JAMIE MCMURRAY AND THE NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS/ARCTIC CAT TEAM
Charlotte Recap: From the drop of the green flag, the McDonald’s Chevrolet showed potential as McMurray quickly picked up positions. The McDonald’s crew had good pit stops and worked hard to make adjustments under mostly green-flag conditions. After battling to maintain lead-lap position just past halfway in the race, the No. 1 would go one lap down, eventually missing the ‘lucky dog’ by just one spot on the final caution of the night. Crew chief “Bono” Manion would gamble on fuel strategy after the final pit stop to pick up some track-position. The gamble paid off as McMurray was able to pick-up several spots in the closing laps en route to a 17th-place finish.
McMurray at Kansas: McMurray has made 11 starts at Kansas Speedway. In those 11 starts, the driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet has accumulated two top ten’s and four top 15’s. McMurray has completed 2,740 out of a possible 2,885 laps (95%) with a total of 26 laps led. He has an average start and finish position of 20.8 and 20.3, respectively. His best start at the 1.5-mile oval was fourth in 2004.
Pass and Go: During his last visit to Kansas Speedway in April, McMurray made 116 green flag passes.
Intermediate Stats: At intermediate tracks (tracks greater than one mile, but less than two miles), McMurray has 174 starts, collecting two victories (Charlotte: 2002, 2010), 20 top-five finishes, 47 top-10 finishes and leading 841 laps.
Drop a line in: McMurray will sign autographs and meet fans at the Independence, MO. Bass Pro Shops store location this Thursday Oct. 18 at 6pm (CT). The store is located at 18001 Bass Pro Drive Independence, Mo. (816-795-4300).
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA AND No. 42 TARGET TEAM
Charlotte Recap: Race day got off to a rough start as the team opted to switch out motors before the start of the Bank of America 500. Juan Pablo Montoya dropped to the rear of the field before the race got underway and set his sights on the front of the field. Handling issues became apparent in the opening laps and a couple of early caution flags allowed Montoya to come in for adjustments. The No. 42 ran mid-pack for the majority of the 334-lap event. As the race continued, teams started to talk about fuel mileage due to long green flag runs. The Target team took their final stop of the night on lap 280 and saved just enough fuel to cross the finish line in 19th.
Montoya at Kansas: Montoya looks to make his eighth start this weekend at Kansas Speedway. In his previous seven starts he has led 15 laps and earned one top-five and one top-10. Montoya has completed 1,812 out of a possible 1,817 (99.7%). Montoya’s best start was second in 2011; and he earned his best finish of fourth in 2009. The driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet has an average starting position of 22.7 and an average finishing position of 19.0 at the 1.5-mile oval.
Pass ‘Em All: During the last race at Kansas Speedway in April, Montoya completed 117 green flag passes.
Intermediate Stats: In his NSCS career at intermediate tracks, Montoya has 100 starts, earning nine top-five’s, 17 top-10’s and leading 336 laps.
