This Week in Motorsports: November 4 – 10, 2024
NCS/NXS/NCTS/ARCA WEST: Phoenix Raceway – Nov. 8-10

PLANO, Texas (Nov. 6, 2024) – Championship weekend is finally here for NASCAR’s Cup, Xfinity and Truck Series as all three descend upon Phoenix Raceway to crown new champions and close out the 2024 season. The ARCA Menards Series West also competes at Phoenix to conclude its season.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCTS

Toyota drivers to battle for titles at Phoenix … Toyota drivers will be present in each of the three national series championship battles this weekend in Phoenix. Tyler Reddick, who clinched his way into the Championship 4 with a victory in Homestead, makes his first appearance in the Cup Series title race on Sunday and the maiden appearance for 23XI Racing. In the Truck Series, Corey Heim is back in the championship race for the second straight season in his quest to win his first title with TRICON Garage. Toyota will also be represented in the owner’s championship race in the Xfinity Series by the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team who’s coming off a victory by Aric Almirola in Martinsville last weekend.

One last time for Truex … For the final time this Sunday, Martin Truex Jr. will pilot the No. 19 Camry XSE with JGR as he closes his full-time Cup Series career. Truex will make his 469th Cup Series start with Toyota this weekend, 215 of those with JGR, at Phoenix where he’s made 37 previous starts in his Cup Series career, including a victory in 2021. Entering the weekend, Truex has 34 career wins, 147 top-fives and 291 top-10s to go along with 24 career poles in the Cup Series.

Bell seeks Phoenix sweep … The Phoenix Spring race was a strong one for Team Toyota, ending with a victory by Christopher Bell. The Oklahoma native led 50 laps, including the final 41, on his way to the win, which was his first of three so far in the 2024 season. A win this weekend would give Bell the season sweep at Phoenix and his 10th career Cup Series victory.

Toyota continues pole streak … Team Toyota has had the pace in Cup Series qualifying over the last several weeks with the Camry XSE race car, earning the last three pole positions heading to Phoenix this weekend. Bell started the streak at Las Vegas, Reddick followed at Homestead and Truex got last week’s pole at Martinsville Speedway, which was the 14th for Toyota so far this season.

Johnson back in No. 84 to close 2024 … Jimmie Johnson returns to the No. 84 Camry XSE with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB this weekend in Phoenix for his ninth and final start of 2024. Johnson makes his 698th career Cup Series start this weekend and his 36th career start at Phoenix, where he as scored four wins, 16 top-fives and 22 top-10s in those starts.

Smith also goes for Phoenix sweep … Like Bell, Chandler Smith heads to Phoenix this weekend aiming for a season sweep at the one-mile short oval in the Xfinity Series. Smith led 88 of the 205 laps on his way to victory in March for his second career Xfinity Series win. Phoenix Raceway has been a strong track for Smith in his career, with top-10 finishes in each of his three starts there.

Earnhardt back in No. 26 … To close the Xfinity Series season, Jeffrey Earnhardt is back behind the wheel of the No. 26 GR Supra for Sam Hunt Racing this weekend in Phoenix. This will be the sixth start of the season for Earnhardt in the Xfinity Series this season, with a best finish of eighth at Atlanta. He’s also made 10 previous starts at Phoenix in the Xfinity Series entering this weekend.

Creed continues hot streak … Sheldon Creed has had a strong finish to the 2024 Xfinity Series season after another top-10 finish at Martinsville last weekend. Creed comes into the weekend with at least a top-10 finish in 12 of the last 14 Xfinity Series races, with top-five finishes in six of the last 10 races. That streak could continue as Creed has routinely been strong at Phoenix Raceway, with four consecutive top-10 finishes there as well.

Sawalich does triple duty … It’s been a busy run for William Sawalich since he turned 18-years-old in October, which continues this weekend in Phoenix as he’ll run the ARCA Menards Series West, Truck Series and Xfinity Series races – three races in two days. The Minnesotan will make his debut at Phoenix in the Tundra TRD Pro and GR Supra but will make his third start in an ARCA Toyota Camry, coming off a dominating win at Phoenix in the spring where he led all 115 laps.

