Friday Night Concert Included in Fans’ Ticket Package
Watkins Glen, NY – Fans can look forward to once again rocking out to several great bands on the Red Cat Summer Stage during the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen weekend, August 11-14. The concert, featuring Marrakesh Express, The Eric Tessmer Band and Elephant Mountain, takes place on Friday, August 12 and admission is covered by the purchase of a weekend ticket. Fans should plan on being inside the Turn 10 Village, located behind the new Turn 10 Grandstand, by 7:30 PM so they do not miss a minute of the fun..
The concert on the Red Cat Summer Stage kicks off with the Indiana-based Crosby, Stills & Nash tribute act Marrakesh Express. The band replicates the four-part harmonies of the classic rock icons, and are known for their songs “Southern Cross,” “Woodstock” and “Love The One You’re With.” Marrakesh Express recently performed at the Wakarusa Music Festival, one of the largest of its kind in the United States, featuring over 70 national recording artists. The opening set promises to get the show started with a mellow vibe any fan of 60’s and 70’s classic rock is sure to enjoy.
Taking the stage next is The Eric Tessmer Band, of Austin, TX. Tessmer has been putting his own stamp on Texas style rock and blues as a three piece original band. The band has played some of the same Austin clubs as music legends Stevie Ray Vaughan and BB King as well as Blues Festivals around the US. The Eric Tessmer Band recently performed as part of the renowned Montreal Jazz Festival, setting the stage for them to strike out nationally with their current release Green Diamond. The original material, known for blistering guitar solos and infectious grooves will leave NASCAR fans with no doubt that they have just witnessed one of the best up-and-coming blues acts in the country.
Closing out the show is Central New York’s own Elephant Mountain, from Syracuse. Elephant Mountain features members of the band Brand New Sin, which preformed at The Glen in 2007. Elephant Mountain has the powerful vocals of Joe Altier performing evocative lyrics and a style all their own. Their straight-up, straight-forward rock ‘n roll will remind fans of acts like The Black Crowes, The Eagles and Government Mule. Their current release, The Last Days of Planet Earth has been selling out regionally and was a top selling act via the online store CDbaby.com upon its release earlier this year.
