Briscoe earns career-high 10th top-five finish; 23XI places two in the top-10

WATKINS GLEN, NY (August 10, 2025) – Christopher Bell led Toyota with a runner- up finish in the NASCAR Cup Series race from Watkins Glen International on Saturday afternoon.

Bell was one of four Toyota drivers inside the top-10 finishers. His Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Chase Briscoe, earned his career-high 10th top-five finish with still 12 races to go in the season, while 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick finished in eighth and ninth.

With today’s results, Reddick nearly clinched a Playoff berth on points. The California-native will look to lock up Toyota’s fifth Playoff berth at Richmond Raceway next Saturday.

What ultimately was the difference today?

“I guess it would have been that final stage, just strategy kind of got flipped. The 88 (Shane van Gisbergen) and the 1 (Ross Chastain) and myself kind of started right there in the mid pack. The restart didn’t go me or the 1’s way, the 88 was able to get five spots ahead of us before of us on the first lap and kept pulling further and further away. I thought our car was – I don’t know what the 88 had – but I thought we were probably the second-best race car. That restart just didn’t go our way and we lost a lot of track position and obviously was able to play the long game there in the end and come home top-five. Overall, a good solid finish in a fast Bass Pro Shops Camry. We will go onto Richmond and see what we can do.”

“Indy was life changing, right? It allowed me to come here and not harp on all of the mistakes that I usually make at a road course and figure out how to make less. I think we did that. I don’t think our car was capable of winning at all, but 10th to 12th place is where we determined our team is a couple months ago, and we exceeded that, so that’s a win. I appreciate everyone on this McDonaldland Toyota Camry. It looked good. My suit was the best one in the game. All around fun weekend. The big boss was here. MJ (Michael Jordan, co-owner, 23XI Racing) was here, so good to get him a couple of top-10s.”

Do you feel like the improvement of the road course program showed today?

“No, not really. We were still struggling honestly. Everyone on the No. 45 Beast Toyota Camry did a good job executing strategy. We faded pretty hard at the end there. It was good that it worked out and we were able to get a top-10 out of it, but yeah, we didn’t qualify good, and we couldn’t make any progress at the start. So very fortunate, but overall good points day.”

Van Gisbergen Collects Fourth-Straight Road Course Win at Watkins Glen

  • Shane van Gisbergen made yet another statement in NASCAR history – driving his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet to his fourth-straight road course win in NASCAR’s top division. The 36-year-old Auckland, New Zealand, native is just the third different driver to accomplish the feat – joining the company of fellow Team Chevy driver, Chase Elliott, and career Chevrolet driver, Jeff Gordon.
  • Van Gisbergen’s victory – Chevrolet’s 23rd all-time at Watkins Glen and 11th thus far this season – brings the Trackhouse Racing driver to a tie for the title as the winningest driver in NASCAR’s top division with 24 races complete.

  • Taking the green flag for Stage Two from the fifth position, it took just five laps around the upstate New York circuit for Shane van Gisbergen to find his way to the top position in his No. 88 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet. Opting to flip the stage once again, Van Gisbergen found his spot in the 12th position to begin the final 46 laps of the race.
  • To no surprise, it was a quick march up the field for the 36-year-old Auckland, New Zealand, native – ultimately taking the lead from then-race leader Ryan Blaney at the 54-lap marker. With a green-flag pit cycle getting underway at the halfway point of the final stage, crew chief Stephen Doran called Van Gisbergen to pit road with 27 laps to go in the race. Returning to the circuit, Van Gisbergen led the pack of cars that had already pitted – finding himself in the runner-up position when the race hit 20 laps to go. Then race leader, Brad Keselowski, made the turn to pit road for his final scheduled stop with 16 laps remaining – moving the No. 88 Chevrolet to the lead en route to the team’s fourth trip to victory lane in NASCAR’s top division this season.

“It was good to qualify in the top-five this weekend and our ECR engines showed a lot of power. The No. 8 zone Chevrolet was one of the fastest cars on the track through the first two stages and we were running at the front. We lost lot of track position at roughly the halfway point after on track contact and worked to make it back up and finished inside the top-25. Now we’ll focus on Richmond and racing our way into the playoffs.”

There were a lot of strategies today. What was this race like from the driver’s seat with managing tires and all of the variables that were given to you?

“Yeah, it was really tough there at the end. To have to run 18 laps on those tires in practice was difficult, and then to put 36 laps on them, I was just hanging on there at the end. I learned a lot there at the end, just with how to conserve for the next time. The last 10 laps were really difficult, but glad we could get a top-five finish.”

What is the outlook now for the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet team with two races to go in the regular season?

