CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: What a Weekend Shaping Up

DXDT set to debut EBS-equipped Corvette; AWA looking for season’s second win

DETROIT (April 8, 2025) – Corvette Racing has full weekend coming up with two high-profile entries for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach – the third round of this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

As part of the showcase with IMSA’s GTP and GTD classes, two Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs are set for Saturday’s 100-minute street race on the famous 11-turn, 1.968-mile street circuit in southern California. Both have their own unique storylines:

No. 13 AWA Corvette: Matt Bell/Orey Fidani

Reigning Rolex 24 At Daytona GTD class winner AWA and its drivers made their first appearance at Long Beach a year ago and finished an impressive sixth in class. The result served as a springboard for the rest of the season, which culminated in the Bob Akin Award for Fidani as the highest points-scoring Bronze driver in GTD. The award landed AWA an invitation to this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the momentum carried over to the Rolex 24 victory in January

No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette: Robert Wickens/Tommy Milner

One of the most followed and most unique entries in this year’s race, DXDT Racing’s Corvette is equipped with a Bosch hand-control electronic braking system for Wickens – who lost the use of his lower body in a racing crash in 2018 – and Corvette factory driver Tommy Milner, who did the initial shakedown and testing of the hand-control system. The No. 36 Corvette is a collaboration between Bosch, Chevrolet, Pratt Miller and DXDT Racing.

Long Beach will mark Wickens’ first race in a Corvette Z06 GT3.R. His impressive resume pairs well with the Corvette Racing program, whose history of success includes 140 race victories around the world – 117 of them in IMSA competition – along with 14 Manufacturers championships for Chevrolet.

General Motors and Chevrolet have long been committed to accessibility for customers and employees. Upon hearing of Wickens’ interest in GTD, Chevrolet helped to bring Bosch, Pratt Miller and DXDT together to bring him into the Corvette family.

“Everyone within Chevrolet and Corvette Racing is excited to be part of this project,” said Mark Stielow, director, Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Programs. “Chevrolet’s commitment to accessibility and innovation in motorsports drove investment in this project. We all support Robert’s drive to compete at the highest levels of motorsport and are proud to partner with groups like Bosch, Pratt Miller and DXDT Racing to realize part of that dream.”

In addition to the 100-minute IMSA race, two Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs will contest a pair of 40-minute sprint races in SRO Motorsports’ GT America series – Blake McDonald in the No. 11 Corvette for DXDT Racing and Ross Chouest in the No. 50 Corvette for Chouest Povoledo Racing.

Chevrolet and the Corvette brand have been a fixture at Long Beach since the Corvette Racing program first visited Long Beach in 2007. In 17 visits, Corvette GT cars have captured eight victories with two additional in the Corvette Daytona Prototype era. Combined with results from the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, Chevrolet boasts a total of 22 victories in the Grand Prix’s two premier events.

The Grand Prix of Long Beach for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 12. The race will air live on USA Network starting at 5 p.m. ET with full streaming coverage on Peacock, which also will stream Friday’s 8 p.m. ET qualifying session. IMSA Radio also will air Friday’s qualifying and the race at IMSA.com along with XM 206 and SiriusXM Online 996.

CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R DRIVER PRE-EVENT DRIVER QUOTES

MATT BELL, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I’m looking forward to getting back to Long Beach. It was my first time there last season and it was the surprise of the year for me. I loved the circuit and the event as a whole; it was a great experience. We had great pace too, as we have so far this year, so I’m hopeful and confident that we’ll be able to put together another competitive showing.”

OREY FIDANI, NO. 13 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “Long Beach is a very challenging but also really exciting track. It’s so narrow and unforgiving, and with so little room for error, you know you have to be precise and make the right decisions. It’s a change of pace from Daytona and Sebring, but we’ve shown our consistency and I’m looking forward to proving our competitiveness in the sprint races as well.”

