TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY
GEICO 500
TEAM CHEVY PRESS CONF. TRANSCRIPT
APRIL 23, 2022

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1, met with the media in advance of this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Press Conference Transcript:

WHEN WE WERE IN ATLANTA WE HEARD A LOT ABOUT DRAFTING THERE AND IT WAS LIKE A SUPERSPEEDWAY. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU LEARNED THERE THAT YOU CAN APPLY HERE? DOES ANYTHING CARRY OVER?
“I think, I mean Atlanta was just more intense than here I would say just in the fact that it was really narrow, and you had a lot of things going on fast. The corner exits would come up fast. Guys would merge off the bottom and it was harder to hold the bottom. It was harder to predict where guys were going to end up on corner exit. I think my general thoughts about here is I think you’re going to see some tandem for half a lap or three quarters: maybe a full lap. I think that’s going to be the difference here is handling is not as big of a deal and you might see that play out more.”

A FEW YEARS AGO WE WERE AT DAYTONA AND YOU AND BRAD (KESELOWSKI) HAD A DISSAGREEMENT OVER BLOCKING AND DRAFTING. HOW HAS YOUR CONFIDENCE IN THE DRAFT GONE AND YOUR MOVES THAT YOU MAKE AND KNOWING WHEN TO BLOCK? HOW HAS THAT CHANGED OVER THE YEARS, HOW MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE ARE YOU NOW GOING INTO SUPERSPEEDWAYS?
“I think knowing what I need, what I need to do. When that deal happened with Brad (Keselowski) I was in my second year and I was fast on the superspeedways, but I wasn’t making all the right moves. I thought I was making the right amount of right moves. It was a good learning experience and Brad (Keselowski) is always good at these tracks and I feel like we are always usually around each other at these tracks. I think it’s just experience like you just get with your spotter and understand what moves are going to happen. As much as the rule’s packages do change the drafting a little bit, it’s nothing I feel like is massive. If anything, probably my rookie year was the weirdest package because we had lower downforce and there was a big bubble behind the car so you could basically lead the whole race which we saw with Stewart Haas the one time. I think now there’s so many comers and goers that you just have to learn throughout the race and get better.”

YOU GUYS WERE AT MARTINSVILLE, YOU GO TO BRISTOL AND NOW HERE. CAN YOU JUST GIVE ME A SENSE OF THE CHALLENGES FOR A DRIVER THE LAST THREE WEEKS AT THESE THREE PARTICULAR TRACKS? IT WOULD SEEM TO BE AMONG THE MORE CHALLENGING STRETCHES FOR YOU GUYS.
“It’s probably among the more unpredictable stretches of the season for sure. You know Martinsville was great for us, obviously. Bristol was not great. I was under the weather all weekend and I don’t have a ton of dirt experience, so that one’s kind of a wildcard for us. I think for this weekend a little bit back to normal. This is an important race in the fall. We can talk about how you just kind of don’t know where you are going to finish here, but this is the race last year that knocked us out of contention. So, I feel like we want to do well this weekend for that reason, to be able to be ready for the fall and know what we need to do. Once we get into Dover and then Darlington, I think it will kind of be back to a little bit of normalcy.”

GIVEN THE NEW CAR, HOW COMFORTABLE ARE YOU WITH NOT HAVING PRACTICE AT TALLADEGA?
“I mean it would be pointless to have practice. There’s literally nothing that we do here that would relate in practice. You’re basically just wearing off the underside of the car for a couple of laps. I always thought practice was really difficult here to get a feel for what you are going to need in the race. I would like to do some procedural things like hot pit entries and exits, but I think this is a good format for sure.”

INITIALLY THERE WAS TALK ABOUT HEAT IN THE CAR WITH THE NEXT GEN CAR. IT’S GOING TO BE HOT THIS WEEKEND. WHAT ABOUT THE CAR ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT AS YOU ROLL INTO THE RACE THIS WEEKEND?
“We’ve been working through a couple of different things. One of them was carbon monoxide intake and how the fumes that were coming in the car were affecting me at COTA. Just trying to work on where the helmet was mounted, where the fan was mounted to go into my head. At COTA I got a little bit of a headache, so I think that has been pretty common throughout the field just trying to figure out air intake stuff to make sure we don’t have issues. As far as the heat goes it’s been great. I’d say it is probably similar to the old car, that’s all we wanted. In pre-season testing it was really hot and pretty unbearable. I think they’ve gotten it now where it’s similar to the old car, it’s just about the fumes.”

DO YOU KIND OF FEEL LIKE YOU KNOW HOW THIS CAR WILL HANDLE HERE?
“I think the little bit that I did race the DAYTONA 500, I think I was 60 laps in, I felt like the car handled better than the old car. It accepted the pushes better than the old car too. Both things were good for competition because you could just be aggressive with pushes. That was probably the most aggressive 500 that we’ve seen with pushing. I think that had a lot to do with the car.”

WILLIAM, NOT A NASCAR QUESTION FOR A SECOND HERE. WE ONLY HAVE A WEEK LEFT UNTIL THE NFL DRAFT. YOU’VE BEEN PRETTY KEEN ON THE MALIK WILLIS TO THE PANTHERS. HAS ANYTHING CHANGED SINCE THEN?
“Yeah, I would love that. That makes the most sense for Liberty (University) as a whole. I would love it. I think Malik is a great talent. I’ve watched him play in person, watched him play a couple of games up there over the last few years and feel like he was well coached up there with Hugh Freeze. That would be a really cool pic. I don’t know what they are going to do. I try to follow it. It looks like the Hornets fired their coach, so I don’t know. Hopefully we just get it all turned around. It’s been a rough few years in the Charlotte sports, but hopefully we can get it rolling here soon.”

IS THERE ANY SITUATION WHERE YOU WOULD BE OK WITH THEM NOT TAKING A QUARTERBACK AT SIX?
“We need a lot of pieces. I mean, I’d look at offensive line but that’s always a boring pick to take in the draft. It’s important. They did get a couple of free agent offensive lineman that I think will be good. A guy from the Rams I think, so yeah I think they need pieces but quarterback is probably the easiest fix first.”