“I think we had a pretty good points day. The first stage didn’t go probably how we anticipated. I got really loose across the carousel and almost spun out. And then after that, I think we did a good job. We had a good strategy – the one stop ended up being really good. We were able to have some decent pace and it just worked out.”

What were the challenges today and how did it unfold from the driver’s seat?

“Well, the No. 12 car was amazing. He was really good at the start; driving well and I couldn’t pass him. Then all the strategies happened through Stage Two. I think it was that restart in the final stage that got me up closer to the front and we could run a bit longer.

It’s amazing. Thank you to Trackhouse, Chevrolet, WeatherTech – all of our partners. To get four of these is very, very special.”

What are you going to do to prepare with a few weeks remaining before the playoffs starts?

“That is amazing, isn’t it? Obviously, Richmond is a track we need to build on – it’s kind of like Iowa, where we made some big progress. Then Daytona, we’ll see how we end up. I really think we are building, but we have got a lot more to go. It’s just a special moment here.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

“It feels nice to get a good finish for this No. 99 Freeway Insurance Chevrolet team. For the last couple of months, I feel like we’ve had decent, top-10 speed. We just haven’t been able to execute. Today, we were able to execute a decent race. This team did a good job all day. Our Chevrolet was pretty good – I don’t know if it was good enough to win, but it was good enough to be fighting in the top-10 and that’s where we ended up.”

What is it about Watkins Glen that suits you so well?

“I’m not sure. This place (Watkins Glen International) has been good to me in the past. Like Iowa (Speedway) and Indianapolis (Motor Speedway), there’s been a lot of tracks that have been good to me in the past. We’ve just had a lot of accidents and things happen that were out of our control. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the next couple of races and get a win.”

Hauger Pads Points Lead with Dominant Portland Victory

PORTLAND, Ore. (Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025) – Dennis Hauger gave himself some breathing room in the race for the INDY NXT by Firestone championship Sunday, beating rival Caio Collet to the finish to win the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway.

Rookie Hauger expanded his lead in the INDYCAR development series to 54 points – essentially one race – over Collet with two races to go this season, both on ovals at Milwaukee (Aug. 24) and Nashville (Aug. 31). He drove his No. 28 Nammo car fielded by Andretti Global to victory over the No. 76 HMD Motorsports machine of Collet by .9353 of a second.

It was Hauger’s sixth win of the season but just his second since early June after he started the year by winning four of the first five races. Hauger clinched the series Rookie of the Year title with the victory, but his eyes are on a bigger prize.

“It’s a great day for the championship,” Hauger said. “An awesome day – back on top. Hopefully we can have a good weekend in Milwaukee and clinch the title there, as well.”

Myles Rowe finished third in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy entry, his fifth podium result of the season. Teammate Callum Hedge placed fourth in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports machine.

Salvador de Alba rounded out the top five in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global as the Andretti and Abel teams both welcomed two drivers in the top five.

As usual on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile PIR circuit, the tricky Turn 1-2 complex played a pivotal role in deciding the outcome.

Pole sitter Collet led the field to the start, with fellow front-row starter Rowe threatening him on the outside heading into Turn 1 after the green flag. Collet eased to the left to parry Rowe’s move, leaving an opening to the inside.

Hauger, who started third, pounced on that gap and was helped when both Collet and Rowe braked a bit too deeply into Turn 1 and ran wide. Hauger drove around Collet in Turn 2 for a lead he would never surrender, pacing all 35 laps.

“I was looking at Myles, and I think we both ended up a little bit deep (in Turn 1),” Collet said. “I didn’t see Dennis coming on the outside. I just misjudged it and gave Dennis the opportunity for a great move.

“I did a mistake at the most crucial part of the championship, so very frustrating for myself. But we’ll keep pushing.”

Hauger then managed the gap for the rest of the race under sunny Pacific Northwest skies, keeping Collet at bay ranging from one-half to nine-tenths of a second. Hauger also deftly used his Push to Pass power boost system to resist every charge by Collet.

The next race – and the penultimate race of the season – is INDY NXT by Firestone at the Milwaukee Mile on Sunday, Aug. 24. Hauger and Collet remain the only drivers eligible to win the season championship.