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 36 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “I’m excited to go back to Long Beach for a number of reasons. First off, it’s a really unique event with all kinds of history behind it – great drivers, great cars and fantastic races. I’ve been fortunate to win there four times… a couple under some pretty crazy circumstances! Second, it’s obviously a real privilege to be asked to team with Rob in this race. It’s such a big moment for him, for DXDT Racing, for Corvette, all of the partners and racing in general. We all have high hopes going into the weekend. The Corvette and the hand-control system have been solid in testing. Both Rob and I know the track very well. So we’re all optimistic of being able to race and challenge for a podium and hopefully the win.”

ROBERT WICKENS, NO. 36 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 GT3.R: “After finally getting my first taste of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R in Sebring a few weeks ago, I have been counting down the days until Long Beach. My first race with DXDT and finally my first race of 2025. It is going to be a very steep learning curve, but I am thankful I have a strong team behind me and a great teammate in Tommy Milner to help get me up to speed. Hopefully when we look back on this event on Saturday night we can be proud of what we accomplished together.”

The team has garnered two top-fives and four top-10 finishes, including a best result of third place with Ross Chastain in 2019. In the spring race last year, Bayley Currey led the team with an 11th-place finish. Currey also led the team in the fall race, but was 15th.

No. 42 Utilitra / J.F. Electric Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Matt Mills | Crew Chief: Mike Shiplett

  • Mills’ Bristol Stats: Matt Mills made his NCTS debut at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016, and has made a total of three series starts here. In both races held at the 0.533-mile short track last year, Mills finished in 25th-place. Mills has started five NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) races here, earning a best finish of 18th in the fall of 2019.
  • Shiplett’s Bristol Stats: Mike Shiplett made his NCTS debut as a crew chief at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2008, and competed in both races here last year. His series-best result at the track came in last year’s fall race when Bret Holmes finished in 13th. Shiplett is a two-time Bristol winner, having won NXS races with Kasey Kahne in 2007 and Kyle Larson in 2018. The experienced crew chief’s impressive NXS track record includes two poles, nine top-fives and 10 top-10 finishes. He has also made nine Cup Series starts with one top-10 (eighth with Cole Custer in 2022).
  • On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from longtime partners Utilitra and J.F. Electric, who will serve as his anchor partners for the entire 25-race season.
  • This Scheme Pops: There are some bright new colors which will be sported on the No. 42 truck this week. Utilitra is a woman-owned utility and technology solutions firm which will serve as Mills’ primary sponsor at Bristol, North Wilkesboro, and Watkins Glen.
  • Recapping Martinsville: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team fought their way to another top-15 finish at Martinsville Speedway. Qualifying 23rd, Mills went on to finish 25th in both stages with mild damage to the left-front of the J.F. Electric Chevrolet. Through late-race drama, Mills was able to pick up some track position towards the end, finishing in 15th-place.
  • Points Rundown: Following Martinsville, Mills gained one spot in the championship points standings, where he is now shown in 14th-place. The driver of the No. 42 sits 21 points behind Gio Ruggiero in 13th and has a one-point gap over Rajah Caruth, Andres Perez De Lara, and Matt Crafton who are all currently tied for 15th.
  • Quoting Mills: Did you notice any differences in the track last year comparing the spring race to the fall?

“I felt like there was a tad less grip in the fall race, so going back here in the spring, I think it’s going to be a bit more free. It should be a bit warmer there this time, so hopefully we can capitalize on a good run in our Utilitra Silverado. Last year, we were pretty good, but didn’t start the race off where we needed to and just got ourselves in a bind. It was too hard to make up ground, but hopefully we can have a good qualifying effort to make our race efforts easier.”

