Timothy Peters No. 17 Toyota Tundra NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race 12 of 25 Nashville Superspeedway
SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE: Timothy Peters calls Nashville his second home. Peters broke into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2005 driving for Bobby Hamilton Racing (BHR) which was based near Nashville Superspeedway. Peters has logged numerous laps around the track where he has experienced immense success. Over the last four trips to Nashville, Peters has scored four top-five finishes with three fourth-place runs and most recently a third-place finish earlier this season. If there is one place where Peters can extend his yearly winning streak it is this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Nashville Superspeedway was the site of Peter’s first pole win. After joining Red Horse Racing midway through the 2009 season, it only took five races before Peters recorded his first pole win at Nashville and followed it up with his first career victory at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway seven races later.
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will utilize chassis No. 001 this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway. This is the same truck that Peters sat on the pole with earlier this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Most recently this truck competed at Kentucky Speedway where the No. 17 team recorded a 16th-place finish.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP:Last week at Iowa Speedway Peters and the No. 17 team brought home an 11th-place finish. Peters fought a tight-handling race truck early in the event only to have it go to the loose side as the sun set in Iowa. Crew chief Butch Hylton made a gutsy late-race call taking only right-side tires on the final pit stop. The move placed Peters fifth for the final restart with 40 laps remaining. Peters held on to a top-10 spot before being passed with only a few laps left in the event to take the checkered flag in the 11th position.
Timothy Peters Talks about Nashville Superspeedway
What is unique about Nashville Superspeedway? “I love Nashville; it is definitely one of my favorite tracks that we go to. The unique thing about Nashville is that even though it is a superspeedway it has characteristics of a short-track. As a driver you have to combine multiple elements together to be competitive. It is also concrete which I love. The track doesn’t change all that much from practice to qualifying to the race. We have a really good package for this weekend and I’m excited to go to Nashville and put a tally in the win column.”
Nashville is known for its unique trophy. Is that something drivers think about? “Absolutely, there are coveted trophies in this series. The guitar at Nashville and the grandfather clock at Martinsville are two of the most sought after pieces of hardware in the garage area. I was lucky enough to score my first Truck Series victory at Martinsville, but that was before they gave a grandfather clock to the Truck Series winner, so I’m just going to have to go back and win another race. It is so competitive in the Truck Series right now that any win is a special one, but as a driver you are definitely aware that there are cool trophies and you want them to go home with you.”
What would it mean to you to finally break through and get a win at Nashville? “It would mean a lot to me. I still have a lot of friends in Nashville and it is the place where I really got my start in the Truck Series. I think it would give our team a lot of momentum. The No. 17 team has had a good year but a win would make it a great year.”
