Inaugural KYS Quaker State 400 Honored as CSPN Sports Event of the Year

SPARTA, Ky.  – Kentucky Speedway’s inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “Quaker State 400” has been honored as the 2011 Sports Event of the Year by the Cincinnati Sports Professional Network (CSPN) and speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger will accept the award during a Wednesday, June 6 ceremony in the Sharonville Convention Center at 11355 Chester Rd., in Sharonville, Ohio.

“Bringing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to Greater Cincinnati has been a dream come true for our entire staff. On behalf of our Speedway Motorsports, Inc., Chairman Bruton Smith, we thank CSPN for recognizing our Quaker State 400 as the top sports event in a town with many of them. We’re working hard to win this award again for 2012 and many years to come,” Simendinger said.

Cincinnati WLWT TV 5 Executive Sports Producer George Vogel will emcee the evening which will honor a combination of nine Cincinnati athletes, sports executives and sponsors along with the “Quaker State 400.” The event also will feature a special guest appearance by Joe Morgan, the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame and two-time World Series Champion Cincinnati Reds second baseman.

The ceremony begins at 6:00 p.m., with a reception and silent auction. A dinner and awards program will follow at 7:00 p.m. Event tickets are $35 for students and $75 for individuals. This year’s “Quaker State 400” is Saturday, June 30, 2012. The event anchors a tripleheader NASCAR weekend which opens with the Thursday, June 28 Camping World Truck Series “UNOH 225” and continues with the Friday, June 29 Nationwide Series “Feed The Children 300.”