BACK AT DAYTONA, THE FORDS WERE MOST ORGANIZED FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK. DO YOU THINK CHEVY HAS CAUGHT UP TO WHAT THEY WERE DOING?
“We’ll just have to wait and see. I think it’s not for lack of effort for sure. I think there’s some really aggressive Chevy drivers when you look at (Tyler) Reddick and Ross (Chastain) and Chase (Elliott). I think there’s some really good drafters that we can work with. I felt Erik Jones too has been great at the speedways. I felt like at Atlanta we were better. We were improved. That’s probably the closest thing to this weekend. I know those guys can tandem really well, even at Atlanta for a lap of so they could stay connected and that’s something that we have to work on. I don’t know if that will be different, but I think we’ve got the aggressive guys to push each other as much as we need to.”

I HAD WATCHED YOUR PRESS CONFERENCE AFTER MARTINSVILLE AND YOU SPOKE ABOUT HOW JEFF GORDON HAD GIVEN YOU ADVICE ABOUT HOW TO GET AROUND THE TRACK. DO Y’ALL STILL TALK ON A WEEK TO WEEK BASIS ABOUT ADVICE LIKE THAT?
“Yeah, I’d say all the time. I usually fly with him at some point every couple of weeks. It just works out that way. You know he comes to quite a few races now, so I try to get advice from him that’s going to pay off. He’s pretty direct with his advice and he’s good with the crew chiefs too. I’ve noticed at times he’ll be talking to Rudy (Fugle) on his own that isn’t with me. It’s good to kind of get his opinion as a driver too. I think there’s things that Rudy (Fugle) can use from him to set up the car that might help at certain tracks. I’m very confident in the feels that I have at tracks I have run well, but there’s a few tracks that I haven’t run as well that maybe Jeff (Gordon) can be good advice for the crew chief as well.”

HAVE YOU PLAYED ANY IRACING THIS WEEK AND HOW ACCURACTE DO YOU FEEL LIKE THEIR DRAFT MODEL IS GOING TO BE TO WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE ON SUNDAY?
“Yeah, from what I’ve watched it looks really similar. With my guys that race in the Coke Series over there, I’ve kind of learned from them some little bits of advice. No, I haven’t been able to race on there this week. I was gone in Orlando, so I haven’t been able to. Hopefully I remember what I’m doing when I get out there, I guess lap one.”

WE ARE 1/3 OF THE WAY THROUGH THE SEASON, SO AT THIS POINT WITH THE NEXT GEN CAR HOW MUCH DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE HAVING TO RE-LEARN TRACKS OR RE-LEARN SPECIFIC STYLES OF RACING ON A WEEKLY BASIS WITH THIS CAR?
“I’d say every week is a new week. It really is. We look at our old notes for balance and things like that, but even that’s kind of changed. I think Dover’s going to be eye opening to see how this car gets around Dover, because you know it has way less downforce. Downforce is key at Dover. I’m very interested to see how that feels and how that plays out, because I don’t know what to expect. Darlington it sounds like is really difficult with this car. Lots of spins and wall contact just by yourself, so I am sure you guys will see a great race the next few weeks.”

In 2022, superspeedway qualifying for the NXS would consist of a two rounds of single car single lap qualifying with the 10 fastest cars in Round 1 moving on to Round 2 to determine the starting order of the Top-10. Rolling off 23rd in Round 1, Snider would complete a lap of 53.628 at 178.563 ranking 31st overall in Round 1 failing to qualify for Round 2. After the completion of qualifying the Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport TaxSlayer Chevrolet No. 31 will start 31st on the inside of row 16 for Saturday’s Ag-Pro 300.

– Talladega Superspeedway Stats; Saturday’s NXS Ag-Pro 300 will mark Snider’s fifth NXS start at Talladega Superspeedway. In April of 2020, Snider would make his NXS debut at the 2.66-mile Alabama superspeedway earning himself a 27rd place finish after lagging towards the back of the field majority of the race and would fall victim to getting caught up in an accident caused by someone else getting inpatient at the front. The Fall race of 2020 would see Snider see much of the same happen as he would run mid-pack the entire race until a spinning car coming up track on the final lap would end his day resulting in 26th place finish. 2021, would see Snider move to a new team and put himself in contention in the Spring race running inside the Top-10 the entire race having a shot to win on the final lap running in fifth when the caution flag would come out. Reverting back to the previous timing loop Snider would be scored in the 9th position in the final run down. The Fall race of 2021 would see Snider running up front the entire race before getting caught up in the big one with 26 to go resulting in a disappointing 31st place finish after having a fast car all day. In four starts at Talladega Superspeedway Snider holds an average finish of 23.3. Snider has also made two starts in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in 2017 & 2018 earning himself a second and third place finish holding an average finish of 2.5.

SS Greenlight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt | NASCAR Xfinity Series
Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway | Ag-Pro 300

Fast Facts
No. 07 SS GreenLight Racing Team:
Driver: Joe Graf Jr. (@JoeGrafJr)
Primary Partner(s): Bucked Up Strawberry Kiwi Energy Drink
Manufacturer: Ford Mustang
Crew Chief: Joe Williams
Spotter: TJ Bell
2022 Driver Points Position: 29th | 2022 Owner Points Position: 20th
Engine: Roush Yates Engines (RYE)

Notes of Interest:

Full of Energy: Bucked Up Energy Drink and its sister products will continue their role as the primary partner of Graf’s No. 07 Ford Mustang this weekend.

Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway is the seventh race of 2022 but is the 38th race overall in a multi-year, multi-race deal with the former ARCA Menards Series winner.

For the second time this year, the team will promote Bucked Up Energy’s Strawberry Kiwi flavor.

Inspired by nuclear fusion, Bucked Up Strawberry Kiwi is an unparalleled source of energy and refreshment. We won’t get deep into the science, but in nuclear fusion, you get energy when two atoms join together to form one — the same reaction that powers the sun.

