No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS
Dover International Speedway
CORNELIUS, N.C. — No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota driver Martin Truex Jr. and his NAPA KNOW HOW crew have knocked on the door of victory lane several times this season. With his hometown of Mayetta, N.J. just 131 miles from this weekend’s Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway, Truex’s perseverance may finally pay off with a second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win.
In 12 Cup starts at Dover, the Jersey boy has earned one win and four top-10 finishes. Plus, he has posted two pole positions while driving the No. 56 NAPA Toyota.
Truex on Dover: “I always look forward to Dover no matter what the situation. Aside from on the track stuff, it’s just fun to go up there. I’ve got a lot of friends and family that come to that race and that makes it extra special for me no matter what.
“I feel like Dover is probably the next track where we have a real shot to get back to victory lane. We did the tire test there a few months ago and had a really fast car there too. I always look forward to Dover but definitely more this year with the race cars we have and the team that we’ve got right now. I know we will be fast. It will be all about setting the car up for the long runs. We’ve got a great game plan going in. I think we can win the thing.”
Dover is Special: “The biggest thing is the amount of success I have had there. It’s where I made my first ever Nationwide Series start. There are just a lot of things about that place that make it so special. I mean, winning there in 2007 was a huge day for me and my family. I just look forward to going back and trying to win it all over again.”
On NAPA Team’s Chase Chances: “I feel good about our chances. We have been consistent. We have been solid. We have not made a lot of mistakes. We haven’t beaten ourselves during a race and our cars have been fast. We are doing everything we need to do right now. Obviously we want to keep chipping away at trying to get to victory lane, but it is also important for us to not lose sight at what we are trying to do here and that’s making the Chase. It’s something we have never been able to do at Michael Waltrip Racing or for NAPA. It’s been a solid start heading to the halfway mark. We’ll keep our head down and focus on reaching our goals.”
