Kenseth’s visit is part of NASCAR’s Chase Across America in advance of the start of the Chase for The Sprint Cup, which begins this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway and culminates November 18 with the championship-crowning Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The 2012 Daytona 500 winner and 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion spent the day on the base – the busiest and most active in the U.S. Coast Guard. Activities Tuesday included: Kenseth having lunch with the crew; participating in a question-and-answer session with Coast Guard personnel; going out to sea aboard the USCGC Diamondback where he drove the boat, led a man overboard simulation, participated in maneuvers, went out in the “Small Boat,” which he also drove, before being part of an at-sea transfer to a Fast Boat.
Matt Kenseth on his visit to U.S. Coast Guard Base Miami Beach:
“The day was great. It was neat to learn more about the Coast Guard. I really enjoyed getting to see the machines, and getting to know the people behind the boats and equipment.”
The U.S. Coast Guard’s Anthony Kaminski regarding the visit:
“It is nice to have people who want to give back to the military like Matt is doing along with NASCAR and Homestead-Miami Speedway. We enjoy it because they can see how we live and what we do every day.”
