QUOTES

Carl Edwards on racing at Daytona International Speedway : “We’re going for three in a row coming off wins in the last two races of the season last year.

I think it’s really anybody’s race with the new surface and you’re going to see a different style of racing than we’ve seen at Daytona in a long time, maybe ever.  I still haven’t exactly decided how to approach the race.  We’ll have to see how the Duels go with the rule changes NASCAR implemented since the Shootout, and we’ll see what we are left with to make all of our decisions.

I think it looks to be one of the most anticipated Daytona 500s in a long time.”   Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Daytona International Speedway : “The Duels on Thursday will be a good test for the 500. Since NASCAR made some changes to the cooling system after the Shootout we’ll have to see how that affects the racing compared to what we saw in the Shootout.   We’ve got a good car so we need to stay out of trouble in the Duels and be there at the end to have a shot at winning the 500.”

FAST FACTS

* CARL EDWARDSreturns to Daytona International Speedway for his seventh Daytona 500, and his 13th overall Sprint Cup start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

* 2010 STATS…Last season Edwards accumulated two wins, nine top-five 19 top-10 finishes and three poles. He led 427 laps of competition to finish fourth in the Sprint Cup point standings.

* FOR THE RECORD…Edwards’ average start at Daytona International Speedway is 17.6, his average finish is 17.7.  Edwards’ best finish at Daytona is second place, captured in July 2008.  His best finish in the Daytona 500 is ninth in last year’s race. He finished in the top 10 in both Daytona races last year.

* SHOOTOUT RECAP…Edwards started third and was scored in seventh after the first 25-lap segment.  Only a few laps after the restart Edwards was involved in a multi-car accident on lap 28 which sent him to the garage with considerable damage to the Scotts Ford resulting in a 21st-place finish.

* ON THE TRACK…The No. 99 will carry the Aflac colors Sunday for the Daytona 500. The No. 99 crew will race RK-712 for the weekend, a brand new Ford Fusion.

* REWIND, DAYTONA 500, 2010…Edwards made it interesting for his fans by starting in the back of the field after an engine change and working his way as high as second in the final laps of the race.  After two green-white-checker restarts he was shuffled back, but rebounded to finish the race ninth.
