Noah Gragson Notes

Noah Gragson and the No. 4 Ford team head to Brooklyn, Michigan for 200 laps at the Michigan International Speedway. Tucked away in the Irish Hills, the two-mile intermediate track has been good to Gragson in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, earning four top-10’s in four starts at the track.

MillerTech will make its debut with Front Row Motorsports and the No. 4 team this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The premium lithium battery company is set to partner with Gragson and the No. 4 team for three NASCAR Cup Series races. In addition to Michigan, MillerTech will serve as the primary partner at the Pocono Raceway and the Dover Motor Speedway. FRM and MillerTech will also collaborate on compelling activation programs to engage the NASCAR community and promote their array of products.

“Michigan is a track I feel really comfortable at,” said Gragson. “This team brought a fast Ford here last season and we came home 12th, so I know we have what it takes to compete. It’s just a matter of executing and staying out of trouble. It’s awesome to have MillerTech on board for the next two races, and I’d love to get them to Victory Lane—especially this weekend at Ford’s home track.”

Layne Riggs Notes

After a five-year hiatus, the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series is set to return to the Michigan International Speedway this weekend. The two-mile track is an important one for Ford with the car manufacturer’s headquarters located a little over an hour from the track.

The No. 34 Ford F-150 will showcase the CLEW Nicotine Pouch brand in multiple races throughout the 2025 season, starting this weekend at Michigan. In addition to their primary races, CLEW will serve as a full season associate throughout the season.

Crafted by Nevcore Innovations, CLEW delivers lasting satisfaction with an ultra-smooth mouthfeel that sets a new standard in the industry. Each can contains 20 pouches, offering a convenient and discreet way to enjoy your nicotine wherever, whenever. Now entering into a partnership with Riggs and Front Row Motorsports, CLEW will introduce their line of pouches to the NASCAR world. Learn more about CLEW at www.clewpouches.com.

“Our team has a lot of momentum right now and that makes us hungrier for a win,” said Riggs. “Our trucks are fast, but we need to be better about executing on pit road in order to win. Michigan is the home of Ford, so I definitely want to perform well in their home race, and it would be great to get CLEW in Victory Lane in their first race. There is a lot of synergy between NASCAR and nicotine, so I am looking forward to promoting the CLEW brand to our fans. They have a great product with a ton of flavors.”

Following the Nashville Superspeedway event, Smith is now third in the Truck Series Driver Championship points standings. Through the first 12 races of the season, Smith has scored two wins, four top-five, and eight top-10 finishes.

“This is an important weekend for Ford, I definitely want to represent their brand well at their home track,” said Smith. “We struggled a little last week and dropped in the points standings, but I think we can regain that position this week. I’m excited for the weekend.”

Toyota GAZOO Racing Weekly Preview 06.04.25

This Week in Motorsports: June 2 – 8, 2025

  • NCS/NCTS/ARCA: Michigan International Speedway – June 6-8
  • NHRA: Bristol Dragway – June 6-8

PLANO, Texas (June 4, 2025) – NASCAR’s Cup and Truck Series, along with the ARCA Menards Series, head to Michigan International Speedway to do battle on the fast two-mile oval. This is the first time the Truck Series will race at Michigan since 2020. NHRA is right back on track at Bristol Dragway for race eight of the 2025 season.

NASCAR National Series – NCS/NCTS

Multiple Camry XSE drivers in/near Playoffs going into the summer … With the calendar now flipping to June, the focus of the Cup Series begins to shift to the Playoffs and how drivers and teams begin to position themselves to be able to fight for the 2025 championship in NASCAR’s top series. Currently, five Toyota drivers are inside the cutline in the Playoff standings – Christopher Bell (third) and Denny Hamlin (fourth) have locked themselves into the Playoffs with wins already this season, with Tyler Reddick (sixth), Bubba Wallace (10th) and Chase Briscoe (11th) join them in the provisional field. Just outside the Playoff field are LEGACY MOTOR CLUB’s John Hunter Nemechek (22nd) and Erik Jones (24th), who sit just 24 and 32 points, respectively, below the cutline heading to Michigan this weekend.

