FROM THE COCKPIT.
Q: You’ve been one of the best at Darlington recently. What are the keys to success there?
A: “As silly as it sounds, Darlington really is one of those places where you have to race the race track. If you don’t respect that place, it’ll bite you in a hurry, especially since they repaved it. Since the repaving, it’s still has some of the characteristics of the old Darlington; it’s just a lot, lot faster. You still see big time tire wear and you still fight the same stuff, like getting forward grip off the corners. I like unique tracks like Darlington, places that are drivers’ tracks, where the tires wear out and you really have to drive the car. A lot of drivers hate the place, but you can’t have that mindset going into it, or you’re not going to be fast. Hopefully the “Lady in Black” will have some mercy on us Friday night and we’ll be able to come out of there with a top-ten or even better.”