Conceptually, harnessing nuclear fusion in a reactor is a no-brainer. Except scientists have yet to concoct a controllable, non-destructive way of doing it. But we’re not scientists. We don’t think in reactors. We think in cans and flavors.

With Bucked Up Energy Strawberry-Kiwi, we fused two delicious flavors to form one. The result — a zero sugar, solar-sweet source of energy so abundant the world might actually start revolving around you.

About Bucked Up Energy: Bucked Up started in 2013 when twin brothers Ryan and Jeff Gardner started marketing a product called Deer Antler Spray. After selling thousands of bottles to GNCs nationwide, the company morphed into what is now Bucked Up, a full-fledged vitamins and supplements manufacturer.

The company has gone from its humble beginnings to becoming the No. 1 best-selling pre-workout brand that’s available in over 10,000 stores worldwide.

Plenty Of Other Bucked Up Energy Drinks Options Available Too: Bucked Up Energy
now offers more than 10 quenching options, but two of their popular flavors, Pink Lemonade and Mango Tango now include low-stim options.

Low-stim has the same innovative ingredients that make their OG formula so powerful for focus, mood, motivation and energy. Bucked Up made just one small change and they have been surprised by the resulting epicness.

Boasting a modest of 100mg of caffeine, Bucked Up Low-Stim delivers the same energy, focus, mood, motivation – while reducing the common side effects that come from too much caffeine, jitters, sleeplessness and anxiety.

Xfinity Memories: Joe Graf Jr.’s return to Talladega Superspeedway this weekend is meaningful. In last October’s Ag-Pro 300 Xfinity Series race, he rallied from a 40th place starting position to earn his first career top-10 finish aboard the No. 07 G-Coin car.

The 10th place finish is Graf’s current career-best effort in Xfinity Series competition.

Throwback Alert: Joe Graf Jr. and the SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team will be participating in this year’s annual throwback weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

The team will unveil their paint scheme in the coming days. Last spring, Graf showcased a “Back to the Future” throwback capturing the attention of the garage and race fans alike for the team’s attention to detail highlighting the 1980s blockbuster film.

Settling In: Talladega marks the ninth race that the SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt (SSGLRwJL) team embraces their manufacturer switch from Chevrolet to Ford while incorporating its technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing.

SHR will supply the organization with race cars while Roush Yates Engines will provide the legendary Ford horsepower. In addition to providing race cars to SSGLRwJL, SHR will also provide technical support for the entire 33-race season.

Additionally, Graf will have NASCAR Cup Series and Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Cole Custer and Chase Briscoe as teammates for select events throughout the 2022 season.

Don’t Forget The New Partner Too: SS GreenLight Racing has added Jeff Lefcourt as a new co-owner of the Mooresville, N.C.-based team, as well as director of business development for the organization.

Lefcourt, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. joins SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt (SSGLRwJL) with a long history of racing endeavors including owning Bethel (N.Y.) Motor Speedway in upstate New York, a current-NASCAR sanctioned race track.

The noted philanthropist, entrepreneur and real estate developer has deep ties to grassroots racing and was instrumental in helping secure the Stewart-Haas Racing alliance with SSGLRwJL in 2022.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Talladega Superspeedway Starts: Joe Graf Jr. will make his fifth NASCAR Xfinity Series start at the 2.66-mile superspeedway on Saturday afternoon. The No. 07 SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team will hunt their first top-10 finish of the season.

Joe Graf Jr. Xfinity Series Career Superspeedway Nuggets: In 10 career NASCAR Xfinity Series Superspeedway races, has completed 823 of the 1,798 laps available. He holds an average starting position of 24.2 and an average result of 27.9 with a best finish of 10th at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October 2021.

Joe Graf Jr. ARCA Menards Series Career Superspeedway Nuggets: In three career ARCA superspeedway track races, Graf Jr. has two top-10 finishes. He has been running at the finish of all three races. He holds an average starting position of 15.3 and an average result of 11th with three (3) laps led.

In 2018, Graf Jr. was involved in the closest finish in ARCA Menards Series history at Talladega Superspeedway in a photo finish.

The margin was so narrow in the 69-year history of the series, it was a statistical dead heat, the margin of victory on the computerized scoring monitors showing 0.00 seconds. Only a video replay and the photo finish camera were able to determine Graf finished second by a matter of millimeters.

Martinsville (Va.) Speedway | Call 811 Before You Dig 250 Race Recap: In the most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Graf and the SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team showcased the No. 07 Bucked Up LFG Burn Ford Mustang under the lights.

After successfully qualifying for the race on their time trials speed, Graf was involved in an on-track incident that damaged the front end of his race car and altered the handling.
Graf was able to manhandle his automobile to a 26th-place finish.

School In Session: While juggling a full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule with SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt, college life has resumed for Joe Graf Jr.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Graf Jr. has resorted to online classes at the University of New York, where he is pursuing a degree in business, media and sports management.

Sneaker Mania: Along with the adrenaline of the Motorsports competition, Joe Graf Jr. also has a vogue for hype sneakers. In his current collection, he owns and wears at least 90 limited edition sneakers – and his collection continues to grow every month.

The current estimated value of his collection tops $100,000.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Joe Williams is Joe Graf Jr.’s crew chief.

He will crew chief his 74th NASCAR Xfinity Series race as crew chief on Saturday afternoon and his fifth at the 2.66-mile superspeedway.

In his previous 73 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected one win (Auto Club Speedway | February 2022), six top-five and 17 top-10 finishes.

Hello From The Other Side: Graf Jr. has a teammate at SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt. Veteran David Starr will drive the No. 08 TicketSmarter Ford Mustang on Saturday afternoon for his fourth start of the 2022 season.

Starr is set to make his 238th career NASCAR Xfinity Series start and 10th at Talladega. His best Xfinity track finish occurred in the 2014 Aaron’s 312, where he finished ninth after starting 16th for TriStar Motorsports.

