Ford Texas Cup Qualifying

DAVID RAGAN – No. 6 UPS Ford ( ) – “I don’t know how we pulled that off but it was really fast. I have to give credit to our UPS team and Drew Blickensderfer who made a gutsy call. We made our last qualifying run in practice and we decided to change the car up a little bit. It stuck and did what it needed to do. I really like this place, it is a fun place to come and it is cool to get a pole here. Hopefully we can turn that into a good run tomorrow.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER – No. 43 Valvoline Ford ( ) – “Hopefully that will put us in the top 15 or 20. Going out early hurt us and the track is getting shady real quick here. I am proud of the gains we made today though.” “You just have to take where the race car was and make small steps on it. I think we have the car close enough so we can make small gains on it. You never really know until you drop the green though.”

MARCOS AMBROSE – No. 9 DeWalt Ford ( ) “It was good. We have been gaining on it every day and I fell really good about that you know. That is the best qualifying lap we have done all weekend through the practices and stuff. We have to keep trying to improve on it though.”

DAVID GILLILAND – No. 34 Gander Mountain Ford ( ) “It was a really good run. We had some problems yesterday in practice and we put that behind us but we were about a day behind. We went six or seven-tenths faster than we have been all weekend. I am proud of the guys and the changes they made and I feel really good about our car in race trim.”

MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Crown Royal Ford ( ) – “That was a really good lap for us. I nailed one and two. It kind of cost me. I told Jimmy it was pretty much perfect between one and two. Three is the tricky part with that big tail wind going down there. I knew I had such a good run off of two that I was probably too conservative. That might have cost us a little time but either way you look at it that was a great lap for us.”

CARL EDWARDS – No. 99 Scott’s Ford () – “We were good. I feel like that was a good lap for us but I think it might have been at the wrong time. I have a feeling there will be guys that run some screaming laps in the next 15 to 20 minutes. It is good though. We will go race tomorrow for 500 laps under the lights with our fast Scott’s Ford Fusion.”

TREVOR BAYNE – No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford ( ) – “It was okay. I think we picked up like six to eight-tenths from practice. The track is cooling down a lot so our lap won’t hold up for anything. It was a really good one and two and right up to the point where I was going to lift I couldn’t decide if I was going to go high or low in three and four and at the last minute I decided to go low and probably should have went high.”