No. 44 Masked Owl Technologies Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Bayley Currey | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers

  • Currey Returns: NCTS veteran Bayley Currey steps back into the seat of the No. 44 Chevrolet this week for his fourth start of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway. Ross Chastain and Matt Gould have each made one start a piece in this truck over the course of the past two races. Currey’s best result so far has been a fourth-place effort in Atlanta, and he is eager to return to the ride.
  • Currey’s Bristol Stats: Bayley Currey has competed in five NCTS races at Bristol Motor Speedway, finishing as high as 11th-place in last spring’s event. Currey has made five NXS starts here, finishing as high as 11th in 2022. He has also made two Cup Series starts at “The Last Great Colosseum”.
  • Rogers’ Bristol Stats: Wally Rogers has called eight NCTS races at Bristol, finishing as high as third-place in 2004 with Matt Crafton. Rogers competed in 13 NXS races at the short track, scoring two top-fives (best of third, twice) and seven top-10 results. In 2009, Rogers made his Cup Series debut as a crew chief here and went on to make a total of 11 starts with a best finish of 18th-place with Michael McDowell in 2014.
  • On the Truck: Currey’s No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from Masked Owl Technologies and DQS Solutions & Staffing.
  • Recapping Martinsville: Matt Gould showed promise in just his third-career NCTS start, but was unfortunately caught up in a late-race incident through no fault of his own. Gould started the 200-lap event in 18th-place, and kept his nose clean through both stages. In the final stage, Gould was well-positioned to capitalize on a great finish, but was unable to avoid a large multi-truck crash in turn four. The No. 44 team kept him in the race, finishing in 22nd-place.
  • Slingin’ Dirt: While Currey hasn’t been in the No. 44 truck since Las Vegas, he has been acclimating to a new driving discipline on dirt. Currey tested the team’s Dirt Late Model at a handful of test sessions at the Tri-County Race Track and Laurens County Speedway over the past few weeks.
  • Owner Points Rundown: Through the first five races of the season, the No. 44 team has made impressive gains in speed on a weekly basis. Though they lost one spot in points after the series’ most recent event (now 14th), the team is currently only 13 points below the cutline for the Owner’s Playoffs.
  • Quoting Currey: Since it’s been a few weeks past the last time you raced a truck, will there be anything that you have to get used to again?

“Not really. My routine normally stays the same and I don’t really change much. It’s a short track, so there’s nothing crazy different. I’m excited to come back to Bristol though because it’s one of my favorite race tracks. I’m hoping that they don’t spray the resin this time so we can move around a little bit. They didn’t spray it before our race here in the fall and it seemed to really open up the racetrack. I think we’ll have a good run with our Masked Owl Chevy.”

No. 45 DQS Solutions & Staffing Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Kaden Honeycutt | Crew Chief: Phil Gould

  • Honeycutt’s Bristol Stats: Kaden Honeycutt has started four NCTS races at Bristol Motor Speedway. Last spring, he earned his track-best result of 12th-place while driving the No. 45 Chevrolet.
  • Gould’s Bristol Stats: Phil Gould has called seven NCTS races at Bristol. Gould’s drivers have contended for race wins here in the past, with results highlighted by two top-fives (best of third with Ross Chastain in 2019) and four top-10 finishes. Gould has also called 12 NXS races at the short track in which he earned three top-10 finishes (best of ninth with Brian Scott in 2013).
  • On the Truck: Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from DQS Solutions & Staffing and Masked Owl Technologies, who will serve as his anchor partners for the majority of the season.
  • New Scheme Reveal: Honeycutt’s sharp, black and white DQS Solutions & Staffing / Masked Owl Technologies Chevrolet will debut for the first time on Friday night, with additional races planned for Rockingham, Texas, Kansas, North Wilkesboro, Charlotte, Nashville, Pocono and Lime Rock.
  • Recapping Martinsville: Kaden Honeycutt was in contention to score his first-career win at Martinsville, but left disappointed following a late-race crash. Honeycutt earned his best-career starting spot by qualifying in third, and consistently ran near the front of the pack throughout the night. With two second-place finishes in both stages, Honeycutt bagged 18 stage points, ensuring a solid points night. Despite a 26th-place finish, Honeycutt remains well within Playoffs reach.
  • Staying Busy: Over the off weekend, Honeycutt competed in the inaugural South Atlantic Pro Series race at Tri-County Speedway. In his return to Pro Late Model competition, Honeycutt impressed as the runner-up finisher for Hettinger Racing’s short track program.
  • Points Rundown: With the assist of stage points, Honeycutt’s disappointing Martinsville finish didn’t negatively impact his points position by much. Though he dropped to 11th, he is only one point below Ben Rhodes at the Playoffs cutline. Honeycutt has a seven-point cushion over Tanner Gray in 12th.
  • Quoting Honeycutt: You’ve had three short track races in a row over the last few weeks (Pensacola, Martinsville, and Tri-County), so are you able to carry any of that knowledge over to Bristol?

