QUOTES

Carl Edwards on racing at Michigan International Speedway:

“A win at Michigan is as big as any win on the circuit because it’s in Ford & Jack Roush’s backyard. It’s huge to be able to win a race there and we need a win right now. I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to happen with the new surface yet. Last week we were able to adapt and make our car fast, and hopefully we can do the same thing this week to get our Fastenal Ford to victory lane.”

Crew chief Bob Osborne on racing at Michigan International Speedway:

“Michigan has been a great track for us, so we’re just going to go and race the best race possible. We’re going to try to win every weekend and go from there, and then try to get the best finish possible if the win is not in the picture on that particular weekend. We’re going to accumulate as many points as we can and hopefully along the way we’ll get into victory lane. We’ve had some setbacks this season, but Michigan would be a great place for our team to rebound in a big way.”

FAST FACTS

CARL EDWARDS enters Michigan 11th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings. This season Edwards has achieved two top-five, eight top-10 finishes and one pole.

FOR THE RECORD…Edwards will make his 16th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Michigan International Speedway Sunday. In his previous 15 starts, Edwards has two wins, nine top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. His average start at Michigan is 20.9, his average finish is 8.2. He has completed 99 percent of the laps he has attempted at the two-mile track. Only three times in his previous 15 starts has Edwards finished outside the top 10.

IN THE LOOP… According to NASCAR’s Loop Statistics compiled over the last 15 races at MIS, Edwards has turned 177 of the track’s fastest laps which is third highest, spent 2,277 laps (83.2%) in the top 15 (second most) and led a total of 274 laps (third highest). Edwards’ driver rating (106.5) is the second best among active drivers.

SO YOU KNOW… Edwards made his Cup series debut at Michigan in August 2004. He started that race 23rd and finished 10th. Edwards also made his 100th Cup start at MIS in June of 2007. He went on to win that race.

ON THE TRACK… The No. 99 Fastenal Blue Team will be unloading chassis 782. Edwards last raced this car at the All Star race where he had an engine failure. He also raced it at California where he finished fifth.

REWIND, MICHIGAN – June 2011… With 10 laps to go it looked as if Edwards would sweep the weekend after winning the Nationwide race on Saturday, but a caution shuffled the field on pit road and left him in fifth place when the checkered flag flew.