Christian Eckes was involved in an unavoidable incident in practice and did not make a qualifying lap, as the team worked to prepare the No. 16 Celsius Chevrolet for the race. Eckes started the race from 36th place and quickly made up 12 spots. Radioing that the right front tire was going away, Eckes nursed the car to lap 17, before being called to pit road for a scheduled pit stop for tires and fuel. Being told to take care of his tires, Eckes went on to finish 35th in stage 1. While much of the field pitted during the stage break, Eckes started the second stage from 13th place. After sustaining minor right front fender damage, Eckes worked to take care of his tires and finished the stage in 15th. With a strategy in place for the final stage, Eckes stayed out during the second stage break, starting the final stage from 10th. On the restart, Eckes’ left-front tire began going down, forcing him to make an unscheduled pit stop. A timely caution on lap 51 allowed Eckes to catch back up to the field, as crew chief Alex Yontz made the call to pit for the team’s final set of tires. He restarted from 24th on lap 55 and drove to 17th when the next caution came out 10 laps later. Happy with the tire fall off, Eckes stayed out under caution to restart 14th with 14 laps to go. Expertly navigating through late-race chaos, Eckes sat sixth when the caution came out with eight laps remaining. After getting pushed off track during a three-wide battle on the final restart, Eckes recovered and finished eighth, earning his 10th top-10 finish of the year.

“Very long day, but proud of the effort from our No. 16 team. Unfortunately our Celsius Chevrolet was never the same after getting wrecked in practice, and we had to fight hard to maintain pace. Between that and having a left front tire go down early in stage 3, I’ll take an eighth-place finish to end the day.” – Christian Eckes

No. 10 Race to Stop Suicide Chevrolet

Daniel Dye fired off slightly free in the No. 10 Race to Stop Suicide Chevrolet, maintaining 21st place before making his first scheduled pit stop on lap 17. Dye finished the first stage in 34th place. While much of the field pitted during the stage break, Dye started the second stage from 11th place. As the stage stayed incident free, Dye’s right-front tire went away, eventually resulting in a flat tire. Dye was forced to pit for right side tires when pit road closed, causing him to lose a lap and the opportunity for the free pass. He started the final stage in 32nd place and one lap down to the leaders. Dye sat in the free-pass position when a caution came out on lap 51, and crew chief Kevin Walter made the call for Dye to make a fuel-only stop under yellow, saving the team’s final set of tires for a late-race caution. He restarted from 29th place on lap 55. The late-race caution came, allowing the No. 10 team to execute its pit strategy, as Dye pitted for his final set of sticker tires. Overcoming a second right-front flat, Dye avoided multiple wrecks, recovering to finish 17th.

“It was a long day for this No. 10 team. After two flat right fronts, we ultimately ended up 17th, thanks to some carnage. We’ll use this next weekend off to get ready to go back to my home track.” – Daniel Dye

No. 11 Different Night Same Rodeo Chevrolet

In the opening 11 laps, McDowell reported to his team that he was loose on the right turns and would benefit from some additional right-rear grip. The team elected to flip the race’s opening stage for four tires and fuel, before finishing Stage 1 in 28th place. Following the flipped stage, McDowell cycled out eighth for the 20-lap run of Stage 2. The No. 11 Chevrolet ran the entirety of the stage in the top 10, finishing Stage 2 in sixth. Crew chief Eddie Pardue made the call to stay out at the stage break with enough fuel to run 10 laps, and McDowell started the final stage from fifth. McDowell ran in the top five until the team was in its fuel window, and he pitted with 29 laps remaining. While on pit road, a timely caution flag waved and the No. 11 returned to the track fourth with fresh tires and fuel. Restarting on the front row with 11 laps to go, McDowell took the lead into the first corner, before being passed for first. While running second, the No. 11 machine was collected in a late race wreck and was credited with a 25th-place finish.

“I felt like I had two good restarts and was able to take the lead without roughing up the No. 21 there, but it felt like he just kept trying to move me in the carousel. I hate it for everyone at Kaulig Racing; we were trying to get a trophy and had a couple shots at it. Bailey Zimmerman was at the track hanging out, so we wanted to get him to victory lane. It’s unfortunate, but that’s racing. I’m thankful for everyone at Kaulig Racing for letting me do this. It took me a little while, but then I got into a rhythm. Collet Soaks Up Pressure To Win Portland Pole

PORTLAND, Ore. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025) – Caio Collet isn’t giving up.

Collet continued his persistent pursuit of championship leader Dennis Hauger by winning the Firestone P1 Award Saturday for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway. It was Collet’s third pole of the season – all in the last three races – and his fourth career pole in the INDYCAR development series.

And there was nothing easy about this one, either.

Brazilian Collet grabbed the pole on his final lap in the second qualifying group with a top lap of 1 minute, 3.3595 seconds in the No. 76 HMD Motorsports car. The pole run essentially was a one-lap flyer, as Collet had to serve a drive-through penalty with less than two minutes left in the session for improper lane usage as he exited pit lane.

Complicating matters for Collet and all drivers in the second group was a red flag triggered by a crash by Jack William Miller in the No. 40 Abel/Miller/Vinatieri Motorsports car due to an apparent mechanical failure with just under 11 minutes left, trimming nearly eight minutes from the session.

“It was one of the toughest sessions of my life, to be honest,” Collet said. “The drive-through, I was not expecting that. My engineer came on the radio and said I only had one lap after coming out of the pits.