“Bristol is definitely its own animal for sure. I thought we had a really good truck here in the Playoffs race where we were running for the Owner’s championship, but had an incident. I sped on pit road and we had to start in the back and just had to work our way forward. But as far as balance, we were actually really really good and felt like we were a lot better than where we were in the spring. Going back to Bristol this year for the first time in our new DQS Chevy, we’re probably going to come back with the same setup and adjust on it a little bit in practice. Hopefully we can qualify well and set ourselves in a good position to keep doing what we need to.”

A Guide to How Much Liability Insurance Drivers Should Carry

Photo by Nikita Nikitin on Pexels

Liability Insurance is essential for driving on the road. Mistakes can happen anytime in a fraction of a second, and you may find yourself responsible for the damage and fallout of a car accident. With good liability insurance, you can ensure that you cover the costs of any damage and medical procedures needed after the accident.

However, the question you should ask when choosing the best liability insurance is: how much coverage should you carry? This guide will walk you through liability insurance requirements and the coverage amounts you should pick for your situation. If you’re unsure about your insurance and coverage, contacting a Denver Car Accident Attorney can help significantly.

What is Liability Insurance?

Broadly speaking, liability insurance covers car accident costs, so you don’t have to pay out of pocket. Liability coverage is commonly separated into two categories: Bodily Injury and Property Damage.

Bodily Injury Coverage will pay for medical expenses, lost wages, and any pain or suffering the driver or passenger experienced. The amount of coverage offered for bodily injuries is typically higher than for property damage because the value of human life is more significant.

Property Damage Coverage covers the costs of damage to property or other vehicle(s). It is typically less expensive than bodily coverage but still essential for protecting personal finances from lawsuits and other liabilities.

Each state in the United States has a different minimum liability coverage. Oftentimes, the minimum amount is not enough to cover the costs of a common accident. While it is always necessary to have liability coverage, getting a higher coverage amount can protect you much more effectively. It’s best to speak to a Personal Injury Lawyer Denver to provide insight into whether your coverage is sufficient.

How Much Liability Insurance Should You Carry?

The most common recommendation for liability insurance is the 100/300/50 coverage spread. This spread means coverage will provide $100,000 for bodily injury per person, $300,000 for bodily injury per accident, and finally, $50,000 for property damage.

In the above example of 100/300/50, in an accident where three people are injured, your liability insurance would cover $100,000 per person up to $300,000 and $50,000 for any damage caused to their vehicle.

Coverage can be higher than that ratio; the amount you need will depend on the assets you protect. Talk to an Injury Lawyer to identify the coverage you need for your assets.

Pros & Cons of Higher Coverage

As previously mentioned, higher coverage will protect your assets from being taken in the instance of a serious accident. The benefits of getting higher coverage include:

  • Lower out-of-pocket expenses following an accident.
  • Protect your assets from being used to cover the costs.
  • Premium costs typically don’t increase by a significant amount.

Inversely, the downside of getting higher coverage can be that your premiums go up even higher following an accident, and the monthly cost of liability insurance will be higher.

Immediate Steps After an Accident with Liability Insurance

If you are involved in an accident, do the following in order:

  1. Check yourself for injuries and any immediate life-threatening danger.
  2. Get to a safe position and contact emergency services if needed. Do not place yourself or others in danger.
  3. Exchange insurance information with the other driver involved.
  4. Lastly, report the accident to your insurance company.

