Statesville, N.C. (September 25, 2012) – Landon Cassill, driver of the No. 83 Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota, has some unfinished business at Dover International Speedway. After a promising start in June’s event at the one-mile, concrete oval, Cassill was involved in a wreck on Lap 9 and unable to return to competition. He settled for a 38th-place finish. He’s looking to redeem his effort in this week’s AAA 400.
Cassill has four Cup Series starts at Dover to his credit. In May 2011, he scored his best finish, 30th place. Cassill has made four Nationwide Series starts and has never finished outside the top-25. He earned his best finish of 18th place in 2007. He has one Truck Series start at Dover (2008), which he started 24th and finished 24th.
Cassill’s crew chief Doug Richert has served at Dover 29 times during his career. He has accrued 10 top-10s, four top-fives and one win (2005).
Comments from BK Racing Driver Landon Cassill heading into Dover:
“We aren’t contending for the championship, but our goals are still the same as everyone else’s. We want to get the best finishes we can in these last few races and try to move our way up in the points. There are a couple of teams in front of us that are reachable and I think we can beat them. Finishing this season in the top 30 of the owner standings would be pretty cool and that’s our goal right now. We’re trying to do all we can in the last 10 races to make that happen.
“Last time I was at Dover, I had a really good car. We practiced and qualified well. Unfortunately we got caught up in accident early on in the race. That’s part of racing and it happens. We’re ready to get after it and make up for it. We want to show that we can run well there. I’ve done it in the past and I know we can this week.
“Dover is one of the most fun tracks we go to. It’s definitely unlike any other place on the circuit. It’s fast. Man, it’s fast. All of the speed and g-forces make it one of the more physically demanding tracks we go to. I work out and do cross fit training, so I think that helps getting ready for a track like Dover. You feel like you’ve been in a fight when you leave there, so the better prepared you are physically, the easier the 400 miles will be.”
