Kasey Kahne at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS), by the numbers… Though Kahne only has four NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) starts to his credit at “The Magic Mile,” his stats are pretty impressive. He has two top-fives, one top-10 and just one finish outside of 12th-place. He has an average starting position of 11.6, coupled with an average finishing position of 7.0. In last season’s event at NHMS, Kahne posted his best finish of third at the one-mile oval.

In NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition, Kahne has one top-five and six top-10 finishes, along with an average start of 14.0 and an average finish of 17.8.

Swim, bike, run… Following Saturday’s night’s race at Daytona, Kahne (as well as teammate, Brad Sweet) headed to Charleston, S.C. with friends to compete in theCharleston Sprint Triathlon Series. The event consisted of a 600-yard lake swim, 12-miles by bike and a 5K run. Impressively, Kahne finished fifth in his age group.

Happy 30th Birthday Great Clips!!!

On July 12th, Great Clips celebrates its 30th birthday!Established in 1982 in Minneapolis, Great Clips now has more than 3,000 salons throughout the United States and Canada, making it the world’s largest salon brand. The No. 38 Great Clips Chevy will feature a special paint scheme honoring the milestone in the inaugural NNS race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in two weeks.

Who’s on the pit box? Mike Shiplett joined Turner Motorsports in 2012 and has a unique role as he calls the shots for both a veteran (Kasey Kahne) and a rookie (Sweet). It is a reunion of sorts for Kahne and Shiplett, who were paired together in the NNS during the 2007 season and put down impressive results, including two victories (Charlotte Motor Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, spring events).

This Week’s Impala… The No. 38 team will unload chassis 319 this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This chassis has seen track time at Iowa, (Brad Sweet finished 13th), Richmond and Phoenix where Kahne finished 18th and 10th, respectively.

Kahne and Sweet: a unique combination… Not only are Kahne and Sweet good friends off the track, but the veteran is serving as mentor to Sweet as he makes the transition from open-wheel competition to stock cars. Sweet was handpicked by Kahne in 2008 to drive for Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR) where he has since experienced tremendous success in the World of Outlaws Series. Sweet will continue to compete on a limited basis for KKR when he is not behind the wheel of the No. 38 Great Clips machine in the NNS. You can expect Kahne to be very involved and present in the NNS garage when Sweet is behind the wheel of the No. 38, as he will closely monitor his progress and offer encouragement.

Kahne brought Great Clips their first win! From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor, Great Clips, Inc., reached momentous milestones, including capturing Kahne’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series to allow more time for his Sprint Cup Series efforts.

Great Clips goes racing with the World of Outlaws in 2012! Great Clips serves as sponsor for KKR driver Joey Saldana this year in the World of Outlaws series. The Minneapolis-based company has been a sponsor of KKR for the past two seasons. This year, they will be featured on all three KKR entries – as a primary sponsor on the #9 with Saldana as well as associate sponsor placement on Brad Sweet’s #49 and Cody Darrah’s #5 World of Outlaws cars.

12 Years and Counting… Great Clips, Inc. is currently the longest-running sponsor in the NNS and has used the Nationwide Series as their primary marketing platform for the last 11 years. Their sponsorship began in 2000 with Akins Motorsports as they climbed on board to sponsor the team’s No. 38 entry with driver, Christian Elder. Mark Green piloted the No. 38 for one season before general manager, Doug Stringer, hired up-and-coming talent, Kasey Kahne, thereby solidifying Great Clips’ commitment to their NASCAR sponsorship.

“I’m ready to get back in the Great Clips Chevy this weekend! It’s been awhile since I was last behind the wheel of that No. 38, so I’m looking forward to working with those guys again in Loudon. Great Clips is celebrating its 30th birthday this week on July 12th and I’d love to be able to honor the occasion with a win!”

McMurray on racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend

“I really enjoy racing at New Hampshire. I like the close side-by-side racing on a flat track like that. It is a challenge to get into a car and work with people that you don’t work with on a regular basis, but I know that Turner Motorsports has good equipment. This is a team that won a few weeks ago with a driver who isn’t in the car on a regular basis, so hopefully we can make the most of this opportunity.”

No. 31 BRANDT Chevrolet News and Notes

Starts Poles Wins Top-Fives Top-10’s DNFs Avg. Start Avg. Finish

Weekend Rewind: Daytona II – Justin Allgaier survived a wild race on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway, which included three- and four-wide racing, the “big one” and finally, being in a position to win at the end. After leading seven laps throughout the event, Allgaier was searching for a “dancing partner” at the end of the race and thought he had found one with the No. 12 car. Unfortunately, as the green flag dropped on the green-white-checkered finish, the two cars just could not stay connected and the BRANDT car crossed the finish line in the seventh spot. The finish was Allgaier’s sixth top-10 in the last seven races

Allgaier at New Hampshire Motor Speedway – Allgaier has made three starts at the “Magic Mile” in New Hampshire, recording two top-10 finishes with his highest finish of sixth coming in 2010. He has an average starting position of 8.7 coupled with an average finish of 9.7. Allgaier has completed 100 percent of the 606 laps he’s attempted. In last year’s event, Allgaier finished 10th after starting eighth.

Mounting A Comeback – Over the past 10 races, Allgaier has methodically worked his way solidly back in the top-five in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver’s championship points battle and is currently 72 points out of the lead and 37 points out of fourth place. Over the past 10 races, Allgaier is ranked third in the number of points scored (356), just seven behind the leader (363).

Loving the Magic Mile(s) – Allgaier has done well on tracks measuring a mile in length throughout his career. Of drivers who have competed in the last 10 races on mile-long tracks, Allgaier ranks second in points gained (708), trailing only Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. In those 10 races, Allgaier has scored one top-five and six top-10 finishes.

This Week’s Impala – This weekend, Allgaier will climb into TMS-320 for the F.W. Webb 200 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This chassis was raced previously this season at Iowa Speedway (fifth), Richmond International Raceway (15th) and Phoenix International Raceway (15th).

Allgaier on heading to New England and the “Magic Mile”:

“While in my opinion, flat tracks aren’t exactly my cup of tea, but I seem to do fairly well at them so I’m learning to enjoy them more. I wasn’t really aware of my stats at flat, one-mile tracks until just recently and I’d really like to pad them up some more this weekend. It’s also Jimmy’s (Elledge, crew chief) birthday on Saturday, and it’d be really great to give him a one-of-a-kind present with a trip to victory lane. I know it’s something he, and this BRANDT team wouldn’t forget anytime soon.”