In most cases, contacting a Car Accident Lawyer near you will help ensure your rights are protected. A car accident lawyer can help solve disputes and ensure the proper funds are allocated to any injured.

Conclusion

Liability Insurance is essential for protecting yourself, others, and your peace of mind while on the road. Consider the costs of your assets and what you’re willing to spend to protect them and yourself from devastating financial costs. By contacting experienced attorneys, you can find the best coverage amounts for you and your budget. Thank you, and drive safely!

Since Don Garlits’ legendary win at the inaugural Top Fuel event in 1963, the category has delivered more than six decades of edge-of-your-seat action. Now, that legacy is set to reach yet another milestone at the Bellagio of Dragstrips.

Many of the categories biggest names will be chasing the coveted Wally Parks trophy. Brittany Force grabbed win No. 900 in 2019, while reigning world champ Antron Brown powered to No. 800 during a fall showdown in Charlotte. Veteran racer Doug Kalitta picked up No. 500 back in 2002. The question is, who will etch their name in history this time?

Will one of those champions add another history-making moment, or will stars like points leader Shawn Langdon, Tony Stewart, Clay Millican, Steve Torrence, Justin Ashley, Josh Hart, Jasmine Salinas or Ida Zetterstrom rise to the occasion and capture the 1,000th Top Fuel victory?

Adding more firepower to the weekend, legends who claimed victories in previous historic races – from Garlits to Force – will be at zMAX Dragway for a special autograph session. Fans can grab special event-exclusive hero cards and have them signed to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime fan experience.

The road to 1,000 Top Fuel races have been paved by some of the biggest names in the sport.:

  • Race no. 1: 1963 NHRA Winternationals – Don Garlits, winner
  • No. 100: 1979 NHRA Mile-High Nationals – Kelly Brown, winner
  • No. 200: 1987 Dallas NHRA Nationals – Darrell Gwynn, winner
  • No. 300: 1993 Columbus NHRA Springnationals – Doug Herbert, winner
  • No. 400: 1998 NHRA Mile-High Nationals – Cory McClenathan, winner
  • No. 500: 2002 Dallas NHRA FallNationals – Doug Kalitta, winner
  • No. 600: 2007 Atlanta NHRA Southern Nationals – Brandon Bernstein, winner
  • No. 700: 2011 NHRA Mile-High Nationals – Spencer Massey, winner
  • No. 800: 2015 NHRA Carolina Nationals – Antron Brown, winner
  • No. 900: 2019 Las Vegas NHRA Nationals – Brittany Force, winner

This year’s 4-Wide weekend promises three days of nonstop adrenaline, from historic Top Fuel moments to quadruple the speed with top categories of Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle classes all gunning for a four-lane victory.

Fans won’t want to miss Friday night qualifying under the lights, where 44,000 horsepower ignites the weekend in stunning fashion. Saturday brings the Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge, delivering intense bonus racing with added stakes, leading into Sunday eliminations, where champions — and the winner of the 1,000th Top Fuel race — will be crowned.

Off-track, the action is just as hot. Nitro Alley will be buzzing all weekend with Nitro School, driver meet-and-greets, live Q&As, autograph sessions and more. The SealMaster Track Walk and immersive pre-race ceremonies will set the stage for Sunday’s electric atmosphere, all capped with a can’t-miss winner’s circle celebration. As always, every ticket is a pit pass, giving fans unmatched behind-the-scenes access to their favorite drivers and teams as they prepare for battle.

