QUOTES

Carl Edwards on racing at Phoenix:

“I love going to Phoenix. The weather looks like it’s going to be great, and I’m really excited to see how the track has aged over the winter. I thought the surface was very racy last time we were there and I think everyone is excited to see if it gets even better for the race this weekend. This is a huge race for us being the Subway Fresh Fit 500 and we’re racing the Subway Ford so a win would be huge. A year ago we felt like we had the fastest car and got it torn up early in the race, so it would be wonderful to go back there again and be able to win this thing.”

Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Phoenix:

“I really like the new track configuration at Phoenix and I’m interested to see how the surface has aged since our last race there. Carl runs so well there and we are taking a new car that will hopefully get us to victory lane. We survived Daytona with an eighth-place finish so a solid run at Phoenix will help establish our standing in the points early in the season.”

FAST FACTS

CARL EDWARDS enters Phoenix eighth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings trailing the leader by 11 points after his eighth-place finish in the Daytona 500.

FOR THE RECORD… In 15 starts at the one-mile track, Edwards has one win, six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. His average start is 10.9 and average finish is 12.3.  Edwards has completed 93.9 percent (4460 of 4750) of laps in Cup competition attempted at Phoenix.

IN THE LOOP… According to NASCAR’s Loop Statistics compiled over the last 15 races at Phoenix, Edwards has turned 284 of the track’s fastest laps (second most), spent 3139 laps in the top 15, and has led 228 laps.  He has a driver rating of 101.3 (second best).

ON THE TRACK… The No. 99 crew will unload RK-801 at Phoenix. This is a brand new car and the first of six races where Subway will be the primary sponsor.

REWIND, PHOENIX, FEBRUARY 2011… Edwards won the pole and hoped for a repeat performance of his win there in 2010.  After leading twice for 21 laps Edwards had a strong Ford Fusion, but an incident with Kyle Busch early in the race dashed his hopes of another trip to victory lane at Phoenix resulting in a 28th-place finish.
