiming at more podium finishes this year.

The ¼ mile Edmonton track will host the BAYER 300, a 300-lap event with a 5-minute break on lap 150. The race will start at 7:30 PM (local time), 9:30 PM (ET).

Driver Quotes

“Pocono was the first track I raced at after turning 18 and joining the Xfinity Series. I thought it went all right but it definitely could have been better. I’ve gone back to watch some film and I’m ready for this weekend. I’m looking forward to hopefully having this Accelerate Professional Talent Solutions Chevrolet battling for a win when it comes down to it. We have to turn our luck around and that starts this weekend.” – Sam Mayer

“We’ve had some solid runs at Pocono over the last couple of years and I see no reason why we can’t have that same kind of speed again this weekend when we unload with our Hellmann’s Chevrolet. Pocono is definitely a place that I have always enjoyed coming to, especially with how different each of the three corners are. Hopefully we can have another strong day on Saturday and be in contention for the win. We are ready to get there and see what we can do.” – Justin Allgaier

“Pocono is a track that I really like racing on. I took to it pretty quickly last season and I can’t wait to get back there with this Tire Pros team. They’ve been building fast cars each week and we’ve been in the sim making sure I am ready for when we hit the track. It’s time to turn this momentum back around and start gearing up for a run towards the playoffs.” – Josh Berry

“This Bass Pro Shops/TrueTimber/Black Rifle Coffee Chevrolet has been fast at Pocono and we’ve finished well there, too. It’s a unique challenge, with the three different corners, but Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and the No. 9 team have been up to the challenge all year long. It’s go-time now, because the playoffs aren’t that far away, and Pocono is a good place to get the push started.”– Noah Gragson

Max Gutiérrez Returns to AM Racing at Pocono Raceway

LONG POND, Pa.: On the heels of a stunning top-10 finish in his most recent NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway last month, former NASCAR Mexico Challenge Series champion Max Gutiérrez returns to AM Racing hoping for more success in Saturday afternoon’s CRC Brakleen 150 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway.

Set for a limited Truck Series schedule this season, Gutiérrez is primed and ready to take advantage of the next opportunity that awaits him which is the tough and demanding 2.5-mile triangle of Pocono Raceway.

“I’m very excited to get back to racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and tackle Pocono Raceway with my AM Racing team,” said Gutiérrez.

“There are no words to explain what the performance did for me at Nashville Superspeedway from a confidence standpoint, but when the engines come to life on Saturday at Pocono, the success at Nashville is a statement of the past and it is time to show that what we are capable of once again.”

While the layout of Nashville and Pocono could not be farther apart, Gutiérrez is relying on the experience of his AM Racing team to help him ease into his comfort zone from practice to qualifying and then the 60-lap race.

“I’m heading to Pocono with a very open mind,” added Gutiérrez. “The track is insanely different from anything I’ve experienced before and with a short practice session, there isn’t a whole lot of time to get comfortable.

“I have been doing what I can to adequately prepare myself and hope that we can make gains throughout the weekend that will allow us to be in contention for a good finish once again.”

Gutiérrez’s third Truck Series start of 2022 will be supported by a roster of his longtime supporters not only in ARCA competition but throughout his racing career in his homeland of Mexico.

Returning at Pocono, Inspectra Thermal Solutions Inc., (ITS) a leading thermal imaging company will serve as the primary marketing partner of the No. 22 Chevrolet Silverado RST, while additional support pours in from TOUGHBUILT, Bolsa DX, GoGig, Teknekk and Telmex.