Joe Graf Jr. Pre-Race Quotes:

On Talladega Superspeedway: “After our top-10 finish at Talladega Superspeedway last year, I’m eager to get back to the track this weekend and better our performance with our No. 07 Bucked Up Strawberry Kiwi Energy Drink Ford Mustang.

“Joe, Jeff and the entire SS GreenLight Racing with Jeff Lefcourt team have been working hard on this superspeedway car to get it ready for action on Saturday.

“We don’t have practice this weekend, so we have just one lap on Friday afternoon to turn a good lap and then focus on the race. We showcased a lot of speed with this same car at Daytona but had a mechanical failure and didn’t have an opportunity to prove just how fast it was.

“Hopefully, we can on Saturday. Talladega is a special place and I’ve made history there but I’d like to make some new history of my own this weekend.”

On 2022 Season: “There is a lot to be proud about in 2022, but there is just as much work to be done. Without question, I think we have proven that we have speed in our race cars, we just haven’t been able to execute on the finishing positions for one reason or another.

“Talladega though is a new race and a new opportunity and I will do everything I can behind the wheel to make sure we execute the best race possible.”

Race Information:

The Ag-Pro 300 (113 laps | 300.58 miles) is the ninth of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series races on the 2022 schedule. The 38-car field will take the green flag on Saturday, April 23 shortly after 3:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90. All times are local (CT).

Jeffrey Earnhardt claims first Xfinity Series pole at Talladega

Photo by Tammy Rae Benscoter for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Jeffrey Earnhardt made the most of his opportunity at Talladega Superspeedway Friday evening as he outpaced the field with a 182.50 mph lap to win the pole for the upcoming NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

It was his first Xfinity Series pole in 136 starts. What made it even more special was doing so while driving the black No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing which was made famous by his grandfather, Dale Earnhardt.

The Earnhardt name has long been synonymous with Talladega Superspeedway. Dale Earnhardt, a seven-time Cup Series champion, holds the title for the most wins (10) at the 2.66-mile track in what has become known as “Earnhardt Country.

“This is unbelievable, man,” Jeffrey said after qualifying. “It’s been a dream of mine for years to get an opportunity.

“All the guys at RCR, man, this is more them than it is me. All I gotta do is hold a pretty wheel. They’ve proved time and time again that they bring fast cars here to superspeedways.”

A familiar face will be calling the shots during the race as Larry McReynolds, currently a broadcaster for FOX Sports, will be his crew chief. McReynolds has 23 Cup Series wins to his credit, most memorably, the 1998 Daytona 500 victory with Dale Earnhardt.

Earnhardt has 135 Xfinity Series starts with his best finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2019 where he finished third driving for Joe Gibbs Racing.

When announcing the news that Earnhardt would be in the No. 3 at Talladega, Richard Childress said, “It’s great to have an Earnhardt back in one of our cars. We think Jeffrey is a talented young driver and I’m confident he will run well at Talladega.”

If Friday’s qualifying session was any indication, Earnhardt fans may be in for a treat Saturday when the Xfinity Series takes to the track for the Ag-Pro 300.

“Someone pinch me because I’m ready to wake up,” Jeffrey said, “but I guess I’ll wait ’til after we’re parked in Victory Lane before I decide to wake up.”

Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo Stable Chomping at the Bit to Start the 2022 Season Next Weekend

Brownsburg, Ind. (April 22, 2022) — The Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing stable is eager to begin the 2022 Lamborghini Super Trofeo season with a strong core of returning drivers and a few new and exciting faces. Four out of the team’s five cars, spanning three classes, will be competing at the season opening doubleheader at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Driver of the No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST EVO2, Jordan Missig, and driver of the No. 10 No. 10 DEX Imaging with Wayne Taylor Racing, Graham Doyle will miss the first event of the season due to conflicts but will join the team’s stable at the second event of the year at Ozark International Raceway next month.

Kyle Marcelli and Daniel Formal captured one of their three wins of the 2021 season at Laguna Seca last year and aim to begin their 2022 title challenge on the right foot in the new-look No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST EVO2.

Veteran sports car driver and LST newcomer Tom Long will partner Ashton Harrison in the No. 25 Harrison Contracting Company with Wayne Taylor Racing LST EVO2. Harrison and Long have their eyes set on the PRO|AM title. The pair have a historically successful working relationship, with Long coaching Harrison through every step of her career for the past ten years.

Long and Harrison won’t be the only WTR drivers aiming for success in the PRO|AM category, with talented young driver Aidan Yoder entering the LST ranks alongside WTR returnee, Jordan Missig, in the No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST EVO2. However, Missig, a driver competing in multiple series, has a schedule conflict for the opening round, affording Yoder the opportunity to make his debut as a solo driver in the AM class.

Randy Sellari, the 2020 Lamborghini Super Trofeo LB Cup champion, returns to WTR for his second consecutive year contesting the AM class in the No. 3 JG Wentworth with Wayne Taylor Racing LST EVO2.

Practice for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America drivers begins next Friday, April 29th, at 12:25 p.m. ET. Race 1 is set for Saturday at 4:50 p.m. ET with Race 2 scheduled for Sunday at 12:40 p.m. ET. All race coverage will be available on IMSA.TV.

Kyle Marcelli, No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST (PRO)
“I’m really excited to be back for year two in the No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing car with Danny Formal. In motorsport, consistency is everything—continuity amongst the group. Not often are you fortunate enough to work with the best, let alone do it year-after-year. I’m happy to be back, and I have all the confidence in the world in the team and our equipment. It’s a brand-new chassis for the No. 1, and there have been some aerodynamic upgrades and other upgrades to the new Super Trofeo EVO2 cars—new brakes, bigger rotors and master cylinder. It’s a lot of new with what should be the same car. I’m really excited for the challenge and the opportunity. We won at Laguna Seca last year, so we’ve got a pretty good baseline setup that we’ll start the weekend with and hopefully won’t wander too far from it. It’s important to start the year off on a high. It always makes life a lot easier when you can come out of the gate with a win and control the championship from the leading position. That’s our mindset. That’s our goal. Last year we had three wins and six podiums. This year we have a championship mindset. That’s our goal and expectation.”