Reddick seeks Michigan repeat … En route to his 2024 Cup Series regular season championship, Reddick captured two wins (and then a later win at Homestead in the Playoffs), that included a triumph at Michigan International Speedway last August. The driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry XSE for 23XI Racing led 15 laps and held off competitors on an overtime restart to claim the victory and the Heritage Trophy for Toyota, given to the winning manufacturer. A repeat win at Michigan would lock Reddick into the postseason for the fourth consecutive year, as he also aims to return to the Championship 4 for the second straight season.

Hamlin returns to favorable Michigan … A week after his 700th career Cup Series start, and another top-five finish, Hamlin is back at Michigan International Speedway where he’s garnered plenty of success over the course of his career. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver and 23XI Racing co-owner has seven consecutive top-10 finishes at Michigan and 10 in the last 13 races there. He also has two career victories in 2010 and 2011. Another top-10 finish or better would be the eighth top-10 for Hamlin so far this season.

Heim eager to continue dominant season run … Though he wasn’t victorious last weekend in Nashville, Corey Heim continued his dominant 2025 Truck Series season. The Toyota Development Driver led 58 laps, gathered his 10th stage win of the season and came home in the runner-up spot for his eighth top-five and 10th top-10 finish this year. Those results – in addition to his four race victories – have the driver of the No. 11 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage with a 122-point lead in the series driver standings with just six races remaining in the regular season.

Alan returns to No. 1 Tundra… For the second time this season, Lawless Alan is back behind the wheel of the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for TRICON Garage this weekend at Michigan. Alan’s only other start this year came at Martinsville, where he earned a top-10 finish.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Ruggiero makes 2025 ARCA debut … Along with his full-time efforts in the Truck Series with TRICON Garage, Toyota Development Driver Gio Ruggiero will make his first start of the season in the ARCA Menards Series, piloting the No. 18 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Ruggiero made 10 appearances in the ARCA Menards Series last season, bringing home seven top-fives and nine top-10 finishes.

NHRA – Top Fuel/Funny Car

Todd looking to keep momentum from Epping triumph … J.R. Todd’s victory at Epping last weekend was the first for he and Toyota in Funny Car since his win at Gainesville to open the 2024 season – nearly 15 months since the last triumph. Both parties hope the win opens up the floodgates as Todd looks to push for the 2025 Funny Car championship to add a second world title to his resume, as he climbed from 10th to sixth in the standings after last weekend.

DETROIT (June 4, 2025) – With one victory in a 24-hour endurance classic already in-hand, Corvette Z06 GT3.R team AWA is hoping lightning strikes twice, this time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in its debut at the French classic.

The team, its No. 13 Corvette and driving trio of Matt Bell, Orey Fidani and Lars Kern are part of the 24-car field in the LMGT3 class of the famed French enduro. AWA’s Corvette is one of three Z06 GT3.Rs entered for this year’s Le Mans alongside FIA WEC full-season entrant TF Sport, which is supplying logistical support to the AWA effort.

First up for the team is Sunday’s Test Day, which features a pair of three-hour sessions of running around the famed Le Mans circuit.

It also provides the first time for the No. 13 Corvette to run in its predominantly red race livery, highlighting the team’s Canadian heritage.

The AWA driving trio are at Le Mans via Fidani’s win in the 2024 Bob Akin Award, which goes to the top-scoring Bronze driver in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

This year’s Le Mans will be the third for Bell – who podiumed in the 2022 LMP2 Pro-Am race – but the first for both Fidani and Kern. Fidani and Kern did, however, race last year at the event in the Road to Le Mans support race in anticipation of a potential invite to this year’s race.

Not only did that invitation come to pass, AWA won this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona in IMSA’s GTD class with its Corvette. In addition, Fidani again is leading the Akin Award standings heading into the next IMSA event at Watkins Glen the weekend following Le Mans.

The AWA team will get its first laps around the 8.47-mile circuit during Sunday’s Test Day. It’s the first time since last year’s final lap that cars will have the chance to run on the full Le Mans layout – a mix of permanent racetrack and public roads. The Test Day is valuable with only a three-hour Free Practice on Wednesday ahead of the first round of qualifying later in the day.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET / 4 p.m. CET on Saturday, June 14. MotorTrend will air the full race live in the U.S., with full live streaming coverage of all on-track sessions – including qualifying and Hyperpole – will be available through the MAX app in the U.S. Radio Le Mans also will provide live streaming audio coverage of all sessions as well.

