Mooresville, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2011) – Pocono Raceway is known to NASCAR fans as the tricky triangle. The oval course has three turns, instead of four, and it boasts exciting action because of the unique corners, long straightaways and subsequent high speeds. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to Pocono for its second race and Brendan Gaughan will race the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra there in his first Truck Series race at the ‘triangle.’
“It’s been a while since I’ve actually raced Pocono Raceway. Back when I drove it, we shifted and ran a ridiculously high RPM. I really like it. There’s one flat turn that reminds you of a St. Louis or Milwaukee only about 30 miles per hour faster. The tunnel turn- if you hit the curbing on the inside too hard it’s like an off-road jump. When you are on the front straightaway, all you see in front of you is wall at the end and it looks like there’s no way you will be able to make the turn. It’s exciting that the Trucks get to race there and I’m looking forward to seeing what our South Point Hotel & Casino Tundra will do,” said Gaughan who had two appearances at Pocono in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Gaughan has been racing in the Truck Series for many years, but he was on full-time assignment in the NASCAR Nationwide Series last season when the Trucks made their debut at Pocono. The 50-lap Pocono 125 shootout will be an new experience for the Las Vegas native.
Chassis TRD-026 has been chosen for Gaughan to race at Pocono. Gaughan has scored his top-five and all of his top-ten finishes this season in this Tundra. His best finish is third at Kentucky Speedway.