Daniel Formal, No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing LST (PRO)
“I’m super excited to be back in the No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing car. We’re aiming for the PRO championship this year. I got a year under my belt with the team and with Kyle as a teammate last year, and I think we did great at the end of the year. I can’t wait for Laguna Seca. We had one of our best showings there last year. The track is very fun, very technical, and very hard on tires. Kyle and I tried to save our tires as much as we could last year and that’s our number one strategy—to be nice on the tires and try and qualify as high as we can, because passing there is difficult. I’m eager for the 2022 season to start. Laguna Seca is first, one of my favorite races of the year, and I couldn’t be more excited.”

Ashton Harrison, No. 25 Harrison Contracting with Wayne Taylor Racing LST (PRO|AM)
“This marks my fourth season with Wayne Taylor Racing and I’m really excited to get 2022 underway with my teammate Tom Long. I’ve been in the PRO|AM class in the past, and I’m looking forward to rejoining that class. We’ve had some seat time, albeit not in a Lamborghini, where we’ve been able to practice many things leading up to this event. Opening at Laguna Seca is always a good start to the season. It’s a beautiful racetrack, a challenging surface at times, and the weather is always really nice. I’m excited to get back in the groove with the Lamborghini again and finish off the year strong. Our goal is to win a championship and we’ve had really close calls over the past couple of years. We’re putting everything together for this season and working with Wayne Taylor Racing on the driver development side, I feel like I’ve grown a lot. I’m looking forward to putting all of that to use, especially on the heels of the Twelve Hours of Sebring and our first weekend in SRO. The rest of April should be good and I’m eager to start the season.”

Tom Long, No. 25 Harrison Contracting with Wayne Taylor Racing LST (PRO|AM)
“Laguna Seca is one of my favorite tracks, as not only does it have some of the most iconic corners and landscape in motorsports, but it’s extremely challenging due to the low grip levels the sandy surface produces. Historically, I’ve been fortunate to have had a tremendous amount of success over the years at Laguna Seca, lots of fond winning memories in a variety of cars in IMSA competition, and I hope this coming weekend is no different.

I’m thrilled to be sharing the car with Ashton and driving for Wayne Taylor Racing, and feel our chances are very strong for a competitive effort with all the success both the team and Ashton have with this Lamborghini Super Trofeo platform. Personally, it’s quite new to me, but between great teammates and a good track record at Laguna, I’m confident we’ll have a bid for success.”

Jordan Missig, No. 53 Wayne Taylor Racing (PRO|AM) [Not competing this weekend due to schedule conflict.]
“Having Aidan come on board as a new teammate with me for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series is very exciting. I get to work with someone new alongside me as a co-driver and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how that aspect plays out—how working with another driver in relation to the same car works out for me. I have a year under my belt working by myself. It was different because I was playing my own game. Now we have to work together and strive for the same goals. Going into this season, we’re looking to be very competitive, especially towards the front, whether it’s in PRO|AM, or even in PRO. I’m really looking forward to the competition that we’re going to be up against. My first event will not be at Laguna Seca, it will be at the Ozarks, which I’m very excited for. It’s an interesting track and we’ve already been discussing our expectations. Luckily, we may get to do some testing there, but Ozarks is a tricky track. The walls are going to be close and there’s not a lot of run off. I’m interested to see how the car handles with all the elevation changes, blind corners, and with how much horsepower the Lamborghini offers.”

Aidan Yoder, No. 53 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing (AM) [This weekend only, PRO|AM for rest of season.]
“I’m more than excited to get going this season. My last race of last season was in the first week of December so the offseason has been long enough. I can’t wait to get back in the car. This is a huge step up for me, the biggest I’ve taken in my career. With all the new things going on with a big team, a big car and a new teammate, I’m focused on learning as much as I can this season. I’m taking in as much info as possible and that’s why I’m excited to partner with Jordan Missig. It’s really helpful for me to have a co-driver to bounce info and data off of throughout the season while I’m honing my craft with this new car. I’ve only been to Laguna Seca once, and it’ll be a big weekend there with IMSA and a bunch of different series so the track is going to have lots of rubber. It’s going to be a great race with a full grid so I’m more than excited and ready to go.”

Notes of Interest

Wendy’s® (Nasdaq: WEN) has joined Beard Motorsports and driver Noah Gragson as its primary partner for the GEICO 500 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Fresh off an impressive activation on the biggest stage in college basketball – March Madness – the company has shifted gears and traveled to the biggest oval track in NASCAR to share the fan-favorite $5 Biggie™ Bag with race enthusiasts. The $5 Biggie Bag comes complete with the choice of a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, Double Stack™, or a Crispy Chicken BLT with four-piece chicken nuggets (Spicy or Crispy), small Hot & Crispy Fries, and a small soft drink. A lot of flavor, a lot of value, a lot of choices.

● The Biggie-st, baggiest meal deal is lapping the competition and going big at Talladega. In addition to its red-white-and-blue No. 62 Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag Chevrolet Camaro that Gragson will race in the GEICO 500, Wendy’s will have a pop-up restaurant in the infield at Talladega near turn four where fans can get their own $5 Biggie Bag without missing any of the racing action. It’s operating schedule is as follows (all times CDT):

● Friday, April 22: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Biggie Bag and Frosty sampling)

● Saturday, April 23: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Frosty-ccino sampling); 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Biggie Bag and Frosty sampling)

● Sunday, April 24: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Frosty-ccino sampling); 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Biggie Bag and Frosty sampling)

● It’s more than just a pop-up store. It’s a float! That’s right. The Wendy’s pop-store in the infield at Talladega is mobile, and fans can see it in action on Friday night in the Big One on the Boulevard Parade, starting at 7:30 p.m. CDT. But wait, there’s more! The Biggie Bag-themed float with 3-D products adorning it – Double Stack, fries, nuggets and a drink – has a walk-up window where fans can get food. You’ll ask, “Is this heaven?” No, it’s Talladega. And if you weren’t totally sure, a Wendy’s-branded big rig will be pulling the float. That air horn you’ll hear is the sound of awesome.