AWA PRE-EVENT QUOTES

MATT BELL, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “Le Mans is the pinnacle of our sport. It’s the biggest, most prestigious race in the world, there’s just something extra special about it. There are amazing endurance races everywhere, but Le Mans is the crème de la crème. I’ve done it twice and was fortunate to be on the podium my first time. I’ll be looking to replicate that with AWA and Corvette. We’ve got a strong team, and I’m really looking forward to my first GT run with AWA at Le Mans.”

(The team’s confidence) “I have huge belief in this team, and everyone on the team does too. We’re a confident group, especially after the Daytona win. We always felt we could compete at that level, and now we’ve proven it. That win definitely raised the bar for us going into Le Mans. I think we’re shooting for a podium, minimum.”

OREY FIDANI, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “We completed a test ahead of heading to Le Mans and it went very well. We’re feeling confident as a team and doing everything we can to be as prepared as possible. I’m incredibly excited to be back on track soon and getting to return to Circuit de la Sarthe for the big show this time. It’s truly amazing what this group has accomplished in the past year, and now we get to show what we’re made of and represent Canada in the biggest endurance race in the world.”

LARS KERN, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “It still feels a bit like a dream. I’ve always said I wouldn’t believe I was racing at Le Mans until the moment I left pit lane. For years, making it to the Le Mans grid felt out of reach. It’s the pinnacle of sports car racing, and I wasn’t sure I belonged there.

“Coming here after a Daytona 24 win, driving a Corvette in LMGT3, still feels surreal. But here we are. I can’t thank everyone enough for the trust they’ve put in me, especially Orey and the entire AWA team. They’re an incredible group, and I wouldn’t want to race with anyone else.

“Now let’s put that Maple Leaf Corvette Z06 GT3.R on French tarmac and make Canada proud.”

Carson Hocevar, Spire Motorsports Partner with Totalplay for Cup Series Inaugural Visit to Mexico City

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 4, 2025) – Totalplay, Mexico’s leading telecommunications provider, will serve as Carson Hocevar’s primary sponsor when the NASCAR Cup Series makes its inaugural visit to Mexico City, Mexico for the Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Totalplay delivers top-quality connectivity and entertainment services through its 100 percent fully fiber-optic, direct-to-home network. Its commitment to innovation and excellence has positioned the company as the provider with the fastest internet, best service, and most advanced technology in the market.

Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez – a 17-turn, 2.674-mile road course located in the heart of Mexico’s capital city – hosted the NASCAR Xfinity Series four times from 2004-2008. Last August, NASCAR announced it would bring the Cup Series to the historic venue and contest a points-paying race outside the United States for the first time since 1958 when the series raced in Toronto, Canada.

“We’ve seen a lot of growth for the sport over the last several years, and because of that, I think it’s time that we have an international race and give that a try,” said Hocevar. “This car has put on a good race on the road courses and it will be interesting to see how it does on a track where we see other high-level motorsports series compete.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how we unload at Mexico. The No. 77 team has put in a lot of effort to improve and find consistency from week to week no matter what type of course we’re racing. We finished 2024 with a strong finish at Watkins Glen and had made a lot of progress overall with our road course program. I expect we’ll have speed and since everyone is on an even playing field to start, we should have a good shot at a decent starting position. From there we’ll just learn with every lap and hope to be fighting for the win.”

As the Mexican leader in ultra-fast internet, the Totalplay pairing with Spire Motorsports’ ultra-fast sophomore sensation couldn’t come at a more opportune time.

Meanwhile, Hocevar has good reason to be optimistic heading into the second road-course race of 2025. Last September, the Portage, Mich., native turned in what was then career-best third place finish at the Go Bowling at the Glen at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. Since then, the 22-year-old driver has upped the ante in circle track competition, notching runner-up finishes this season at Atlanta Motor Speedway and most recently, Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway.

The 2024 Sunoco Rookie of the Year is currently 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship point standings and sits just four points outside the top 15. Hocevar continues to impress during his sophomore Cup Series campaign, posting a pair of top-two and trio of top-10 finishes over this season’s first 14 races.

The Viva Mexico 250 from Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in will be streamed live on Amazon Prime Sunday, June 15, beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The NASCAR Cup Series inaugural race in Mexico City, Mexico will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Channel 90.

The team’s most recent win came on May 30, 2025, when Rajah Caruth took the checkered flag in the Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway.