Friesen returns to favorable Phoenix … Stewart Friesen comes back to Phoenix Raceway where he’s found success over the course of his Truck Series career. The Canadian has made eight starts at the one-mile short track, where he’s finished inside the top-10 in six of those, which includes his 2019 victory.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series West

Crews back in Toyota Camry … Toyota Development Driver Brent Crews returns behind the wheel of a Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry this weekend in Phoenix for the ARCA Menards Series West finale. Crews has made four starts so far this season in ARCA competition, coming into the weekend with three straight top-fives, which includes his win at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in September.

Martinsville (Va.) Speedway | National Debt Relief 250 Race Recap: The 32nd race of the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season kicked off with a fall trip to Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Saturday, November 2, 2024.

In his Martinsville return, Lupton and the AM Racing team led by crew chief Ryan “Pickle” London worked hard to improve the balance of their race car from practice to qualifying.

Picking up the pace, despite battling a loose No. 15 Lupton Excavation | AirBox Ford Mustang in qualifying, Lupton qualified on speed and started the 250-lap penultimate race of the season from the 31st starting position.

Throughout the race, Lupton was on the move, inching forward; Lupton had worked inside the top 20 when the car fell off the jack during a pit stop. Because of the miscue, Lupton lost his lead lap status.

Luckily, Lupton got the free pass quickly and began his march back through the field. Over the final sprint to the finish, he hustled from 30th and contended for a top-15 finish before settling for a 20th-place result at the checkered flag.

The finish bested Lupton’s 24th-place run with AM Racing in his team debut at Talladega Superspeedway in October.

From the Pit Box: Industry veteran Ryan “Pickle” London is Dylan Lupton’s crew chief.

He will be crew chief for his 33rd NASCAR Xfinity Series race and his third at Phoenix Raceway.

In his previous 32 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, he has collected two top-10 finishes, including a career-best ninth at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International with Joey Logano in September 2024 for AM Racing.

“I am very thankful that we have an extended practice this weekend. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been to Phoenix, but between ARCA, the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, and the Xfinity Series, I have turned a lot of laps there.

“Track position is going to be important, so we will continue to work on the balance of our No. 15 Lupton Excavation | AirBox Ford Mustang to ensure we stay in the hunt for all 200 laps.”

The Power of UV-Resistant Coatings: A Closer Look at Polyurea

UV-resistant coatings have revolutionized how we safeguard materials exposed to sunlight by providing strength and longevity amidst environmental pressures. When considering coatings for protection from UV rays harm on surfaces, polyurea emerges as a standout choice due to its distinctive qualities. This article will delve into the significance of UV resistance the crucial role played by polyurea and why it remains an option across various sectors.

The Significance of UV Protection in Coating Applications

The sun’s rays carry UV light that can break down objects gradually over time. The surfaces under sunlight can lose their strength and start showing signs, like color changes and cracks, that eventually worsen. In the field of coatings, it is crucial to have UV protection to maintain the durability and appearance of structures when exposed to sunlight. Lack of this safeguard can deteriorate equipment, cars, and buildings, leading to increased upkeep expenses and shorter life spans.

Unraveling the Science of UV Protection

UV resistant coatings function by utilizing chemical connections to soak up or redirect UV radiation instead of allowing it to harm the coating’s integrity through degradation caused by UV energy exposure over time. Notch UV-resistant coatings also shield against the detrimental outcomes linked with extended exposure, like color fading and material becoming brittle without losing its core properties as time progresses. Polyurea stands out in this aspect as it establishes a safeguard that can absorb and steer UV light away to maintain the durability of the underlying substance.

Reasons Behind Polyurea Superiority in UV Damage

Polyurea has become well known for its dependable characteristics, making it a popular option for various uses. Polyurea’s ability to resist UV rays is especially impressive. Unlike coatings, polyurea can endure exposure to direct sunlight without losing its protective properties. This toughness is due to the composition of polyurea, which creates a strong coating capable of retaining its form and strength over time.