● How do you know when you’ve made it? When you have your very own Frosty. Noah Gragson has indeed made it. The driver of the No. 62 Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag Chevrolet Camaro developed the Blue Raspberry Frosty in the corporate kitchen of Wendy’s headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. It’s an exclusive treat that is only available at the Wendy’s pop-up store in the infield at Talladega.

● Since its NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2017, Beard Motorsports has proven to be the little team that could, a modern-day David competing against the Goliaths of NASCAR. The family-ownedorganization has taken a strategic approach to its racing endeavors, running only the superspeedway races at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway and its sister track, Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. With a Chevrolet Camaro powered by an ECR-built engine, Beard Motorsports can race at the front, a fact proven by a pair of top-10 finishes in 2020 at the hands of former driver Brendan Gaughan – seventh in the Daytona 500 and eighth in the Coke Zero Sugar 400, also at Daytona.

● What drives Beard Motorsports? Passion. Linda, along with her children, carry on the pursuit of their husband and father, respectively, in racing and in business. Beard Motorsports and its family-owned company, Beard Oil Distributing – a certified women owned business – is a distinctive qualifier in the male-dominated sport of auto racing. Linda is hands-on with the family motorsports business and was alongside her husband as he pursued his passion of racing at Daytona – first as a NASCAR Xfinity Series driver in 1982 and simultaneously as a team owner. Today, Beard Motorsports competes in his honor. The GEICO 500 at Talladega will be the team’s 19th career NASCAR Cup Series start and its ninth at Talladega.

● While it’s Linda Beard at the top of Beard Motorsports’ masthead, the team is managed with ample support from her children, Amie and Mark Beard Jr., along with help from crew chief Darren Shaw and Gaughan, the former NASCAR Cup Series driver who made 17 of his 67 career Cup Series starts with Beard Motorsports. It was Gaughan who, upon retiring from racing at the conclusion of the 2020 season, tabbed Gragson to be his successor in the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro. In addition to both being natives of Las Vegas, Gaughan has observed Gragson’s rise from regional racer to a competitor in NASCAR’s top national touring series.

● While Gragson is still a NASCAR Cup Series neophyte with only three career starts in NASCAR’s top series, he is not new to NASCAR. The 23-year-old competes fulltime in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports (JRM) and 2022 marks his fourth season in NASCAR’s stepping-stone division to the elite NASCAR Cup Series. Gragson is a six-time winner in the Xfinity Series, and he scored his first career victory in the 2020 season opener at Daytona. He is coming off his best year yet where in 2021 Gragson won three races and advanced to the Championship 4 where he competed for the series title in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, finishing a career-high third in points.

● Gragson’s first career NASCAR Cup Series start came with Beard Motorsports in this year’s Daytona 500. After starting 39th in the Great American Race, Gragson was running among the top-10 with just 10 laps remaining, But on lap 191, another car lost control and slid into his Gragson’s Chevrolet Camaro as the two raced through the frontstretch. Gragson was turned into the wall and his car suffered heavy front-end damage. Gragson was unhurt, but the same could not be said for his racecar. He was unable to continue the race and was ultimately credited with a 31st-place finish.

● Before joining the Xfinity Series fulltime in 2019, Gragson competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2017 and 2018. He won twice – Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in October 2017 and Kansas Speedway in May 2018 – and finished second in the 2018 championship. Those Truck Series results were a continuation of the kind of talent Gragson showcased in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. In 2015 and 2016, Gragson raced in this developmental league, regionally split into two divisions – K&N Pro Series East and K&N Pro Series West. Gragson won six races between the two entities and narrowly missed out on the 2015 West title by a scant seven points.

Noah Gragson, Driver of the No. 62 Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag Chevrolet Camaro

Your first career NASCAR Cup Series start came with Beard Motorsports earlier this year in the Daytona 500. Talk about that moment and the details of that race and racing for the Beard Family.

“I was pumped up that we made it into the race and that we were competitive all race long. We got up to seventh toward the end and I hate that we got torn up, or we might have had a shot at pulling off an upset win. To be able to run inside the top-10 with a smaller, family-owned team was a really cool moment in my career.”

The Daytona 500 was also the official debut of the NextGen car. What was it like to drive and, more specifically, was it similar to the car you currently drive in the Xfinity Series?

“You hear of a lot of people saying how different the NextGen car can be to drive. For me, especially at a place like Daytona or Talladega, it was really similar to my Xfinity car.”

Were there any differences to how you worked the draft with the NextGen car compared to the Xfinity Series car? Did you have to learn some new techniques and break some old habits?

“Not really, I just tried to think about everything I’ve learned from Dale Jr. and my JRM team and apply that to my Cup races on the bigger tracks.”

How helpful was the Daytona 500 in preparing you for the GEICO 500 at Talladega?

“Track time is always important and we’re bringing a strong Wendy’s $5 Biggie Bag Chevrolet Camaro to Talladega. Anytime you get a chance to race against the Cup guys on Sundays, it always helps you learn more about what moves work and what moves don’t.”

All racecar drivers want to win, but outside of a win Sunday at Talladega, what do you want to get out of the GEICO 500 considering it will be just your third career NASCAR Cup Series start?

“I think the biggest thing is running all the laps and being there at the end. The Cup races this year seem to be more about survival than anything, and I want to be in the mix coming to the last lap.”

Your Xfinity Series car owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is a six-time NASCAR Cup Series winner at Talladega. What advice has he given you about racing there?

“Dale Jr., has helped me a lot for plate-style tracks. I used his advice to win the Daytona Xfinity race in 2020 with JRM. The biggest thing is how much he pays attention to the positioning of his car and how the air plays a role in benefiting your momentum.”