In 2025, Spire Motorsports campaigns the Nos. 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolets in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team also fields the Nos. 07, 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolet Silverados in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and the No. 77 Chevrolet in the ARCA Menards Series in select events.

Mission Michigan: Balancing Outright Speed with Fuel Efficiency Is Key to FireKeepers Casino 400

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 4, 2025) – When drivers have their right foot mashed to the floorboard, their throttle wide open as they run more than 190 mph, fuel efficiency is not top of mind. But at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, the conundrum of balancing outright speed and maximizing fuel mileage is ever present.

The 2-mile oval in the state’s Irish Hills region produces some of the fastest speeds on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule. Its sweeping corners, banked at 18 degrees, grants drivers the ability to go wide-open or, at least attempt to, based on how much grip their tires and their own grit allow.

“Michigan is about as fast as it gets,” said Cody Ware, driver of the No. 51 Jacob Construction Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Rick Ware Racing. “You’re just about wide-open, and completely wide open when your car’s right and the track conditions are right.

“It takes a mega-level of commitment to keep your foot to the floor. You’ve got to tell yourself not to lift when you really want to going into the corner.”

As drivers push these boundaries, they also push how far their car’s 18-gallon fuel cell can take them. For as many Michigan races have been won by brute strength, seemingly just as many have been won by those who drive as if there was an egg between their foot and the gas pedal.

“You’ve got to have a car that’s really, really fast if you want to try to save fuel because the only way you’re going to do that is by having less wide-open throttle time,” Ware said. “It’s always good to be driving a Ford at Michigan because those Roush-Yates engines make really good gas mileage. That really helps with strategy. Fords can take less fuel and get more track position on restarts. I think that’s why you’ve seen the Blue Oval in victory lane on so many Sunday afternoons at Michigan.”

Ford owns a series-best 44 Cup victories at Michigan, including a recent streak of nine straight that began in June 2018 and lasted all the way through the 2023 FireKeepers Casino 400.

Fuel strategy delivered more than a few of those wins. Among that run of nine consecutive victories was Kevin Harvick’s win in August 2019 when he stretched his fuel for a 48-lap, green-flag run to the finish.

The ability to go fast, yet still save fuel, is an art that requires in-race adaptation.

“Being smooth is always key at Michigan,” Ware said. “You want to find your rhythm – your throttle points, your lift points, your pickup points – but when you have to break that in an effort to save fuel, it gets tricky. You have to find a whole new set of markers on the track to sustain that new rhythm. You can get jumbled up and make a mistake.”

How does Ware view his ability to save fuel?

“I don’t think there’s ever anyone who walks away from a fuel-mileage race and says, ‘Yeah, I did that perfectly,’ because in the moment you never know. There’s no fuel gauge in the car. We don’t see how many miles-per-gallon we’re getting,” Ware said.

“Sometimes, you slow down too much. Other times, you don’t slow down enough and you run dry. You even try to get ready for the moment and look at historical data before the race weekend even starts, but still, in the moment, it’s almost impossible to really know if you’re doing a good job or not.”

The ultimate validation comes with a trip to victory lane. But is there an asterisk attached to a fuel-mileage win?

“A win is a win is a win,” Ware said. “I don’t care if it’s superspeedway racing, fuel-mileage racing, rain racing – you and your team have done something right if you’ve won a NASCAR Cup Series race. You just don’t fluke into it at this level.”

The FireKeepers Casino 400 will mark Ware’s 121st career Cup Series start, and his drive toward his first Cup Series win begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. EDT when practice begins. Qualifying for the FireKeepers Casino 400 follows at 10:40 a.m. Sunday’s 200-lap race begins at 2 p.m. All of the action will be broadcast live by Prime Video and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

About Rick Ware Racing:

Rick Ware has been a motorsports mainstay for more than 40 years. It began at age 6 when the third-generation racer began his driving career and has since spanned four wheels and two wheels on both asphalt and dirt. Competing in the SCCA Trans Am Series and other road-racing divisions led Ware to NASCAR in the early 1980s, where he finished third in his NASCAR debut – the 1983 Warner W. Hodgdon 300 NASCAR Grand American race at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway. More than a decade later, injuries would force Ware out of the driver’s seat and into full-time team ownership. In 1995, Rick Ware Racing was formed, and with his wife Lisa by his side, Ware has since built his eponymous organization into an entity that competes full-time in the elite NASCAR Cup Series while simultaneously campaigning successful teams in the Top Fuel class of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Progressive American Flat Track and FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX).