ARCA Menards Series West at Tucson Speedway
ARCA Menards Series West 150 Presented by The West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame Post-race Notes

  • Tanner Reif (No. 13 Central Coast Cabinets Toyota) scored his third career ARCA Menards Series West victory in Saturday night’s ARCA Menards West 150 at Tucson Speedway. Reif made a three-wide pass for the lead as he took the white flag and held off both Eric Johnson, Jr (No. 5 Sherwin-Williams Toyota) and Jake Bollman (No. 19 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet) to win by 0.189 seconds.
  • Reif’s last West victory came in the series’ 1000th race at Evergreen Speedway in 2022.
  • There were a total of seven lead changes among six drivers in a race that was only slowed by caution one time for just seven laps. Todd Souza (No. 3 Central Coast Cabinets Toyota), who finished eighth in his first start of the season, led the most of any driver, 53 laps.
  • Johnson and Bollman both led laps for the first time in their ARCA Menards Series West careers and both scored their best career series finish in second and third, respectively.
  • With the victory, Reif unofficially moves into a tie for the ARCA Menards Series West championship points lead with Trevor Huddleston (No. 50 High Point Racing/Racecar Factory Ford).
  • Kyle Keller (No. 71 Jan’s Towing Ford) was one of the six drivers to lead, leading eight laps early in the race after taking the lead from Huddleston at lap nine. Keller then went into tire conservation mode, but had lost too much ground to lead trio to make up in the final third of the race.
  • Caleb Schrader (No. 6 Consonus Healthcare Toyota) finished sixth in his first series start of the season.
  • Robbie Kennealy (No. 1 Jan’s Towing Ford) finished seventh, his third consecutive top-ten finish to start the 2025 season. Kennealy is the only driver to record a top-ten finish in each of the year’s first three races.
  • Strike Mamba Racing’s two drivers both finished in the top ten, with Blake Lothian (No. 51 Texas Lawbook Chevrolet) in ninth and Cody Dennison (No. 72 Timcast Chevrolet) in tenth.
  • The next race for the ARCA Menards Series West is at Colorado National Speedway on Saturday, May 24. The race will be streamed live on FloRacing. LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Extends with Protection Brand D3O

STATESVILLE, N.C. (APRIL 7, 2025) – LEGACY MOTOR CLUB today announced an extension of the partnership with D3O®, (pronounced dee-three-oh) the world’s leading protection brand, protecting people and the things they love against impact, vibration, and shock.

The partnership with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB began in 2024 with D3O providing the LEGACY MC pit crew with impact protection for limbs and shock absorption for underfoot. D3O’s iconic orange materials were also inserted into strategic areas of the race cars to not only protect the drivers from impact but to also reduce the vibrations in the car which causes significant driver fatigue.

Since partnering in 2024, the CLUB has increased its use in more real-life scenarios where protection is vital. The pit crews are currently incorporating D3O protection in over-the-wall knee padding, full-sleeve arm padding, and shoe insoles. The feedback has been positive from the athletes, as recently the No. 42 pit crew made a remarkable 8.68-second pit stop – their fastest four-tire and fuel stop to date—picking up nine spots for driver John Hunter Nemechek in the standings.

“Pit road dominance demands unwavering commitment in tight quarters,” said Pit Crew Director Chis Hall. “We equip our pit road athletes with D3O. This ensures maximum athleticism and unyielding protection during high-speed maneuvers and critical adjustments. In the tenths-of-a-second environment of pit road, our D3O partnership is a key play for peak performance.”

The orange-branded D3O Protected logo will be featured as an associate partner on all LEGACY MC Toyota Camry’s throughout the 2025 season.

D3O’s patented orange protection material available in many different forms is engineered for specific markets and applications and serves to protect athletes at all levels of the sport with low-profile impact protection that doesn’t compromise performance.

“Our partnership with LEGACY MC continues to grow, and we take great pride in providing the team with best-in-class protection,” said Richard Harfoot, Head of Motorsports at D3O. “The team is constantly finding innovative ways to integrate D3O’s protective orange materials, enhancing driver safety by reducing impact and vibrations inside the car. At the same time, we’re working together to help keep the pit crew safer. LEGACY MC is pushing the boundaries of safety and performance in NASCAR, and we’re proud to support their commitment to innovation.”

“We are happy to extend our partnership with D3O and dive deeper into the many collective resources to take the relationship to the next level,” said Jimmie Johnson, LEGACY MC co-owner. “We want to keep our teams protected on pit road and our drivers protected in the cars, and D3O has really helped us step up our safety game.”