You’re debuting a new partner at Talladega in Wendy’s. How did the partnership come together and what are some of the things that you’ve already done with them?

“We’ve had a great relationship with the Wendy’s folks for a few years now. I had the chance to do some fan interactions at their hospitality location in Daytona this year. That’s where we started talking about Talladega and trying to put this partnership together. I’m excited to work with such a cool brand that engages with the fans and, obviously, who doesn’t love Wendy’s?”

What’s more intense – the racing at Talladega or the Talladega Boulevard there in the infield?

“Both can be a lot of fun. I would have to say the racing is more intense, but they do know how to get wild on the boulevard.”

Do you go out on the Talladega Boulevard? If so, what do you like about it and what are some of the crazier things you’ve seen on the Boulevard?

“I think I’ll be out there for Wendy’s over the course of the weekend hanging out with fans. It’ll be fun to hang out on the boulevard, but it will for sure be a long weekend of racing running both Xfinity and Cup. It’s going to be pretty early to bed for me.”

If you get hungry on the Boulevard, where do you go?

“If I get hungry, I’m going to stop by Wendy’s activation site at Talladega and grab a Wendy’s Blue Raspberry Frosty – right there in the infield. I went up to Wendy’s headquarters in Ohio and got to mix it up and try different flavors. The blue raspberry tastes amazing and is now my signature recipe. Everyone needs to try it.”

Newgarden Pushes Open Test Speed Limit to 229 at Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (Thursday, April 21, 2022) – The good times keep rolling for Josef Newgarden.

Two-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Newgarden, who leads the series points this year after winning two of the first three races, led the rain-delayed second day of the Indianapolis 500 Open Test on Thursday with a top lap of 229.519 mph in the No. 2 Shell Team Penske Chevrolet. That lap was nearly 2.5 mph faster than the top Wednesday speed of 227.187 by six-time series champion Scott Dixon.

Newgarden is seeking his first Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge victory and a record-extending 19th “500” win for Team Penske.

“I can’t deny things feel really good on the 2 car,” Newgarden said. “They’re just progressing. It’s not like two steps forward, two steps back, or vice versa. I feel like it’s going forward every single time, and we’re just getting better.

“We’ve been on a good trajectory at the moment. I don’t want to see it flatten too much; I want to see it go the other way. I feel confident with what we’ve got, feel good at showing up anywhere. Being at Team Penske makes that easier. I always feel confident in our group.”

Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Takuma Sato was second fastest at 229.427 in the No. 51 Nurtec ODT Honda, followed by 2013 Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan at 228.767 in the No. 1 The American Legion Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

2008 “500” winner Dixon ended up fourth at 228.689 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Scott McLaughlin, winner of the season-opening race at St. Petersburg, rounded out the top five in the No. 3 Pennzoil Team Penske Chevrolet.

The start of the four-hour session was delayed by four hours and 30 minutes due to morning showers in the Indianapolis area. The day was incident-free after there were three spins by drivers either on or exiting the acceleration lane inside Turns 1 and 2 on Wednesday, but diligent asphalt work overnight and this morning by INDYCAR, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Firestone increased the grip levels of that area today.

Once the track dried, drivers wasted no time swirling around the 2.5-mile oval in large packs to simulate traffic while testing race setups. All the top speeds were produced with the aid of an aerodynamic tow from leading cars.

Among the handful of drivers who turned clean laps without a tow, Rinus VeeKay was fastest at 221.314 in the No. 21 SONAX Chevrolet. McLaughlin was the second-fastest no-tow driver at 221.221, followed by Conor Daly at 220.793 in the No. 20 BitNile Chevrolet.

“We won’t know where we stand in the true place until the Saturday of qualifying (May 21) when everyone does their first run,” said 2018 “500” winner Will Power, who was 14th overall in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. “That’s when you’ll have a bit of an idea the sort of speed we might have.

“You need (extra boost for qualifying), with everyone going on single runs on exactly the same fuel load with no draft, all that. That’s the only way you’ll know.”

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson continued a solid two days of preparation for his first start in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” by ending up eighth fastest at 227.900 in the No. 48 Carvana Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Johnson was the fastest of the seven Indy 500 rookies at the test.

Thirty-two drivers combined to turn 4,318 laps (10,795 miles) during the two-day test. Marcus Ericsson completed 148 laps – nearly three-quarters of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge distance of 200 laps – on Thursday in his No. 8 Huski Chocolate Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, more than any other driver.

The only driver not on track Thursday was four-time and reigning winner Helio Castroneves. His test was cut short due to damage to the front, right side and undertray of his No. 06 AutoNation/Sirius XM Honda when he spun exiting the acceleration lane inside Turn 2 and hit the SAFER Barrier in Turn 2 on Wednesday.

Up next for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES is the fourth race of the season, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by AmFirst on April 29-May 1 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

The 106th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is scheduled for Sunday, May 29 at IMS.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

What will it take to be successful at Talladega Superspeedway?

“Anything can happen at Talladega Superspeedway. It’s a little bit of a coin flip, but my No. 3 team will be doing everything we can to try and win. In order to succeed at Talladega, you have to have a little bit of luck, and use momentum at the very end to take advantage of positions. It’s speedway racing. It’s drafting. And it’s chaos, but we’re up for the challenge.”

TYLER REDDICK QUOTES:

How do you prepare for a racetrack like Talladega?

“Talladega is one of the racetracks that we go to and you’ve just got to expect the unexpected. You can be running second with three laps to go and finish 20th and you can be running 20th with three laps to go and end up winning. My No. 8 team and I go into each race weekend with the same mindset and that is to run up front and win. Last weekend, we were really close to that first win and instead of using that as a reason to be frustrated, we’re using it as more momentum. As the driver, I’m going to focus on listening to my spotter and crew chief, hitting all my marks and staying out of trouble. Staying out of trouble is hard at these superspeedways but those drivers end up being at the front when the white flag waves. The schedule is also different this weekend with no practice and straight to qualifying so we’ll see how that goes for us. I’m looking forward to a good weekend at Talladega.”