The Impact of polyurea on Prolonged Material Durability

Polyurea’s ability to withstand UV damage plays a role in prolonging the durability of protected materials by creating a strong and flexible barrier that shields surfaces from the harmful effects of sunlight. This protective layer prevents cracking and color fading, ensuring a lasting, stable surface finish. It proves to be especially valuable in industries like construction, automotive and marine, where assets are constantly exposed to weather conditions for extended periods. It helps maintain the look of buildings and cars while reducing the frequency of repainting required to keep them looking good and saving on maintenance expenses.

Real Life Uses of polyurea That Set Them Apart

polyurea coatings have shown their efficiency in settings and conditions. In settings where the damaging effects of UV rays and saltwater corrosion are prevalent poly urethane provides a durable solution that can resist both factors. Likewise, in the construction industry, poly urethane ensures protection for exposed surfaces such as roofs, walls and parking areas. Its applications also include vehicles where UV resistant poly urethane coatings shield against long hours of sunlight exposure, keeping them safe, from fading and harm.

In the scenarios mentioned above in every case, polyurea UV-resistant features safeguard the look and the underlying surfaces’ structural strength. The coating’s flexibility enables it to adjust to temperature changes and withstand harm. This flexibility makes polyurea a top-notch option for challenging uses in situations where temperature shifts, sun exposure and physical wear converge.

Unveiling the Secrets of polyurea Ability to Resist UV Light

Polyurea’s UV resistance is due to its makeup that creates a strong surface barrier, against UV rays penetrating it. Unlike some coatings that may deteriorate with time polyurea bond strength remains intact This structural stability allows polyurea to withstand sunlight without displaying any signs of wear even after long periods. This leads to a protective coating that not only guards surfaces but also boosts their longevity ensuring they last a long time

Exploring the Cost Efficiency of polyurea in Providing UV Protection as a Coating Alternative

While polyurea training may involve an upfront cost compared to other options at first application stage their durability proves to be a wise investment in the long run due to their ability to withstand UV damage and physical wear over time. This durability reduces the need for reapplications ultimately saving resources and minimizing operational downtime. For businesses and individuals looking for a solution that offers both lasting strength and low maintenance requirements polyurea magazine emerge as a practical choice. Their resilience to prolonged exposure to sunlight, without compromising effectiveness, makes them a smart and sustainable investment.

Opting for polyurea for Extended Protection Against UV Rays

While coatings that resist UV rays in general contribute to extending the life of surfaces exposed to sunlight polyurea takes it up a notch by providing a versatile solution tailored to different industries’ needs.

In today’s world, where strength and efficiency are factors to consider, polyurea is a reliable choice that can withstand UV exposure while meeting high standards effectively.. Whether its used in settings or applied to structures and vehicles, the UV resistance of polyurea promotes sustainable maintenance practices by minimizing the need for frequent repairs and replacements.. For individuals looking for a versatile solution, polyurea provides a protective option that caters to the current emphasis placed on durability and lasting quality.

NASCAR reveals extensive Martinsville penalty report

Photo by John Knittel for SpeedwayMedia.com.

NASCAR levied major penalties to three Cup Series teams for violating the sport’s Member Conduct sections within the Rule Book following this past weekend’s Round of 8 finale at Martinsville Speedway that occurred on Sunday, November 3.

The teams that were affected under the penalty report were Trackhouse Racing’s No. 1 Chevrolet team piloted by Ross Chastain, Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Chevrolet team piloted by Austin Dillon and 23XI Racing’s No. 23 Toyota team piloted by Bubba Wallace.

In the closing laps of last Sunday’s event at Martinsville, both Chastain and Dillon were performing a side-by-side roadblock for oncoming competitors while remaining behind Chevrolet teammate William Byron, who was racing in sixth place at the time of the actions made between Chastin and Dillon. By then, the handling of Byron’s No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet entry was fading as Byron was trying to retain his sixth-place spot that would enable him to claim the fourth and final berth to the Championship 4 round by a single point over Christopher Bell, who was racing a lap down in 19th place.

Then prior to the final lap, Bubba Wallace, a Toyota teammate to Bell who was racing in 18th place and had been lapped earlier by the leaders, began to fall off the pace as he radioed a potential tire going down on his No. 23 Toyota entry. With Byron, Dillon, Chastain and a host of competitors overtaking Wallace’s slow entry through the frontstretch on the final lap, Bell then caught up to Wallace through the backstretch. Just as Bell overtook Wallace entering Turn 3 for 18th place, he got loose and hit the outside wall. Bell then proceeded to accelerate and scrape his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota entry through Turns 3 and 4 before he crossed the finish line. As a result, Bell initially overtook Byron in the Playoff standings to claim the final transfer spot to the Championship 4 round.

