No. 32 Dollar General Chevrolet News and Notes

. Holding On To the Top Two – Even after a bit of a frustrating weekend at Lucas Oil Raceway, Reed Sorenson and the No. 32 Dollar General team held on to the second spot in the championship point standings with a ninth-place finish. Sorenson trails leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. by just three markers. The last time Sorenson fell below the second position was six weeks ago, after an 11th-place finish at Michigan International Speedway.

. A Tale of Two Starts At Iowa Speedway – It has been feast or famine for Sorenson at the .875-mile short track in the “Hawkeye State”. In his first start last season, Sorenson was collected in an early accident on lap 41 and earned a 36th-place finish. His 2011 start was a much different story with Sorenson posting a fourth-place finish after starting fifth and leading 77 laps.

. Sorenson Season to Date – Consistency continues to be the name of the game for Sorenson and the Dollar General team. After 21 races, Sorenson owns one win, seven top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. He has an average starting position of 11.0 and an average finish of 9.3 on the season.

. Hoping To Go Two-for-Two in the Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash – The second of four Nationwide Series Dash 4 Cash (D4C) races will take place this weekend at Iowa Speedway. Because he took home the $100,000 prize from the first D4C race at Daytona International Speedway, Sorenson became eligible for the second race this weekend. He will join teammates Justin Allgaier and Jason Leffler, along with Michael Annette in racing for the $100,000 prize.

. First Annual Nationwide Series Farmathalon – On Friday morning, Sorenson and the other three D4C competitors will compete in a Farmathalon at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa. The drivers will compete in three different activities including a horse-drawn carriage race along with a cow milking and corn shucking contest. The driver with the lowest combined time will have a donation made to the charity of their choosing.

. This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Sorenson will pilot TMS-126 in the U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway. This car has been raced at Dover International Speedway as well as New Hampshire Motor Speedway, finishing third and 16th respectively, and was taken to the team’s test session at the Milwaukee Mile.

Sorenson on his second chance at Iowa and the D4C:

“I’m excited that we have a second chance to run at Iowa this year. I guess I feel like we have some unfinished business to take care of at the track. We ran so well there in May and definitely had a chance to win the race had it not been for that tire issue. I think it’s cool too that the second Dash 4 Cash race is at a short track this time as opposed to it being at a track like Daytona. You never know what kind of beating and banging will go on during a Saturday night short track race, especially with that kind of cash on the line. Having my teammates compete for the prize will be fun. It means we have a good shot of keeping the money in the Turner Motorsports family.”