FUNNY CAR’S J.R. TODD EAGER TO STAY ON WINNING TRACK AT SUPER GRIP NHRA THUNDER VALLEY NATIONALS

J.R. Todd

BRISTOL, Tenn. (June 3, 2025) – After winning Sunday in Epping, snapping a 25-race winless streak in the process, Funny Car’s J.R. Todd would like to see the wait for his next victory reduced dramatically. In fact, it could be only a week if the former world champion keeps rolling at this weekend’s 24th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at scenic Bristol Dragway.

Todd and his Kalitta Motorsports team, led by crew chief Dickie Venables, impressed last week en route to his first victory since the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series opener in 2024. Venables took over as crew chief in the off-season, bringing an impressive championship resumé.

Though there were some early-season struggles, Todd and the group have been building and the results in their 12,000-horsepower DHL Toyota GR Supra were apparent in Epping. Repeating that would be ideal, especially as Todd, who has 22 career victories, seeks his first career win in Thunder Valley.

“This sport goes in waves. You’re only as good as your last race,” Todd said. “We’ve done well at Bristol in the past, so I’m excited to go there. I like that race and I’ve always wanted to win there. I’ve been to some finals there, but it’s never worked out. We have a car that can contend with these guys and I’m excited for what we have.

“It’s nice to get a win; it was a big win for our team, but we still have work to do. We know that. I think we have a good car to work with now and we’re going into Bristol where we’ve run well in the past.”

In 2024, Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Austin Prock (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won in Bristol. Clay Millican, Prock, Erica Enders and Matt Smith each won the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, while semifinalists from the NHRA New England Nationals will rematch in Bristol in 2025. It is the eighth of 20 events in 2025 and the race will be broadcast on FS1, including eliminations starting at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 8.

Todd will be involved in the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge on Saturday in Bristol, taking on Alexis DeJoria in an Epping rematch. The other matchup features rookie Spencer Hyde and Jack Beckman, as Todd looks to keep pace with his Top Fuel teammates Doug Kalitta and Shawn Langdon.

They’ve combined to win all six of the Saturday specialty races in that category, with Todd, who is currently sixth in points, looking to add to the tally in Bristol. Of course, he’s also searching for another victory against a loaded lineup in Bristol that includes points leader Prock, former world champs Ron Capps, Matt Hagan and Cruz Pedregon, Bob Tasca III and Daniel Wilkerson.

“I’m just glad we finally won because (his Top Fuel teammates) have been making us look bad,” Todd said. “It’s impressive what they’ve been doing in the (Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge). I love getting that opportunity to compete on Saturday and it would be nice to double-up again. I always have confidence in Dickie. It’s taken some time to get where we want to be and I think we’re creeping up on it.”

Racing legend Tony Stewart has taken control in the Top Fuel ranks, advancing to the past five final rounds to move into the points lead. Other top names include Epping winner Brittany Force, Doug Kalitta, Shawn Langdon and Antron Brown.

Jeg Coughlin, a five-time Pro Stock champ, earned his third Bristol win over reigning champ Greg Anderson last year. Anderson is in the points lead thanks to three wins, while teammate Dallas Glenn also has three wins for KB Titan Racing.

Pro Stock Motorcycle first appeared at Bristol Dragway in 2021 and each year has seen a new winner. Two-time reigning champion Gaige Herrera won last year, while other standouts include Matt Smith, Angie Smith, Richard Gadson and Chase Van Sant.

The event will also feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series, Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown and Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Mountain Motor Pro Stock. After final qualifying on Saturday, fans will also be treated to a special autograph session and fanfest at the Bristol Dragway Welcome Tent in the midway.

All weekend, fans will be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage, which is the main entertainment hub in the pits. The stage hosts Nitro School, meet and greets, autograph sessions and more. Bristol race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce each driver and includes the fan favorite SealMaster Track Walk. Fans are also invited to congratulate the winners at the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday.

As always, fans get a pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. Fans can see their favorite teams in action and servicing their cars, get autographs and more. They can also visit NHRA’s Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and vendors create an exciting atmosphere.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 5 and 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday, June 6, and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, June 7 at 12:30 and 3 p.m. Eliminations will begin at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 8. Television coverage includes qualifying action at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday and 8 p.m. on Sunday on FS1, leading into eliminations at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