Following an extensive review of the finish, however, Bell was levied a safety violation for maneuvering his way to the finish line while scraping the outside wall through Turns 3 and 4 since the move had been banned for future use, particularly since the start of the 2023 season amid Ross Chastain’s use of it in November 2022. As a result, Bell was demoted to 22nd place in the final running order, which kept him four points out of making his third consecutive Championship 4 appearance. In the process, Byron was awarded the final transfer berth as he is set to square off against reigning series champion Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano and Tyler Reddick for the 2024 Cup Series championship this upcoming weekend at Phoenix Raceway.

Despite the Championship 4 field being determined, Elton Sawyer, NASCAR’s senior vice president of competition, then said during the post-race conference at Martinsville that officials would also examine the actions and radio dialogue made by Chastain, Dillon and Wallace over their on-track actions while racing both Bell and Byron over any forms of manipulation and to provide an advantage for one Playoff competitor over the other.

With the official determination and penalty report levied to Chastain, Dillon and Wallace on Tuesday, November 5, the trio and their respective teams have been fined $100,000 apiece and docked 50 driver/owner points. The points penalty dropped Wallace from 17th to 18th and Dillon from 28th to 34th in the driver’s standings, respectively, while Chastain retained 19th.

In addition, each of their crew chiefs and spotters has been suspended from this upcoming weekend’s Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway. The suspensions include Chastain’s crew chief Phil Surgen and spotter Brandon McReynolds, Dillon’s crew chief Justin Alexander and spotter Brandon Benesch, and Wallace’s crew chief Bootie Barker and spotter Freddie Kraft. Tony Lunders, Keith Rodden and Dave Rogers, all of whom serve as team executives for Trackhouse Racing, Richard Childress Racing and 23XI Racing, respectively, have also been suspended for participating in the finale.

Following the announcement of the penalties, Richard Childress Racing, Trackhouse Racing and 23XI Racing declared plans to appeal the penalties.

The penalties to Chastain, Dillon, Wallace and their respective teams were not the only penalties levied from this past weekend’s triple-header events at Martinsville. In addition to Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet team, Richard Childress Racing’s No. 8 Chevrolet team piloted by Kyle Busch was assessed a safety violation due to a loose left-front wheel that detached off of Busch’s entry entering Turn 3 and prior to a restart with 94 laps remaining. As a result, front-tire changer Michael Russell and jackman Josh Sobecki were levied a two-race suspension, including the 2024 Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium. Following the incident, Busch would proceed to finish 28th place, three laps down.

In the Xfinity Series, Chandler Smith, who finished in third place during last Saturday’s Round of 8 finale at Martinsville, was fined $10,000 for being involved in a post-race altercation with Cole Custer, where the former swung a punch to the latter to express his displeasure over being bumped by Custer, who retaliated from being bumped by Smith earlier, during a late-race restart that knocked Smith out of contention to making the Championship 4 round. Meanwhile, Custer, who finished fourth at Martinsville, was able to claim a Championship 4 berth as he will square off against Justin Allgaier, AJ Allmendinger and Austin Hill to defend his series’ title at Phoenix.

In the Craftsman Truck Series, Ty Majeski, who finished in 11th place during last Friday’s Round of 8 finale at Martinsville, was fined $12,500 for not performing a media obligation. The fine did not affect Majeski’s outcome of making the Championship 4 field as he is set to square off against Christian Eckes, Grant Enfinger and Corey Heim for the series’ title at Phoenix.

Next on the schedule is the 2024 season-finale events for NASCAR’s top three national touring series at Phoenix Raceway, where a champion in each series will be crowned. The Craftsman Truck Series finale at Phoenix is scheduled to occur this Friday, November 8, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1 while the Xfinity Series finale will follow suit this Saturday, November 9, at 7 p.m. ET on the CW Network. The Cup Series finale will cap off the weekend on Sunday, November 10, at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