This Week’s Whelen Engineering Chevrolet Camaro SS at Talladega Superspeedway … Creed will be making his first Talladega Superspeedway start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday afternoon. He was running inside the top 10 in the most recent Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway on April 8 before mechanical issues derailed his solid run. Creed has three Truck Series starts at Talladega with a best finish of ninth-place (2019) and led at least one lap in every race (36 laps total). He is 15th in the Xfinity Series driver’s standings, 54 points outside of the top 10.

CopsForKids … The No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet will carry a special decal this weekend at Talladega to honor CopsForKids. The purpose of the organization is to establish and maintain positive relationships between the police and families with children in our local community. CopsForKids achieves this through giving time, love, and knowledge to set a positive example that empowers kids to be safe, respectful, and law-abiding citizens.

Special Guest at Talladega … Sgt. Jeremy March, Founder of CopsForKids, will be a special guest of the No. 2 team this weekend at Talladega. A native of Mobile, Ala., Sgt. March has been serving his community for the past 24 years. He was inspired to start CopsForKids four years ago to establish and maintain positive relationships between law enforcement and families with children in the local community and has impacted hundreds of children through his outreach efforts and is a beloved member of the community. Affectionately known around town as the “Dancing Cop,” from his enthusiastic participation in community events, March spreads joy and inspires connection between police officers and the youth of Mobile.

SHELDON CREED QUOTES:

Tell us about the CopsForKids organization that is on your car this weekend.

“It’s really cool to honor the CopsForKids organization this weekend at Talladega and I’m looking forward to meeting Sgt. March. I feel like I learned a lot of what not to do back in February at Daytona and I think out teammates did as well and how we can work better together. I’m looking forward to taking what we learned at Daytona and applying it at Talladega. We can be there be there at the end and have a chance to win or get a good finish with our Whelen Chevrolet.”

There is no practice before qualifying and then the race at Talladega. Is that a big factor?

“I don’t think it really matters to not practice at Talladega. You could be a little free or a little tight your first run but you usually don’t change much anyways so it doesn’t really matter. It’s cool that Jeffrey Earnhardt is our teammate this weekend. More cars are only going to help us. It’s nothing but a positive to have another car out of our stable go to Talladega.”

JEFFREY EARNHARDT QUOTES:

What does it mean to you to compete at Talladega Superspeedway under the Richard Childress Racing banner?

“What a dream come true. The chance to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 car for RCR, that my pawpaw made famous, has long been a dream of mine and now it’s finally happening. I can’t thank ForeverLawn enough for making my dreams come to reality and for being such a big part of my career. I also want to thank Mr. Childress for making this possible. The No. 3 car is cherished by a lot of people, and I know how much it means to him. To give me this opportunity is something I’ll never forget. It’s going to be a lot of pressure, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Your crew chief for this weekend is Larry McReynolds. What does it mean to you to be able to work with him?

“It means a lot to be able to work with Larry McReynolds for this race. I’ve gotten to know Larry over the years, and I have tremendous respect for him. He’s an incredible man and is still very well informed on our sport and knowing what is going on even though it has been a while since he has been a crew chief. I know he’s excited for this opportunity as well. He called me and he said ‘morning, day, night. I don’t care what time it is. You call me if you need me.’ He’s just as thankful for this opportunity as I am to be doing it.”

This Week’s Bennett Transportation and Logistics Chevrolet Camaro SS at Richmond Raceway … Hill will be making his second Talladega Superspeedway start in NASCAR Xfinity Series competition on Saturday afternoon. He scored two top-10 finishes in five Truck Series starts at Talladega. Hill scored a fourth-place finish in the most recent Xfinity Series race at Martinsville Speedway on April 8, his fourth top-five in eight starts this season. Hill has claimed top-five finishes on four different size tracks: Daytona International Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Circuit of the Americas and Martinsville Speedway. Hill enters the Talladega event 10th in the series drivers standings.

A look back at Daytona … Hill scored his first-career Xfinity Series victory in February at Daytona International Speedway. The win came in his 16th start in the series and in his second start in the series at Daytona. His average running position was 5.10 – the best of any driver. He was one of just two drivers to run every lap inside the top 15. Hill led once covering the final 23 laps and clinched a spot in the 2022 NASCAR Playoffs with his victory.

Dash 4 Cash … Hill’s fourth-place finish at Martinsville Speedway qualified him for the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash bonus this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. This is the second time this season he has been eligible for the bonus. Should Hill win on Saturday afternoon, the Winston, Ga., driver will earn $100,000 from Xfinity.

AUSTIN HILL QUOTES:

Talladega Superspeedway and Daytona International Speedway appear very similar. What are some differences that you notice between those two tracks?

“I think the one big difference between Daytona and Talladega is that Daytona is narrower. I feel like Talladega presents a lot more opportunities to see three and four-wide action whereas at Daytona you see a lot more two-wide. At Talladega you might see three and four-wide for a lot of laps. I also think Talladega is a little bit rougher right now than Daytona. There are more bumps at Talladega but Daytona is starting to get to that characteristic. I also think having a car at Talladega that can be more stable is important. You want to be trimmed out as much as you can but there’s also a price to pay if you’re trimmed out too much with the bumps and rough spots.”

You are also competing for the Dash4Cash bonus this weekend at Talladega.

“I think it’s going to be really cool to be able to run for the Dash4Cash. I think that brings more of an intensity level to the weekend so I think that’s going to be fun racing with those three guys and just try to position yourself in the right place at the end of the race to get the job done. The fact that we won at Daytona earlier this season in the Xfinity car and the Truck definitely gives me a lot of confidence going to Talladega. I feel like we have a chance at winning everywhere we go with our Bennett Transportation and Logistics Chevrolet, but when we go to a superspeedway it seems like we have that little extra piece that a lot of other teams don’t have.