“So, it was really tough. But I had a really good car, and I was glad I could put together a lap. Hopefully tomorrow we can win the race.”

Collet has won three of the last five races this season to climb into second in the standings, 42 points behind Hauger. There are three races remaining this season, starting with the 35-lap contest at 1 p.m. ET Sunday (FS1, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network) on this 12-turn, 1.964-mile road course.

Myles Rowe led the first group to qualify second at 1:03.5755 in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car. That was his best qualifying performance in two seasons in INDY NXT, topping the third-place start in his series debut in 2024 at St. Petersburg.

Hauger will start third after his best lap in the second group of 1:03.4152 in the No. 28 Nammo machine of Andretti Global. Callum Hedge will join him in the second row of the starting grid after qualifying fourth at 1:03.6185 in the No. 17 Abel Motorsports car.

Bryce Aron tied his career-best start of fifth with his lap of 1:03.8284 in the No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing machine. Salvador de Alba qualified on the outside of the third row in sixth at 1:03.8486 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi car of Andretti Global.

Zilisch wins the NASCAR Xfinity Series Mission 200 at The Glen

Connor Zilisch cruised to victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Mission 200 at Watkins Glen International.

Zilisch drove away from Sam Mayer and Sammy Smith after a restart with four laps to go, following a big multi-car crash that placed the race into red flag conditions.

With this win, Zilisch earned his sixth win of the season and is in a great position for the NXS playoffs.

Zilisch’s victory lane celebration didn’t last long. While climbing out of his car, he slipped with his feet tangled in the netting and fell hard onto the pavement. Safety crews secured him to a backboard and loaded him into an ambulance.

Team owner, JR Motorsports, posted the following update on social media.

“As stated in the media center by NASCAR, Connor Zilisch is awake and alert and being transported to a local hospital for further evaluations.”

Update: Zilisch posted to social media Saturday night about the nature of his injuries, indicating that his collarbone was broken.

The ending of the race was chaotic as Zilisch made contact with his teammate Shane Van Gisbergen with 17 laps to go, battling for the lead. Van Gisbergen’s race ended early as he headed to the garage, finishing 31st.

Then, on Lap 74, the caution and red flag came out after a huge multi-car crash that brought out the red flag.

It began as Michael McDowell was turned by Austin Hill off of Turn 5. The drivers involved included Jesse Love, Preston Pardus, Daniel Dye, William Sawalich, Kaz Grala, Dean Thompson, Jeb Burton, Kyle Sieg, Ryan Sieg, Anthony Alfredo, Nick Sanchez, Taylor Gray, Ryan Ellis, and Josh Bilicki.

The race restarted on Lap 79 with Zilisch capturing the victory by a margin of 2.326 seconds over Sam Mayer. Sammy Smith, Austin Hill, and Carson Kvapil rounded out the top 5 finishers.

The race featured 17 lead changes among nine drivers, and seven caution flags for 20 laps.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Daytona International Speedway for the Wawa 250 Powered By Coca-Cola on Friday, August 22, at 7:30 pm ET on the CW Network.

After the Mission 200 at The Glen, Connor Zilisch leads the series standings over Justin Allgaier by 7 points, Sam Mayer by 24 points, Jesse Love by 92 points, and Austin Hill by 133 points.

The Xfinity Series has a week off but returns on Friday, Aug. 22, at Daytona International Speedway for the Wawa 250 Powered By Coca-Cola at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on The CW with radio coverage provided by MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“I think you look at all of these road courses that you go to, Watkins Glen is almost one of the easiest to drive, which I think just brings everyone so close together. It just pulls the field so close together because the margin for error here is a lot bigger here compared to more of these technical tracks, so you just see more action, I guess, is the term for it. But just difficult to pass, and hard to get off line to make passes. I would get runs on people, and just couldn’t make much of it, and then I had three people behind me, hunting me down. It was just a difficult day for me to get momentum turned around. Given everything that went on today, glad that we got back to the top-10 in our Menards Supra.”

Was there anything you could do there?

“Not really. I didn’t even know what I hit until I saw the replay, and apparently, I hit a tire flying through the year, so that’s just our year’s luck. It is what it is. The guys brought a good SoundGear Toyota GR Supra that was as fast as Xfinity Mobile. We had some good battles throughout the day, and had some good speed no matter what happened to us in the race. We had some good restarts, and I can’t be prouder of our team.”

This was a run that you were up front all day. Is that refreshing no matter the result?

“I’m really proud. I’ve been working on road courses this whole season. I’ve been working with Jack Hawksworth in the Toyota simulator, so that has been very beneficial for me. Just anything I can do to learn, I’m trying to do.”
