CORNELIUS, N.C. – No. 00 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota driver David Reutimann heads back to Daytona International Speedway this weekend – his home track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. As Reutimann returns to his home state he also gets to catch up on the progress of his Reutimann Racing dirt modified team. David’s father, Buzzie Reutimann, 70, is enjoying a successful season that has seen his Aaron’s Dream Machine go to victory lane twice at East Bay Raceway and finished no worse than third in the season.

HOW HAS YOUR SEASON GONE AS A TEAM OWNER: “My season as a team owner is going a lot better than it is as a driver. (David’s father) Buzzie (Reutimann) has raced five or six races so far this year and he has two wins. The worst he’s finished all year is third I think. I wish I were off to a good of a start as Buzzie.”
DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RACE YOU EVER WON? “I was 14 years old and it was at the Florida State Fairgrounds circa 1984. I was driving a mini-stock – a Pontiac Sunbird hatchback. I can’t remember specifically who I beat for the win – everybody I guess, but I don’t remember who came in second. I remember it was a mid-season championship that paid $200 to win, actually it may have been $400 to win, aside from the normal pay out. That was a lot of money! Or so I thought. I had raced go-karts and stuff before that, but that was my first win in a car.”
WHAT IS DIFFERENT AT DAYTONA DURING A NIGHT RACE? “Night races are just cool! The way the lighting is and the way that everything stands out. For the fans you can see if there are any sparks coming off the cars and things like that. I think it just brings a whole new feel to the race. Night racing is cool. I enjoy it. Daytona is a cool place under the lights. It almost takes you back to when you were running short track stuff only it’s obviously the furthest thing from a short track.”
DO YOU THINK DRIVERS GET MORE AGGRESSIVE AT NIGHT? “I don’t know. I think that drivers are aggressive no matter what the situation is. I think guys may get after it a little harder at night. Either that or it just feels that way some times. I think by nature racecar drivers are aggressive or maybe just really competitive when we get behind the wheel. We all just want to win.”
